Used to live on 260 South 2nd Ave, plus, 300 Gramatan Ave. From the years 2008-2015, Mount Vernon was a straight war zone to the point that kids were carrying pocket knives with them to middle school because people were getting jumped robbed for their coats, t mobile sidekicks, iPod touches and getting shot left and right. Calling it NYC Most Dangerous Suburb is a pretty accurate statement, especially in 2024. I ran into a woman from Soundview (Bronx) that moved to MV in 2020. When I asked her how she likes the town, she looked me in the face and said “Mount Vernon reminds me of Brooklyn in the 90s”. The police department and education board of the 1990s were so corrupt that Federal Agents in the state nicknamed the city “Mount Vermin”. It may look like a quiet suburb, but that’s only because the city has a silent but deadly nature to it. Don’t let the trees and birds chirping fool you, this is the grimiest city in Westchester County.
