Huge Thanks. Like many folks have experienced, the decision between the two is not easy. I heard about the Hakko advantage relative to heat time but seeing the construction was the largest influence to my purchase. Still not a no brainer, there are other things to consider that were not covered (cable length, ergonomics, durability, etc) but I got that info in other media - your video was the icing on the cake.
Great video.
The WE1010 is a huge step back from the classic industrial offerings from Weller. I got an old PU81 analog station with the WSP80 Iron and it heats up in mere seconds also while having no problems with bigger joints.
Hi Joe, what do you think about the ersa rds80? I'm looking for a new station and I'm so undecided between that and the hakko. Thanks
Thanks for the honest review. I'm on the fence between these two. I had seen complaints before about the Weller's not holding temperature but I wasn't sure if the Hakko held temp better or if the Wellers temp gage was just more accurate, after seeing the difference in tip designs I'm thinking the Hakko holds temp better. My only concerns with the Hakko now are the less than intuitive controls and 'playskool' color choice, lol.
The Hakko is a Better unit. The Weller looks more professional.. I like the Hakko better
Nice review. What about hakko tips vs weller tips? How durable are the finishes? I have a small weller and cannot find any tips for it. Bought some cheap chinese tips but tgey dont last. Was thinking to buy a hakko tip and frankenstein it on my weller but i think it best i buy smthn thats built well. With spare parts available.
Are 3rd party tips from Feita and KNOKOO any good?
Im struggling to find a do it all station. Where I can use a large tip and land 4+ awg wires but also intricate work with little resistors, transistors etc. tips are so difficult to find for some of the smaller units
Hakko, would be the better of the 2 for that job.
The hakko should be draped in SR-71 matt black with red L.E.D lightning bolts to match its high performance but instead they made it look like a toy
Hakko...why?
Do you have any suggestions for hot air units Joe I was thinking about getting something as an iron wont do the whole of a large component?
Are you referring to a SMD rework station or fine pitch part remover?
@@Joeteck Yes Joe SMD rework station something to heat an area all at once to remove parts.
@@Arachnoid_of_the_underverse Joe never replied : )

I bought a WES 51 just as the 1010 was launching for a steal - so sad for Ya All who didn't see the writing on the wall... These things have their place in life, but they don't do it all. Any one of them will do 90% of what I need to do; I overcame the rest 30 years ago.
I have Weller WT1 and its locked but I cant fine code list on the iternet could you please help me?
Most of the locking is press and hold a single button or a combination of 2
Better than a TS100 or a KSGER T12?
Completely different league..
You couldn't back fill the area around the tip with insulating fire proof foam? Or that heat tape I have a bunch.
Then that would be preventing heat transfer if it were insulated..
@@Joeteck ah that's just me trying to solve a problem to improve where it may lack I'm getting into Soldering because no one where I live does it and I have the drive to wanna learn.
I build PC's as a hobby and hate seeing parts being thrown away when they break or someone stresses them and something fails.
I'll have to sub you found what others have not with this iron.
Get the Hakko, much better unit
@@Joeteck I'll grab one I shoulda did the Weller vs hakko prior to buying lol loving the channel btw many useful tips
@@shadowarez1337 Thank you very much!
My 14 year old Weller finally died, think ill get a Hakko.
solder gold?
The big / huge disadvantage of the Hakko is the horrible user unfriendly non-intuitive digital menu. I used to own a Hakko, but every time I wanted to change a setting, I ended up searching for the manual. If they would have stuck to the analogue rotation knob, I would agree with you.
I set it once and use it. No reason to change it.
@@Joeteck I understand that. That is exactly why any time you would like to change something a single analogue knob is much easier.
@@roerdomp16e metcal doesn't have anything to adjust. This is professional grade.
I agree about the user interface - designed by an engineer not a usability designer. (I’m a software engineer, so I can pound on engineers.) I figured it out by printing out a larger copy of the user instructions and watched about 5-6 videos. So… User interface sucks. But excellent product otherwise.
The 3 people that disliked just got themselves a weller lol
Hakko heats better
Yes even in soldering, Made in Japan rule
Playdoo fanboi 😝
no its from people who understand a comparison between soldering stations without actually fucking soldering is fucking useless.
I bought into the hakko, luckily I came to my senses after ordering and comparing to my 20 dollar one. I’ll take my 20 one over hakko any day.
Don’t buy the hype from people that probably got free stuff.
My hakko fx888d reach only 499 degree, is it the tip or i have a different model?
Maybe yours is set to display temp in Celsius? In the video it's definitely showing Fahrenheit
Im confused.
I’m so sorry but you have the weller totally wrong!! The inner pin is the temperature sensor not the heater as the outer sleeve is the heater. As the sensor is in the very top you’ll see the temperature alter much quicker then the hakko as to the speed does it really matter it’s all down to the serviceable parts
No spare parts for the WE1010 Station! is the reply i receive from Weller.
From a company who sell tools for repair is inadmissible , let this old company gone like water of toilet .
What did you break?
@@Joeteck the case
@@chrisbarrow93 really? I don't know any company that does that. It's not a normal thing..You're complaining about a mistake you made and blaming the company for not having it. Not cool
@@Joeteck The store hakko sell it. Plus you can easily 3d print it... I agree with this guy that a company that sell product to REPAIR electronic should have spare parts available.
@@nicolaskeroack7860 or... take care of your stuff
0:44 oh god. if thats the kind of data thats gonna be used for determining how good these are then you should absolutely be ashamed. some numbers on a screen???
Who the hell has bought not a cartridge based system in 2021?
Everyone who can't afford a cartridge system in 2023
@@Joeteck Even if you ignore T15/T12-clones in 2021 and before, the ts-100 was already on the market. There was no reason to by deprecated and overpriced technology.
