Sorry to be blunt, but probably. It takes years to master, some investment, having social and working skills (long hours with a bad pay, that's how you would start), tolerance to frustration (gigs that don't come to fruition, occcasional shitty crews, producers whose only motivation is to save every penny possible no matter what...). The older we get, usually, the less happy we are with those situations, plus our body is not able to withstand everything we throw at it anymore. In the end, only you can answer the question "how much am I willing to sacrifice for the POSSIBILITY to work in the low ranks of this industry?". And do you have a B plan in case the plan goes south? My best wishes.
Hi, I was at Bluescreen last night. I really liked these interviews. I work in TV postproduction workflow, so Geoff Boyle's comments about shooting uncompressed RAW made me chuckle. His gain, my pain. Although then at the end he admits he'd be happy to burn it in, but it's the directors who want the choice! I've passed your darkartoflight.wordpress.com/ URL on to some friends who are colourists.
Thanks for that.. yes I work in similar and Geoff is a real character, definitely says what he thinks.. I now have a website up www.darkartoflight.co.uk - which I will be growing from now on (not all of it works but its getting there, and will be fully functional by the end of the week.. thanks for comments, I am just about to upload another interview and more will follow so keep an eye out..! best, Chris
what a handsome man!
I second every single word he was saying.
Great interview!
RIP Geoff.
Yes I agree. Thank you for your words
I love this guy. He likes the power of digital film. In the end, it comes down to story. Does your "look" fit the story?
Thank you sir
Is 49 years old too old to start in this Industry ? Please be honest. Thank you
