Love these cars! My mum bought a 1967 E reg Anglia in 1968,when i was 1 year old. White,red vinyl interior...i slid around on the back seat as she drove around corners!😍😍
I note that Anglia was registered in Southend and I spent about an hour working on a near identical car, in Crystal Palace about 19 years ago. I was working for a recovery firm that covered Green Flag work and the fella that called me out, had clearly just pulled it from many years storage, to try his luck with a cheeky Green Flag call out. I didn't mind at all and spent time pulling plugs, squirting WD40 down the bores, cleaned points and sorting the carb float valve. Took a while starting and would have flattened any modern lithium jump pack, but the recovery truck had huge batteries and equally heavy duty jump leads. Got it started and running but could tell it needed fresh fuel. Really think that might be the same car, so would love to know if current owner knows where it was, around the millennium?
I remember when the police used these, with a whopping big blue light on top.As a young driver in the early 70's, I saw quite a few flashing away in my rear view mirror.
When l was 17 l bought my first car, after that l got caught in a whirlwind of constant buying, selling and trading. I continued doing that until l was 52yo. Another of my early cars was a 1961 105 E. The truth is as much as l loved my Morris Minor the Ford had so much more to offer. No oil leaks, better brakes, more power and a little bit better handling. It was rust free in great condition, white with red interior. I painted it red. It really looked great. I traded it even for a 1957 Triumph TR2. I suspect the owner of this car is a race fan. I see custom wheels, a tachometer peeking out from under the dash and possibly a "Camel GT" sticker on the rear side glass.

My classic is a 1967 Volvo Amazon. It truly was a huge leap forward - even today it acceleration/braking/handling is up with modern cars - and mine still has a perfect body with zero rust. And looks to die for. I love it.
First car l learned to drive in. Mum had a 105E estate in imperial maroon with platinum grey roof. ACU396C registered in South Shields new. Dad bought her second hand at BCA auction in Brighouse. I loved that car and used to back it out the garage and wash and polish her. Fab car and years ahead of the competion with its over square high revving engine and rakish looks. I love these quick videos. Sometimes I don’t have 20 minutes or more for a full video, but this lets me get my Stef fix! But for the car, I agree completely that this is a 10/10 aesthetically. I would love this car, although I have never driven a right hand drive car before.
Great video, best review I've seen. I'm in western Canada and I been restoring a 1965 in my spare time, saw these cars everywhere when I was a kid, thought they were cool looking. Unfortunately many didn't survive our cold harsh winters. They did copy the rear window design from the 1963 Mercury Monterey, quite unique. Keep up the good work Steph.
I had one of these aswell..... It was a 1960 105E. Mine was Grey with a White stripe down the side. A great little car except alway was a bitch to start when the engine was warm! Nearly always had to push start it. It was the Starter Motor Bendix - it was a "Pull-In" design instead of the usual "Throw-out" so always used to kick back! But other than that it served us well for a good many years.....
Nice car - my late Dad's firm's van was based on the 105E, a Ford Thames 7 cwt. Your car as registered near here in Southend, hence the JN on the number plate.
As always, great video. Love the Anglia. It would be fun to do a back to back comparison of the Ford Anglia and a Triumph Herald of the same vintage. Similar size and competitors in the market, but one very English and one quite American in inspiration.
I must confess I was puzzled by your reference to American influence in the interior. When it came to the fins, I had to think, "you call those fins?" I was a new driver in 1960 and a car enthusiast throughout the 1950's, and I well remember the ridiculous fins from the mid fifties and well into the sixties. By those standards, this little car's rear is quite tasteful! That said, nicely done, young lady.
Here in America Ford released a few Mercury models with a reverse slant rear window, only this window had a large center panel which would retract behind the rear seats. It was called a Breezeway window and was meant to increase airflow when so few cars had air conditioning. We had some neat stuff back then, back when there was postwar prosperity and optimism and GM could actually make good cars. And you said you wish we could ride along with you... I would ride with a pretty lady such as yourself all day long. I'll bet the conversation would be great!

I have always been fascinated by the Anglia. I had a Matchbox Anglia when I was little, and it was one of my favorites. I saw an English movie where a man's Anglia was stolen, and he went to heroic lengths to bring down a criminal car theft ring to get his car back. In the US, Ford used the inward sloping rear window on its large Mercury and luxury Lincoln models. The called it a "breezeway window", and opened electrically.
Had the van version of this as my first car. It was bright yellow with black side panels and wide steel wheels painted white. Looked like a liquorice allsort! 😂😂

The classic Mercedes saloons had the fins on the back of them, hence the nickname of "Fintail" for the series, archetypal of the era (1959-68). I love these classics, and I love your video reviews of them as well, just the kind of format I remember from the original Motor Shows on TV until those stupid oafs Clarkson, Hammond & May turned up and dropped a right spanner in the works of a genre called Lifestyle.

My Aunt had the 997cc version in light green and it sometimes jumped out of 2nd gear going up a hill and she crunched it back in!! Cute little car and extremely narrow and that lovely smell of plastic vinyl that I remember. As you say Steph modern cars are very bloated and big compared to these old classics. My Austin 1300 (nice car) had those handy little quarter windows like the Anglia that you could flick your ciggy ash out of. They all had such character then. I have a very bland, dull, boring 2009 Hyundai I30 now........but it is so, so reliable, easy to drive, comfy, quick'ish and after TEN years has not a spot of rust on it but very UNINspiring as you can imagine like nearly all modern cars. Would love to own a classic but HOW do you stop it from rusting away to nothing after 5 years ??? Keep up the good work Steph.
The film is Made in Dagenham and not Dagenham Girls - absolutely fantastic movie. I live about 15mls from Goathland - all the N Yorks Moors National Park is fantastic for visiting and driving - here's hoping we can do it again soon eh? xx
This was my first proper car after my Regal it was a total rust bucket but me and my friends still talk about the trips we had in her 40 years ago the trips to the seaside and the Friday and Saturday nights out with 7 of us squeezed into it. Sadly the rust get the better of it in the end
Has to be my favourite Ford apart from the Cortina MK1. My Grandad had the previous model 100E which was always overheating. I have memories of him with the bonnet up and steam coming from the engine.
I own a Anglia 105e 1960 model ...great fun to drive after getting used to the large skinny steering wheel and reaching for second gear lol... but what is with the door jams as the shut lines are terrible... ps great little video by the way...
My first car was a Ford Anglia, I paid £35 for it in 1968 I thought it looked fantastic in grey and maroon with twin aerials on the fins. The previous owner had painted the seats red which looked really good but after sitting in them for half an hour I found I was stuck to them. Anyway wanted to show it off so set off to Port Mulgrave to show my Grandad and take him out for the day . My brother drove and I sat in the back , on our way to Whitby I noticed the back seat was moving up and down whenever we hit a bump so when we parked up I whispered it to my brother so we discretely had a look around it saw that the rear wheels gone right up into the arches. Decided not to tell Grandad , when we dropped him off he said I'd done really well for the money . Needless to say the floor was completely rotten .
I used to drive this car when i was 14 used to sneak itout my mums garage i passed my test at 17 first time i was a little sod for doing that at 14 but not many police around then

Great video, thank you for this massive help!!!! i was just wondering how it feels to changes gears in the car, like is it difficult to move the stick around or is it really easy, and is steering the wheel pretty tough to do as well or completely fine, thanks again!
So I found it really easy, but that’s because I drive a 60s car daily and it was the usual. There’s no synchromesh on first gear which meant to go into first I had to come to a complete halt before proceeding to get into first gear to ensure I didn’t crunch the gearbox. In terms of steering, a classic car is always far less responsive than a modern car - but I find it a lot easier and the modern light steering of new cars actually freaks me out. Feel like if I cough I’ve accidentally driven across three lanes Parking is actually easier than most modern cars too because of near 100% visibility.

@@thatguytv2013 You'll find a Ford gearbox is always a good one - nice and light - but carry a pair of mole grips in the boot - those long gear levers have been known to break off - mine did, back in the 70's. Anglia is a much better car than the Minor, people who were old then, just loved the Minor for some odd reason.
My dad's First car was an Anglia. We used to go on holidays in it: the four of us, plus a dog and a budgie in a cage. Probably wouldn't be allowed now.
I'm 58 dear, so I remember this car well.... btw Have you noticed how big cars have grown over the years?. I saw this car amongst a load of modern jobs and it looked tiny... 😊
@@idriveaclassic Steph. The modern Astra looks SOOOOOOOO wide and squashed (UGLY) and nowhere near as good as the Mk 1 Astra 1600 I had in the 90's.....1984 B reg., great little car but very few have survived ? You might remember the orig Astra, maybe when medium cars were....... MEDIUM?

Yes but you can't do 300 miles on a tank of petrol. For 4 years in the mid 1990s when I had to take my modern off the road I went back to a 105E. I would do 2 x 200 mile trips every weekend (I worked well out of town). Could do the 200 miles in a fraction less than 4 hours sometimes and always using less than one tank of petrol. Did a bit of prep first. Full uncompromised engine rebuild with minor performance mods including balancing. Overhauled the cooling system (new radiator, pump, hoses, thermostat etc). It had no oil or water leaks. All new ball joints and bushings. New tyres (radials; the widest that can fit on standard rims). Then get to know the car with a series of small trips then just went for it. Would often overtake a small modern shitbox going up hill and could do a bit over 80mph on the straight flat out. She left many surprised people in her wake. A sweet running beautiful car happy cruising at 60mph for hours on end. I would travel with tools and some parts and a gallon of petrol just in case! .

Now if i am not mistaken American Rockabilly star Eddie Cochran was killed riding as a taxi passenger in a four door version of one of these while he was doing some gigs in the U.K. in 1960. Nope wrong he had died in a Ford consul Bristol taxi sorry error on my part .

Nice but I would have liked to have a better explanation of the knobs and dials and also a quick look inside the boot and engine bay would not have hurt.
I've come here after today's update video on this car and in my opinion it looks far better on the Revolution alloys. Goes really well too, if it'll sit comfortably at 65moh then what more do you need? I Live about 40 miles from Goathland and yet I've never been.....really shameful for a Heartbeat fan.
as a co owner of a 1964 Opel Kadett A, in rough shape mind you, I wonder, aren't you afraid of keeping an small old engine in the high revvs for longer periods of time, or high at all. I've been tought to never go faster than 70 km/h cuz it would hurt the engine, the valves really. The engine in the Kadett is 998cc straight 4 and I have done 80km/h once and it sounded like it was about to die funnily enough. Or have I been tought just a lie from an old fart that is just afraid that I'd might loose controll and crash?
Aaaah ... my first ever car (bought for £140 by my father). No rack and pinion steering so if you turned the wheels when stationary you ran the risk of snapping the steering link arm. Bit embarrassing outside the pictures when you looked a plonker in front of a date - and it was the bus for her and a walk of five miles for you. Otherwise a pretty good car .... even cool at the time.
No one should turn a car's wheels while stationary , yet you see it every day . It's because of power steering, and people just don't know that even a small movement of the car, fore and aft will allow the wheels to turn easily and no strain on the steering

Love Anglias had loads over the year had a van when I was 18 put a lotus twin cam in it wish i still had it ps live less than an hour from goathland

The very first Anglia produced at Halewood (Liverpool) is in Liverpool Museum if anyone is around that way. Its mint obviously.

I used to drive this car when i was 14 used to sneak itout my mums garage i passed my test at 17 first time i was a little sod for doing that at 14 but not many police around then

Great video, thank you for this massive help!!!! i was just wondering how it feels to changes gears in the car, like is it difficult to move the stick around or is it really easy, and is steering the wheel pretty tough to do as well or completely fine, thanks again!
So I found it really easy, but that’s because I drive a 60s car daily and it was the usual. There’s no synchromesh on first gear which meant to go into first I had to come to a complete halt before proceeding to get into first gear to ensure I didn’t crunch the gearbox.
In terms of steering, a classic car is always far less responsive than a modern car - but I find it a lot easier and the modern light steering of new cars actually freaks me out. Feel like if I cough I’ve accidentally driven across three lanes
Parking is actually easier than most modern cars too because of near 100% visibility.

@@thatguytv2013 You'll find a Ford gearbox is always a good one - nice and light - but carry a pair of mole grips in the boot - those long gear levers have been known to break off - mine did, back in the 70's. Anglia is a much better car than the Minor, people who were old then, just loved the Minor for some odd reason.
My dad's First car was an Anglia. We used to go on holidays in it: the four of us, plus a dog and a budgie in a cage. Probably wouldn't be allowed now.

@@idriveaclassic Steph. The modern Astra looks SOOOOOOOO wide and squashed (UGLY) and nowhere near as good as the Mk 1 Astra 1600 I had in the 90's.....1984 B reg., great little car but very few have survived ? You might remember the orig Astra, maybe when medium cars were....... MEDIUM?
I'd like the chrome wheel trims back on it, and it's a little scruffy and rusty, though that's my opinion. It's still a nice car.

is it suitable to drive long journeys over like 300 miles? If so what are the precautionary measure to be undertaken before going on the long journey expedition
Yes but you can't do 300 miles on a tank of petrol. For 4 years in the mid 1990s when I had to take my modern off the road I went back to a 105E. I would do 2 x 200 mile trips every weekend (I worked well out of town). Could do the 200 miles in a fraction less than 4 hours sometimes and always using less than one tank of petrol. Did a bit of prep first. Full uncompromised engine rebuild with minor performance mods including balancing. Overhauled the cooling system (new radiator, pump, hoses, thermostat etc). It had no oil or water leaks. All new ball joints and bushings. New tyres (radials; the widest that can fit on standard rims). Then get to know the car with a series of small trips then just went for it. Would often overtake a small modern shitbox going up hill and could do a bit over 80mph on the straight flat out. She left many surprised people in her wake. A sweet running beautiful car happy cruising at 60mph for hours on end. I would travel with tools and some parts and a gallon of petrol just in case! .

Now if i am not mistaken American Rockabilly star Eddie Cochran was killed riding as a taxi passenger in a four door version of one of these while he was doing some gigs in the U.K. in 1960. Nope wrong he had died in a Ford consul Bristol taxi sorry error on my part .

I've come here after today's update video on this car and in my opinion it looks far better on the Revolution alloys. Goes really well too, if it'll sit comfortably at 65moh then what more do you need? I Live about 40 miles from Goathland and yet I've never been.....really shameful for a Heartbeat fan.

as a co owner of a 1964 Opel Kadett A, in rough shape mind you, I wonder, aren't you afraid of keeping an small old engine in the high revvs for longer periods of time, or high at all. I've been tought to never go faster than 70 km/h cuz it would hurt the engine, the valves really. The engine in the Kadett is 998cc straight 4 and I have done 80km/h once and it sounded like it was about to die funnily enough. Or have I been tought just a lie from an old fart that is just afraid that I'd might loose controll and crash?

Aaaah ... my first ever car (bought for £140 by my father). No rack and pinion steering so if you turned the wheels when stationary you ran the risk of snapping the steering link arm. Bit embarrassing outside the pictures when you looked a plonker in front of a date - and it was the bus for her and a walk of five miles for you. Otherwise a pretty good car .... even cool at the time.

No one should turn a car's wheels while stationary , yet you see it every day . It's because of power steering, and people just don't know that even a small movement of the car, fore and aft will allow the wheels to turn easily and no strain on the steering
