Thank you for the video. I'm glad you're getting some hunting in. I saw a nice bear coming home from work today, and it made me wonder what you are up to. I'm glad I checked in. Good luck if you get back up there.

You have a great channel Bernie, you have taught me a lot about baiting bears. Second year in Idaho, got a lot of nighttime bears, but have just started to get some daytime visits. All my day bears have been 1-2 year olds. But it gets better everyday into June. Nock problems, been there done that. Out of nowhere? But it does happen. My time, the nock froze onto the string and when the arrow flew the nock was still on the string. Resulted in an arrow that hit a foot left, a gut shot deer, it was a bad deal all around. Lost that Iowa buck and have never forgotten. Now I'm constantly checking nock fit and string tension and its never happened since. Thanks for your channel! I really have learned a lot about bears and baiting. It is way harder than I ever thought. It's a lot like work actually! but I happen to enjoy the time on stand and the chess match with the bear...Thanks, stay healthy!

I use the same scope on my Raven 29x. It's made by ATN it's not a bad piece of equipment. Sort of bottom of the line but it gets a job done. I use it day or night. You could legally hog hunt at night and that's where that scope really shines with a IR light attached to it If I was able to send you a picture I'd show you how I have my rig set up

With all the twist and turns , this has been a very interesting hunt. Just makes for a better adventure and stories for the next campfire.
Looking forward to your next hunt.

Heartbreaker... hopefully, you can get back there and fill your tag before the end of the season... and you've stored up some good karma for Manitoba.

You’ve had a heck of a run of back luck with those arrows. That’s won’t make for a good review.
Slick looking crossbow. I’ve taken 3 bears with a crossbow. Can’t draw a compound bow anymore. Have an old military shoulder injury to thank for that.
Hope you can make it back and fill that tag.
Great video and as always Happy Hunting!

Always enjoy the videos Bernie. You put a lot of work into that hunt, and lots of miles on the truck. The weather and equipment failures are tough reasons not to fill your tag. Lots of opportunity there. Looking forward to the shot analysis video. Cheers. Got to go, my Tactacam is sending photos on my bear bait!

I have to put in a plug for WFO Bear Hunts or Dog Lake Outfitters in Thunder Bay. They really do a great job managing the population. I am DIY Hunting in their Bear Management Areas and I have two baits with a dozen bears on each one. Lots of shooters! I am so grateful for all your work. I would manage your baits for a fall hunt if you supply the bait.

That’s to bad about not getting a bear. At least it wasn’t from a lack of activity. Maybe it’s Time to switch to that crossbow. Looks like a great scope on it. I hope you get a chance to return and fill your tag. A bad day hunting beats any day working. 👍👍

Man what a total bummer. Not sure what to say other then the equipment let you down. I have to believe those nocks were the wrong size? First they fall out and then get shoved into the arrow when it doesn’t pull loose. Definitely lost some energy there and explains why the shot was low I think. Great video nonetheless Bernie.

Thats a terrible run of bad luck. Sorry for all the troubles.
In a vid could you explain more of rules and laws for diy on canada? Are you hunting queen land? Permits to do so? This looks very doable for a MN hunter that only draws a tag every 5-6 yrs. Thanks for all the videos. Most of what I know about bear hunting is from your videos.

Ontario is different than many provinces where you buy tags over the counter but you must hunt in a concession of an outfitter so the outfitter can just sign off on your permit and have at it. In this case we were staying in his cabins so he made out pretty darn well considering he didn't have to do any of the baiting or guiding or anything.

Well like the saying goes "that's why they call it hunting and not killing" Not sure I would be depending on those nocks again. Love the vids you sure had some nice bears. I really loved the Bald Eagle they are so gorgeous and the can took a great shots.
Sure hope you're able too get back up there.

Bernie, I drew a tag this year in northern MN, Ive been thinking about scent control and putting my hunting clothes in a bait bucket and let it marinade for a couple days to help cover my scent. My coworkers think I’m nuts and I’m turning myself into the bait instead of the bait itself. What do you think? What’s your thoughts?

    • @BowhuntingRoad
      @BowhuntingRoad  6 місяців тому

i don't think you can really cover your scent, they will still smell you if they can smell the scent of the clothing you are wearing. Better to reduce your odor with Scent Killer and then you don't have to smell yourself all during the hunt.

Have you ever had a bear stay on the bait or bluff charge to defend it when you get down after shooting hours and have to spook it? Or is that something you don't even worry about?

    • @BowhuntingRoad

Sorry, but once you abandoned your compound I moved on! Another reason I will never use lighted nocks. Install regular nocks and keep compounding. Not sure how your hunt ended, peer pressure I guess.
