In Mario Kart 8, the blooper reduces your traction. So in the blooper’s defense, I hate getting inked online.
I wish people actually saw potential in Everybody 1-2-Switch, because then we could've gotten a top down view on our phones. But NOPE, here we are, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, without a 2nd screen for the Nintendo Switch!
@@stefanspelt3578 Bro that would be a programming nightmare, either the devices compatible with it would be very limited or the whole thing would now run like shit to avoid desync
@@Marshall.R We have 5G, it doesn't require an accelerometer, it just uses the SCREEN OF YOUR PHONE, just to let you know who got what from an item box! If they can stream a different display on a funny screen controller via Bluetooth and do the same thing quite well though a smartphone, but via WiFi/5G instead, then it wouldn't be such a problem to do the same thing for updating Mario kart 8 Deluxe! Let alone if it was done with some help from a phone app company! Imagine the possibilities, for Hylia sake!
@@stefanspelt3578Buddy 5G is a connection for your cell tower to your phone. The switch has no such data capabilities. Using wifi would probably introduce a few problems. The switch itself likely isn’t designed to handle multiple wifi connections at once, not to mention not all phones can either. The nightmare that would ensue trying to make a streamlined experience with the hundreds of thousands of types of android phones? Yikes.

Man the Heart got screwed lmao it's wayyyy better than what you remembered, literally makes you invincible for INFINITE time until you get hit by *2* items, which you *both* steal

I still think it doesn't make the cut for S. I mean sure, it gives you more items, but if you don't have full control on when to use an item, made the golden mushroom B, then I can sleep well tonight knowing 7 is getting the same penalty for it.
@@mechacode8527To be fair most people get the star and immediately use it meanwhile mushrooms people are more likely to keep
I would watch Dom make the whole tier list by himself. Homie had the best thoughts on all of the items and nobody listened to him!
They hated Dom because he told the truth
No they listened to him a few times, they would have put the piranha lower just as an example.
They listened to him on the blooper part, and honestly I disagreed with him. On co-op where you’re screen’s smaller the ink really covers a lot of the screen
You can actually block something like the red and green shell with the bob-omb if you throw it back at the correct time and the blast ratios can hit the person behind of you
If you're still holding onto it, it won't hit you if it explodes while you're driving straight
Though this only applies to 8 as far as I've played
@@ArshadZahid_nohandleideas From what I've seen, it's kind of inconsistent whether it'll hurt me or not. Most times when I block a red shell with a bob-omb like that, I don't get hurt, but there were a fair few times where I still took damage from it. Not sure why it happens
@@gbx4858 could be the environment, could be you weren't fast enough, I'm not sure
@@gbx4858it depends on your speed. It might hit you if you have a slow kart build or are low on coins
I haven't seen anyone else mention that Eric is just straight up wrong on the Mega Mushroom not increasing your speed. It's arguably more helpful for some shortcuts than the mushrooms, such as when there are obstacles like pipes. Not to mention it is also a dodge item for the shock, in which there's only that, the star, and the bullet bill.
you can still get hit by bullet bill even if you have mega mushroom
The Feather can automatically steal coins, balloons, and the shine in MK8DX which gives it quite a high reward for being used well. In SMK, it can be absolutely broken depending on the track if you know what to do with it. Underrated as hell.
I can't believe the utter DISRESPECT shown to the Giant Banana. That thing is a defensive wall that helped me keep so many first place finishes.
Is it standard to have Eric explain things using Cars 2 as a basis
1:25:51
“I dunno if that’s comparable…”
“*YES IT IS!!*”
i love this moment way too much
I find it funny how it actually makes sense that Lucky 7 is better than Crazy 8
I agree with Dom, the Thunder Cloud is an interesting item but it needs a rework. It needs to be like, while you have it you're driving at Mushrom boost-level speed, and possibly it Lightnings you after five seconds and if you bop someone they can't bop it back for a full second (so you can mentally time out when to bop someone so that they can't re-bop you). Also, Thunder Cloud should be an option for first place to nerf them (it's harder to find someone to bop it off to in first place so you'll get a short boost and then lighting'd so other people can catch up). I like the idea of an item that has a big risk but an equally big reward and right now it doesn't have that. The Blooper does stone-cold nothing, there's so many ways to remove it early, it's barely useful in single player because it just makes all the AI racers slightly slower and more wobbly, and most people playing Mario Kart know the track well enough that they can drive by feel. Blooper should be at the bottom and Thunder Cloud should be above it, even if only because Thunder Cloud inspires anger (a strong emotion) and the Blooper inspires apathy (literally nothing). The Thunder Cloud at least gives you those funny "what the hell, man!" moments.
My biggest problem with Blooper is that the only people that it really works against are players that are already stuggling. Idk, I feel like part of the point of items in Mario Kart is to lessen the skill gap some, so Blooper actively widening it just feels bad.
@@TheWrathAboveI’m so glad they added custom items because I always turn off only the blooper
Boomerang is such an underrated item, tearing through trailed items and triples is so powerful. Can also defend from reds and potentially take someone out from behind in one throw. Chainable too if you throw it before grabbing a double, one of my favorite pulls in 8 for sure
53:00 on its third throw, the boomerang flies way farther into the distance which can be used for extra offensive capabilities. It also has an interesting quirk where because it physically disappears from your item slot while the boomerang is out, it can be a lot easier to hold on to and save for all three throws even if there is a boo or lightning bolt in play.
I feel the Tanooki Leaf would be a great battle mode exclusive item, working within a confined area, and utilizing it's unique gimmick of spinning the tail to hurt the racer leads to the likes of less coins in coin runners, loss of the shine sprite, one less balloon, and so on. Feels better suited there than normal racing as the constant speed sort of leaves it's function left behind.
Scott: pants and sweater
Eric: shirt and shorts
Dominic: shirt and pants
Sam: shorts and sweater
Why do I pay attention to these things?? Is it cold or hot?
It's Ohio, so both
@@mishell128it's none of them
the weather is yes
There's no weather in Ohio. If there is you're in for a treat. Same with Texas except Texas's only weather 80% of the time is called constant 95 degree weather minimum.
Ironically, the Lucky 7 can actually be more strategic because it doesn't automatically activate (it's in your item slot rather than immediately orbiting around you), whereas in MK8 (unless you're playing MK8DX and have it in your second slot), you might indeed have very little time to react to its presence and use it optimally.
That aside though, it's pretty unfair to say that spamming the whole thing is the only way to reasonably use the 7 or 8. If you're worried about risk, immediately use the star, then the bob-omb, now you still have four whole items (no one cares about a blooper or coin) to work with for defense, offense, or taking another shortcut in the case of the mushroom. If there's no immediate risk though, then you really do have a swiss army knife of items to cause chaos and get yourself somewhere. Conceptually, yeah it's lame and lazy. But it can be damn powerful when used well.
One other interesting aspect about the Blue Shell that makes it even more polarizing depending on the game is the potential of drop outs: In games with item spy and/or detailed minimaps, players can notice a Blue Shell well before it arrives and one if not multiple players can drop out of first to avoid being targeted, already greatly increasing the item's effect on the spread of racers. In extreme cases, the entire front of the pack can come to a halt until someone with an item that counters the Blue Shell is in first, or the Blue Shell holder themselves has reached first (I know it sounds ridiculous, but I myself saw that situation plenty in my MK7 days). Drop outs can also happen to a lesser extent in games with split screen multiplayer or in competitive environments with team formats.
Basically, I'd still usually not want it in a game like MKWii, but in other games it can be a truly devastating force. On average, I'd consider it worthy of low A tier for how iconic and important it is to the series, as well as its fair utility on average.
This may just be me but I swear it only targets the player who was in first when it was thrown, regardless of where they are when it gets to them. Or at least it used to feel that way.
@@captaincomet9963 In all the games I've played, the Blue Shell only chooses a target when it's quite close to the front, which makes sense because if the player the Blue Shell chose when thrown already got hit out of first by the time the shell arrives, hitting them wouldn't make any sense anymore. If anything, that could cause the opposite of the intended effect so it's important to make sure the shell always hits the correct target.
22:57
Fun Fact About The Blooper: In MK8DX, the blooper actually does give a slick effect that makes your drifting way more imprecise to whoever gets inked by it
+1ing this
"way more" imprecise is a stretch. Plus, most of the players are gonna be in straightaways or about to finish a drift anyway. And even if someone's about to enter a tight turn, they can just adjust for the slipperiness and drift more into the turn.
It's slightly inconvenient, that's about it.
Would definitely put it above feather though. Unless you were really skillful, you wouldn't be able to dodge a red shell with the feather if it were in modern races. Because that feels like it would be harder to time than dodging a blue shell with a mushroom to me.
I never thought I would see such a heated debate about the lucky 7 in my life. Thank you Scott and friends for filling this void in my life
The Bullet Bill and Lightning Bolt are basically the only items that can really only benefit from using, immediately giving you a chance at victory, or at the very least place in a respectable 2nd or 3rd place. You'd basically have to try to fail while using them.
This is gonna be the best Scott's Stash video ever, I can already sense it.

They’ve already got the setup
What about Dom 😅
Is that not what this is
I love these videos cause it’s like a simulation of having friends
and just like with friends no listens to your imput
Something else about the blooper: i think this is mainly in DS and maybe Wii, but when you’re playing Grand Prix or VS with CPUs, the blooper slows down the CPUs for some reason. So there’s a small benefit for it. Still one of the worst tho
Edit: Scott did mention the CPU thing, so forget I added this
Yoshi Egg is unironically S-tier. It’s common even in 1st place and it breaks on its own with a fair chance of dropping a star. In 1st place. It’s insane.
There's just one problem with the item: it can help your opponents. This is because of how the items are released, and the fact that Mushrooms and Stars are probably the most likely items to appear in a Yoshi Egg. AND THEY LAND RIGHT BY THE PERSON YOU HIT.
Mario Kart 8's been out for 9 years and they still haven't realized that the Blooper halves your traction when you get inked.
I love the smiley face on Eric's arm

In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the Blooper actually makes players’ tires slick, causing them to take wider turns.
You can actually control the Bullet Bill to a certain degree in Mario Kart 8. It can't go off-road but you can move it left or right. I just learned this recently, not sure if it works in previous games though.
You can slightly control it in MKWii but not in MK7, not sure about DS. However, you can sometimes get some off road cuts out if it if you hop into it right before using the Bullet Bill. For example, N64 Kalimari Desert and SNES Mario Circuit 2 in MK7 have some funny but powerful Bullet Bill routes through a lot of off-road.
It’s hilarious the Boo item was invisible most of the time in the bottom left icon.

Bob-omb is also amazing, you throw it infront of you, you hit someone and they're out for ages, not hitting it is just a skill issue :3
Agreed. It's so fun getting one in 1st and screwing over the second placeman
Gotta say, I agree with the 7/8 debate. That vulnerability with the items all just out there requires you to use the item for the star immediately, especially since you’re at the tail end of the middle of the pack, where you still have risk of bumping into people while most likely dealing with the consequences of the other, stronger items in the back. There are moments where you might need to time the star just to get an advantage, and you just can’t do that with the lucky seven. Plus, you’re stuck with 7 or 8 items that take up a slot just to take up a slot, when you could rather get two items you know you can use. I do agree though, star being solely top tier kinda messed with the placement of the 7/8.

When The Seven Comes Along,
It Gives Ya Seven Items
Bob-bomb is a great defense. You can block shells with it and potentially wipe out whoever threw it at you at the same time
I am sorry but the big banana is an amazing item, it's massive, it can't be destroyed by shells, it splits into three more bananas when you hit somebody and you can constantly get it even in first, it's 10/10 :D
Here's my two cents on the whole Blooper vs Lightning Cloud situation:
When it comes to the Lightning Cloud, I've found it to be incredibly useful. That speed boost is no joke. You can take shortcuts for days with the Lightning Cloud since while it's on you, you can't be slowed down by offroading, at least according to the times I've gotten the item. It's also an item that rewards skillful play, allowing you to get ahead really quickly as well as screw somebody over, most likely the person in first place. It's a risk-reward item, in that if put into the right hands it is an incredible benefit, while in the wrong hands it is an active detriment. Personally, I'd slide it into B Tier.
The Blooper, on the other hand, is completely useless. It is an item that you never want. It doesn't screw anybody over, it's just a mild inconvenience for everyone, including the person using it since they'd rather get a different item. Sure, you might get shocked when you get the cloud, but in my experience it's simply a skill issue if it causes real problems for you. With the Blooper, it is such a nothing item that I would rather get the Coin because at least that can add to the Coin meter and give you slightly better speed.
I wouldn't mind the coins as an Item if the limit was higher than ten, because if you already have ten coins then getting one in an item box is the equivalent of just not hitting the box in the first place. So they either need to increase the cap, or make it like Crash Team Racing where having ten coins makes your items a bit better.
I was born to watch Scott, Sam, Eric, and Dom rank the mario kart items
I like that most of the arguments were split down the couch
“What is Tow Mater into? Women?”
As a fervent Mario Kart enthusiast, it is profoundly vexing and utterly confounding to witness Scott's blasphemous decision to place the star item above the revered lucky 7 in his Mario Kart items tier list. Let me elucidate, with the utmost vehemence, why Scott's placement is not only erroneous but also indicative of a gross misunderstanding of the game mechanics and strategic nuances that underpin Mario Kart.
First and foremost, the lucky 7 is not just another run-of-the-mill item; it is the epitome of Mario Kart excellence, a veritable symbol of luck and skill intertwined in perfect harmony. By granting the lucky recipient seven unique items, ranging from bananas to bombs, the lucky 7 bestows upon its wielder an unparalleled advantage, capable of turning the tide of any race in an instant.
Contrary to Scott's misguided assertion that the lucky 7 "has too many variables," it is precisely these variables that make it a quintessential element of Mario Kart gameplay. The dynamic nature of the lucky 7 forces players to adapt and strategize on the fly, deftly navigating through a myriad of potential outcomes with finesse and precision. To dismiss such complexity as a hindrance is to fundamentally misunderstand the essence of Mario Kart and its inherent appeal.
Moreover, the lucky 7 represents a rare and coveted opportunity for players to seize control of their destiny in the chaotic realm of Mario Kart. It is a testament to the game's ethos of unpredictability and excitement, offering both seasoned veterans and novice racers alike a chance to experience the exhilarating rush of wielding unmatched power on the track.
In stark contrast, the star item, while undoubtedly potent in its own right, pales in comparison to the multifaceted brilliance of the lucky 7. Yes, the star may grant temporary invincibility and heightened speed, but its effects are transient, fleeting in nature compared to the enduring impact of the lucky 7's arsenal of goodies.
Furthermore, Scott's decision to prioritize the star over the lucky 7 betrays a lamentable lack of appreciation for the strategic depth that defines Mario Kart gameplay. While the star may offer a brief respite from danger, it fails to provide the same level of strategic versatility and long-term impact as its septuple-powered counterpart.
It is not merely a matter of personal preference or subjective opinion; Scott's misguided placement of the star above the lucky 7 is an affront to the very spirit of Mario Kart itself. It is a slap in the face to all those who have honed their skills and mastered the art of item management, reducing their hard-earned expertise to naught in the blink of an eye.
To suggest, even for a moment, that the lucky 7 is anything less than deserving of the highest accolades in the pantheon of Mario Kart items is nothing short of heresy. It is a betrayal of everything that Mario Kart stands for: camaraderie, competition, and the relentless pursuit of victory against all odds.
In conclusion, Scott's decision to place the star above the lucky 7 in his Mario Kart items tier list is not just misguided; it is an egregious insult to the integrity of the game and all those who hold it dear. The lucky 7 embodies the very essence of Mario Kart, encapsulating the thrill of the race and the boundless possibilities that lie around every hairpin turn. To denigrate such a beloved icon in favor of fleeting invincibility is an act of folly that cannot be countenanced. Scott, if you're reading this, reconsider your stance, for the honor of Mario Kart and all those who cherish it hangs in the balance.
Must be really good if the premiere is scheduled over 3 days in advance
See CTGP does the thundercloud way better. You get a massive speed boost plus you become mega mushroom status the time you’re holding the cloud. Making it easier to hit people while also risking getting up front and near first but the risk of then getting turned small.
Also we learned that in 8 green shells have tracking programming that after they bounce off a wall they angle towards the nearing players. It is risky because they will track even the user. But they are definitely more deadly in my friend groups mind.
@@TPLS2wait so I’m not crazy assuming that green shells track in 8? Because the amount of times I’ve thrown a green shell at a wall and have just watched it come back at me even if that makes no sense from the angle of the wall is insane
I like how Eric is wearing a cast (brace?) on his elbow, but since it's black it can't be written on, so they just decided to draw a smiley face on his arm.
Top-tier meme starts at 1:26:30
The POW is slightly underrated, you cannot turn when you dodge it and you don’t know how many times dodging it causes you to drive of the edge of the map because of a sharp turn coming up. You either gotta get hit, fall off the map or hit a wall sometimes.
It also takes away your items which they didn’t discuss for lightning either. It’s not good it’s still mega ass but it’s not extreme mega ass.
Also they don’t seem to notice the blooper does exactly what they wanted it to do in MK8 where it does turn your steering into ice physics or at least really close.
Also the Piranha Plant can eat the blooper which I think doesn’t make the plant better but actually makes the blooper worse in 8. Should just be removed from the game at this point.
Also the Boomerang deserves to be higher up, it can hit anyone regardless of their shells and bananas behind them, sometimes you can destroy all 3 rotating shells or bananas with 1 boomerang throw. Plus you can launch it really far on the last throw which while kinda luck based can take out 2 or 3 people in front of you.
I might be crazy here but I swear in DS the boo let you drive through the dirt without any slowdown while in MK8D you can’t do that anymore. If you can do that in DS it deserves a slightly higher spot especially since in DS you can see everyone’s items on the bottom screen and wait for the item you want if someone is saving like a star or something.

Edit: figured I'd go ahead and share a few other details they missed, in no particular order:
Boo: actually allowed you to go off-road in Mario Kart DS without slowing you down at all
Mega Mushroom: lasts as long as the star and has the same speed boost as a star. Only weaknesses is that you're not invincible against stars, bullets, and can be stopped by trucks on Moonview Highway.
Feather: does give you a trick boost in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
Thunder Cloud: should have had its own tier below D
Lightning: lets you flatten other players in Mario Kart 7 and 8 if you drive over them.
Bullet Bill: will last less time if you pass a certain number of racers - but can also go after the person in first if used in the right places
It can be a little threatening in certain situations on 200cc, but otherwise yeah.
Dom after debating his way into getting the thunder could in S tier after not even knowing its effects
Next up we have a bit of an odd one
Next up is a bit of a funky one
Next one is kind of an oddball
Please do more of these. Top tier debate
shoutout to all the Crash Team Racing fans giggling at 45:05
This was a really good analysis of Gex ngl
The best item is the friends we made along the way
The worst item is the friends we lost along the way too
Can’t wait for them to rank the best item in the Mario Kart series, Off-Key Speaker.
Mario kart,in the middle of our Wii
Mario kart,in the middle of our- 🎶🎶🎶
I'm not about to say Bob-omb is good, but for what it's worth, you CAN get it in first, and it CAN be used defensively, but you have to be going fast enough to outrun your own explosion.
Star is great in every game except 8, where its speed boost was DRASTICALLY decreased. It's a massive bummer item in 8 imo, but in any other game I love it.
Fake item box is not great, I agree, but it's actually an offensive item to hit people behind you by placing it in commone racing lines like the insides of turns. Either people hit it, or they take a slower racing line. I don't miss it though.
Gold mushroom is top tier. It's bad if you can't drive I guess, but honestly the speed boost is fantastic and you actually don't lose that much control if any at all. If you get it towards the middle of the pack, it's actually a game changer. It's also just fun.
Boo could potentially steal a super horn, jus' sayin'.
Golden mushroom kinda sucks as well tho, they didn’t discuss it here but if someone gets a lightning in MK8D and you have a golden mush first slot and a star or bill second slot you just have to lose both. Not sure how common that is but it’s happened to me a lot and it sucks.
Star kinda sucks in 8 but it gets a major buff in 8D because if you get it in the first slot and use it you can use the item in the second slot (which is usually mushrooms of some kind).
But whether you call that an advantage to the star or not is up to you really but I’d say it counts as a star advantage, if being stuck with the golden mushroom in the first slot counts as a disadvantage for that item then I’d say the immediate second item use after the star is an advantage of the star.
Also yeah Bomb should be higher it can be dropped early to avoid any damage no matter what speed you are going so it’s a 100% defensive move if you use it right and as you said it’s op in first especially if you get 2 sometimes that’s just hilarious.
1:06:27 when is 1 ever better?
Do you want 1 cancer or 3? Probably 1 but ideally less
This was just a scott the woz podcast and im all for it
The wozcast
At first I was with Dominick because I thought he was taking a 'racing skill > items'-stance with the mushrooms because triple mushrooms are S-class if you know (even slight) fuck about race lines, especially in the earlier games where drift to boost wasn't an option it gives you a literal and tactful advantage (sometimes to even cut through the rough), but then he's out here trying to defend the walking bomb and idek anymore.
Eric and Sam are awesome. I love seeing those fellas in videos
super cool video scott but kinda strange you ranked the blue shell 1st solely because of the “devastating potential on civilian life”
Honestly have a real hard time remembering the layout of the Mario Kart Tour tracks, especially considering they change each lap, so the blooper does mess me up a good bit when going through those. Not sure if that would persuade me to move it up on a tier list though
They talked about Tow Mater more than the Gold Mushroom
I once was the victim of a Blue Shell in 4th place. Quadruple kill shot. Well done to my friend in 10th place
The guy in the blue shirt has a cool Virtual Boy hat
I want the video of you guys deciding the order of the items for this discussion.😂
The disrespect for the blue shell. You don't have to use it instantly, you can work your way up a bit and time it more strategically.
This was fun as hell, but y’all list crazy 😂
i love all these guys and this is entirely based on subjective opinion and the jokey, arbitrary nature of this video but im so glad dom is a voice of the people. hes the only one i wholeheartedly agree with. the blooper sucks. it brings nothing to the game. and yet its an item that has lasted this long. thunder cloud sucks, but its something different to every other item. for its uniqueness alone its better than the blooper, that actively does nothing
Don't tell Eric about the Kamek meta
as somebody who played Mario Kart Wii religiously as a child the pow block gives me anxiety induced flashbacks to all the times it would hit me while over a gap (esp in rainbow road because I played in the warzone called online so much). Id give it a B out of respect and personal fear.
What ?! The Pow block was awesome. you could dodge it by jumping at the right time. and inversely you had to use it at a time you knew your friend would'nt dodge it. so it wasn't just bulls like the thunder, there was a element of skills and timing.
Fun fact, the Blooper actually does lower traction
i love the scott the wozcast
this looked so fun
the reason why i loved this so much is because it's something i would love to have: an intellectual debate over the fucking items in mario kart
Fun fact: The blooper actually slows down any AI racers that it hits. I believe in Mario Kart 8, it'll also mess with the controls.
