Our callaloo here in Dominica is done with crabs. But it's not hunting season yet so am going to do this with pig tail. Man my husband is gonna love this. Thanks chris!
Crab is indeed the traditional way.. but from time to time we rock the salted pigtails and/or salted beef. Do try.. I'm sure he'll show his gratefulness
Hi Chris, I am Saint Lucian. How I enjoy a good callaloo especially if it's with salted pigtail or crab with young dasheen leaves . You're doing a fantastic job. I appreciate you and your talent. Always a fan
In land locked Indiana we have pigs, crabs not so much! I can't wait to make this and we will use kale or collards. While eating it I will pretend we're in the islands, enjoy a nice adult beverage and relax. Thank you for all your hard work, it looks greT!
Thanks for this, will be making it today! I am Jamaican, when my mom makes this she puts in green banana. Anyway, going to get my ingredients NOW! Can't wait.
Love callaloo with a passion ❤️. But have never put pumpkin in it, I will now! Have everything I need (including crab, salt fish, salt beef, pigtail-going to choose one😉) to make it today!! Thank you for the recipe and inspiration 😊
Thanks! Just sent the pic. You're good & the meals are inspiring. Sometimes forget the joy of cooking (and eating) home food. Was at the Crop Over Intro fest at the waterfront last month and was hoping to get there in time to introduce my husband (Bajan) to one of the most authentic t'dad chefs I've followed. As he says callaloo & flying fish go together 😊. Dinner was delicious! (Callaloo, rice & peas & corned beef).
Chriiiiiiis, can you please please pleeeease do a pig feet recipe! I'm a southern girl that can already cook up a really good pig feet stew. Bur i can only imagine how it would be with your Caribbean style = )
Jhan in trinidad its served with rice, macaroni pie, salad, boiled ground provision, dumplings. You can have it like a soup just as is if you like. hope this helped.

How do you serve it? I saw rice on the side. Is it eaten with rice or just as a soup? The end product looks very similar to Indian Saag. :-)

thanks for responding
Where in Canada do you live? Toronto has lots of West Indian grocery stores that have dasheen bush!
true, but the price is ridiculous and the quality is mostly terrible. + they never have 'baby' leaves.
caribbeanpot I'm very curious to try it with the spinach though now! Regardless anything with pigtail is yummy! Lol
do use baby spinach though.. the more mature leaves can give it a bit of a 'bitter' taste
