Thank you for your reaction to "INI".
Recently, Japanese music has become known overseas.
However, Japan has long been a closed (isolated) country where most music is consumed domestically and there is no need to export music content to overseas markets.
In addition, there has been a long-standing practice in Japan of not being able to make a debut unless you belong to a large entertainment agency, or if you are fired from such a large agency, you will never see the light of day again.
    Especially boy groups like them,
Because one big entertainment agency monopolized the Japanese market, you could not debut unless you belonged to that agency.
Even if they were able to debut with another entertainment agency, the pressure of the big agencies deprived them of the chance to be known by the public.
They, too, dreamed of debuting in Japan,
(Because to get into a big entertainment agency, they had to start at an early age).
For those who developed their talents after reaching adolescence, debuting in Japan was a dream come true, and the only way to make a living was to become a back-up dancer for a famous artist, a choreographer, or a trainer at a dance school.
There were almost no auditions for singers (especially male singers) to make their debut in Japan at that time, and only a very few of them could join an entertainment agency.
In such a situation, the last place they entrusted their dreams to was the audition program "Produce101 JAPAN"
This "Produce101 JAPAN" is one of the largest auditions in Japan held by LAPONE entertainment, a new entertainment agency jointly established by CJ, a Korean entertainment agency, and Yoshimoto Kogyo, a major entertainment agency with many comedians in Japan.
(This is a Japanese version of a Korean audition program distributed by CJ.)
In this system, 11 successful candidates are selected by viewers' votes from 101 people who have passed the document screening. After several months of singing and dancing lessons, "diamonds in the rough" are found from among the participants who are almost amateurs and are given their debut.
If they pass the audition, they will be promised the opportunity to not only perform in Japan, but also to write songs and produce music videos in Korea, and to perform at KCON, which is held by CJ in various countries around the world.
The eleven members of INI passed the audition.
They were selected for "Produce101 JAPAN SEASON 2" and made their debut.
Incidentally, INI's older brother group "JO1" debuted in "SEASON 1".
Among the members of INI, there is one who was a back-up dancer for Taemin of the popular Korean group SHINee, and another who was involved in the choreography of the famous Japanese idol King & Prince.
Some were former idols, but the rest of the members were unknown amateurs, beginners in both dancing and singing.
After their debut in 2021, they were deprived of opportunities to appear on TV due to pressure from the major entertainment agencies mentioned above, but a turning point came.
In March 2023, a BBC report about the sexual assault of several hundred boys by the founder of a major entertainment agency made headlines in Japan, and the agency was dismantled,
As a result, the agency was dismantled, and since then "INI" has finally been able to appear on Japanese music programs.
Until then, if a boy group belonging to this major entertainment agency appeared on a TV singing program, "INI" was not allowed to appear on the same program.
(Since most of the music programs aired in Japan had regular appearances by boy groups from major entertainment companies, some of them were never invited to the programs.)
Thus, for a long period of time, they were not well known in Japan, let alone overseas. (It is a funny thing for a Japanese group.)
Now, they are growing day by day and finally have the opportunity to be known to people all over the world.
Please forgive me for introducing them in poor English.
