You must have turned your husbands life upside down with your wonderful energy. You’re so full of life and always doing. I really like your videos. Keep it up.
Considering there’s different wood floors throughout the farmhouse, you’re better off with the darkest color. It will hide the fact there’s so many wood type, as well as new verses distressed. The dining room looks great!
So much going on! Farmhouse transformation is coming along nicely and the photo shoot staging is lovely. I would prefer the “washed umber” for the floor stain. It would help elevate the farmhouse “vibe” just a bit. Great to see Raymond and always nice to watch Malcolm work his magic. Kudos to all for your great work😊.
In my opinion, the more orange stain (brown earth?) is warmer and perhaps more traditional but the darker one (washed umber?) is more modern and perhaps blends better with the paint colour.
I remember watching you on Lady’s of London. You were the most authentic of the group. I remember you having conversations about the running of mapperton and how much pressure you put on yourself too help the Estate!!! Good Job Julie!!!
Your cottage is coming along nicely. It is amazing what a coat of paint does! You have a great crew painting, pointing, and their quality of labor is admirable. It is wonderful that these old buildings are being refurbished! Julie, you are a master at juggling all that you have going on!! Love from Pennsylvania 💕🌷🐻
The brown earth stain adds a warm glow to the floor boards. The stain gives the floors a feeling of richness, warmth and a patina that coincides with the age of the farmhouse.
Brown earth for the win! The rest of the house is looking stunning. Can’t wait to see it furnished. Isn’t Malcom just so irreplaceable! What a treasure. I love these refurbishing projects. Julie you are so natural in front of the camera which is so pleasant to watch.
I think the darker one is more consistent from the new boards to the older ones but if your looking for the variation the lighter one shows off the different wood
I'm definitely a Brown Earth fan. It's just dark enough to give the whole floor life and interest, without being so dark it shows the slightest amount of dirt (as the Burnt Umber would).
The first stain, Brown Earth, is very rich, vibrant, warm. Much better than the Burnt Umber which is too dark and dull. The last one is really lifeless. You have antique wood floors and want them to look alive, like real wood.
I love the Brown Earth color! It has warmth, and a range of tone to it that the darker just doesn't. I also think it goes better with the wall color you've chosen, for a nicer overall effect. Thanks for letting us have a voice in this!
A really interesting video today and varied. You have such an incredible team of super talented people working at Mapperton. The masons, various experienced estate workers etc have so much knowledge and expertise. Hopefully their skills and knowledge can be passed down through the generations. How glorious did the dining room look once dressed and rearranged. I could see by the rate the candles had burnt down how long and hard you were all working. ❤
I like the umber -- on the cool tone side which will be nice with the taupey walls. But would also like to see the third option. The farmhouse is coming along nicely--will be a comfortable and beautiful vacationlet!
I wouldn’t paint a 300 year old door red. May I suggest stripping off the centuries of paint, then using a light wash to highlight the remarkable door? See what Malcolm says.
When I heard Julie say red paint, I actually shuddered! I completely agree with you -- a light wash on that ancient door! No need to 'modernize' that treasure!
I would imagine the Tapestry has hung in the Diningroom since the Family moved to Mapperton, so it’s approximately 70 years and time to give the panels a good cleaning and change things around. As to the floors at the Cottage, I like the first choice, brown Earth. It’s is so warm and inviting. You will find furnishings that will complement each other. I’d like to stay there with those floors!
great to see the noble dinner table with Alberta's duck , candlelight and Cromwell's drinking flask - and then you back on you knees with postmodern DIY - time warps that make your jaw drop 🙂stunning enthusiasm 👍
From a designer perspective, the darker stain would be better. It’s a more neutral colour to tie in to all your furnishing choices. The lighter stain has too much mahogany red in it I feel.
Love the change in the dining room with the paintings hung. Those models of the ships are so cool. I noticed beautiful pewter ware in the China cabinet, I love that stuff.
Brown earth, but the darker one does go a little better with the paint color so that one makes sense too. I'm just a sucker for the traditional choice.
Julie!!!!🤣🤣🤣 Whoever made the thumbnail for this video is brilliant 🤣🤣🤣 it's hilarious and now my favorite of you. Hahahaha the best thumbnail this far.👍👍👍I'm happy that you guys have a sense a humor.
The darker stain adds a richness to the pale walls. The reddish stain might compete with any area rugs you might use, especially if there is any red in the rugs. Then again, I am partial to dark English oak floors and furniture! The paneled walls in the dining room are FABULOUS! I want to touch them! If walls could talk...!
the dining room looks fabulous with the historical nautical theme of the family! I think it fits better than the tapestries do in there. It looks smarter!
I have a very similar bud vase, which I inherited from my grandmother, and as I had no idea how to use it, it has just been tucked away in a cupboard. So thank you Malcolm, now I know what to do with it!
It's all looking so good! I loved seeing the pictures hung in the dining room and everything so beautifully set up for the photographs. Malcolm looked right at home pitching in with everything, he's like part of the family!
I like the first stain best unless dark spots or planks or whatever would show through in which case I’d like the second stain. The dining room is magnificent!👏🏻👏🏻⛄️
I like the grey one as I think it will not be as dominating as the other two and will blend in well with the other colours chosen for other aspects of the interior
I think the darker one will hide the fact you are using so many different type of floorboards and make it appear more cohesive. I also think it will contrast better with the light walls and natural light coming in from the windows.
Hi Julie- the last test you tried is the best one- darker colors don't show the dirt too much, lighter colors will. :D You might want to look at Osmos stains- they protect the floor better and make them scruffs resistant. :D
Hi Julie, I think perhaps what you need to do is combine those two stains on the lighter pieces of wood, and use the browner color only on the old darker wood. I think cover everything with the lighter brown stain first, then put a very light coat of the darker one on the new wood to even out the darkness between the old and new pieces. You should only use the brownish one on the newer wood first so it soaks in well. If you did the darker one first, it would soak in too much and you wouldn’t be able to get the brown nuance. (Hope what I suggested makes sense when you read this 🤭)
Julie, the first color, brown earth for sure. The second color makes the floor dead, with no life. Brown earth will bring all the floor to life even with the different tones from the different types of wood. You want the house to look like a fun, happy place. I had a floor that was stained really dark brown and I hated it. No warmth at all. Had to sand the floor and then was stained with a color very close to the first color. You will love it
Going with the other brown earth votes! It has a really rich, inviting color that would accent really well with whatever pops of color and furniture you put in the room. Very homey for your farmhouse cottage.
Go with Brown Earth-it’s a much warmer and inviting color and will give the rooms a homey feel.
You must have turned your husbands life upside down with your wonderful energy. You’re so full of life and always doing. I really like your videos. Keep it up.
Thank you so much!
I love the darkest color so beautiful and classic ❤
I think the brown is the best because in that dim sunlight it still has a warmth to it.
It all looks so great! Definitely think Brown Earth is such a beautiful color for the floor. Keep up the great work everyone!
Brown earth because you can see the grain of the wood 👍🏻
Gloves my dear… love the dark 👏🏻🩷
The darker stain is a big pop, and I think you're right to go with it! 😊❤
Considering there’s different wood floors throughout the farmhouse, you’re better off with the darkest color. It will hide the fact there’s so many wood type, as well as new verses distressed. The dining room looks great!

Agree! Umber is always a great colour!
Julie you are just amazing ! The energy you have is something to behold. I wished I had it❤
Wow, thank you!
Brown earth….yep! 💕🌷🐻
Brown earth seems like a warmer shade.
I have been painting using that stroke for 50 years, and it drives me nuts wh I see so many people just going up and down. Thank you John.
The dining room looks so much better. Nice job.
Very much liked the darker stain, the second one. So much more elegant with the paint colour
I remember watching you on Lady’s of London. You were the most authentic of the group. I remember you having conversations about the running of mapperton and how much pressure you put on yourself too help the Estate!!! Good Job Julie!!!

Love the new placement for the pictures in the dining room!
Love the new portraits in the dining room.
The brown earth stain adds a warm glow to the floor boards. The stain gives the floors a feeling of richness, warmth and a patina that coincides with the age of the farmhouse.
I like the first stain. It really highlights the wood grain.
In my opinion, the darker floor stain is more neutral than the lighter/browner one. For that reason, I think the darker one would be my choice. ~Bethe

I like the paintings in the dining room instead of the tapestries.
I think the darker one is more consistent from the new boards to the older ones but if your looking for the variation the lighter one shows off the different wood
Thanks for mentioning all the innocent animals & people in our fires! Very sensitive of you.
I can practically smell the paint through the screen. Renovations are coming along nicely.
I'm definitely a Brown Earth fan. It's just dark enough to give the whole floor life and interest, without being so dark it shows the slightest amount of dirt (as the Burnt Umber would).

Malcolm is a treasure. Julie seems like a joy to work with. A coffee table book is a brilliant idea.
The darker colour on the wooden floorboards for sure! The food looked lovely!
I like the first stain.
So lovely to see all the fabulous craftsmen. Brown earth is warmer for bedrooms.
Malcolm’s shoes are fabulous!
I like the color of the pompom on your hat!
I love the changes you made in the dining room and the table settings were beautiful and fancy! Brown Earth for me.

Agree. 300 year old door is so interesting and unique. A light wash would high light it.
The darker stain is the best!
Umber blens the two types of wood together very well.❤
Oh! Your videos make me so calm and focused on my own stuff. It's because you are doing such real things!
I like brown earth (the first one) as the other is very dark.
It's so hard to be sure of colors through the screen, but I link the Washed Umber. It looks black brown on my monitor. I like it with the walls.
Same!!
Brown Earth is best!

I LOVE the farmhouse wall/ceiling color.
From a designer perspective, the darker stain would be better. It’s a more neutral colour to tie in to all your furnishing choices. The lighter stain has too much mahogany red in it I feel.
Agree as also feel the lighter stain IMHO has a red undertone.
Brown earth is my choice as it brings out the natural beauty of the wood. The darker stain seems to cover all that beauty up 😜 Wonderful video! ❤️👍
The brown stain is prettier, but the umber will blend the different kinds of wood together more..
Love the change in the dining room with the paintings hung. Those models of the ships are so cool. I noticed beautiful pewter ware in the China cabinet, I love that stuff.
The first Duke would be proud!!!
I like Washed Umber has a tone that will bring out the wall colour.
Umber gets my vote.
Brown earth, but the darker one does go a little better with the paint color so that one makes sense too. I'm just a sucker for the traditional choice.
Washed umber Unites the old wood and the new wood with the beautiful finish
Julie, you inspire me to do so much! It's wonderful at how much you're involved in!
Brown earth yep yep yep❤
Julie!!!!🤣🤣🤣 Whoever made the thumbnail for this video is brilliant 🤣🤣🤣 it's hilarious and now my favorite of you. Hahahaha the best thumbnail this far.👍👍👍I'm happy that you guys have a sense a humor.

Don't overdo it, Julie. Hope you are taking your vitamin D and C! Stay rested.
the dining room looks fabulous with the historical nautical theme of the family! I think it fits better than the tapestries do in there. It looks smarter!
The darker one! For sure!
I have a very similar bud vase, which I inherited from my grandmother, and as I had no idea how to use it, it has just been tucked away in a cupboard. So thank you Malcolm, now I know what to do with it!
I love your jacket.
The pinkish sweater set is awesome and looks so warm
I would go with the first rich earthy colour stain. It has a lovely richness to it 😊
The 2nd one is
Looking great in
My opinion 😊
It's all looking so good! I loved seeing the pictures hung in the dining room and everything so beautifully set up for the photographs. Malcolm looked right at home pitching in with everything, he's like part of the family!
It looks magnificent! ❤ Amazing!
I like the first stain best unless dark spots or planks or whatever would show through in which case I’d like the second stain. The dining room is magnificent!👏🏻👏🏻⛄️
So glad to See
You Julie. The
Cottage, oh my😊
I like the grey one as I think it will not be as dominating as the other two and will blend in well with the other colours chosen for other aspects of the interior
Brown earth! It is a much warmer and inviting look. Plus, to me, it fits a “farmhouse” . Fun vid!
I think the darker one will hide the fact you are using so many different type of floorboards and make it appear more cohesive. I also think it will contrast better with the light walls and natural light coming in from the windows.
You can mix the two stains if you’d like to get the right color. They’ve done this on HGTV at least.
My wish is to have a Julie and Malcom’s in my life!
The Brown Earth colour makes the wood look alive, much better. The darker is dole and listless.
Brown earth definitely 😊
Everything is fantastic!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Definitely like the washed umber
Hi Julie- the last test you tried is the best one- darker colors don't show the dirt too much, lighter colors will. :D You might want to look at Osmos stains- they protect the floor better and make them scruffs resistant. :D
Well done. I'm always so happy to see the progress in these videos.

Brown Earth has my vote 😍😍
I like the second one
Washed Umber- good grounding depth, but neutral, not red. Brown Earth is reddish.
Washed umber is best, I think😊
Oh My GOD!! You are the custodians of Oliver Cromwell's flask!!!!! How amazing...😮😮😮
Option 1, brown earth. Love the dining room in the main house, too.
I think Washed Umber is the more versatile . It will be neutral in what ever color scheme you may choose for the fabrics, etc.
Brown Earth! Beautiful!
Brown earth definitely. It is so much warmer and inviting a colour.
Brown earth is such a warm welcoming color.
Julie nice video and very good translation to Spanish. The cottage is beautiful.
If you haven't finished all of the shots for the book, I would recommend having a fire in the fireplace for the photos.
