Fantastic guide! I didn't realize how complex the game was until I got deeper, but your guide is helping me understand how its bullet canceling works. It'll make a huge difference for my next run. Much appreciated!
I wasn't either at first! I had to upload this like 3 times, the first time I'd accidentally erased the actual gem vacuum segment before uploading (still learning to use Shotcut, the letter O key apparently deletes segments in a non-undoable way?), the second time I realized I'd recorded getting the 1up and forgot to include it, and the third time gunnerSTG pointed out bullet sealing jacked up rank enormously, something that's relatively unknown and that he only found mentioned on a Japanese website. I just had to include that! You can effectively max out the game rank by halfway through stage 1 doing that (and you might as well, it'll get maxed out eventually if you're scoring well even without sealing bullets).
Tremendous! Thank you so much BKRoo! Currently learning the game and this guide is super helpful. Very much enjoying the game. I can get to St3 with a poor score (the last pattern of the St3 boss is a tricky one @.@), but I'll focus more on scoring for the first couple of stages at least.
I'm glad it's been helpful! I find streaming in a wide C pattern is easiest for the Stage 3 boss. If you're aiming for your first 1CC of the 1st loop, it's a good attack to start bombing. Start at one end of the C, then when you need to reverse direction, use a bomb and that should soon end the fight as you're streaming once it wears off.
I was hanging out on Twitch streams of folks playing Progear and I had to keep typing out scoring system explanations when they mentioned they didn't understand how the gem system worked. A friend suggested I just compile all the known info into a video for the sake of convenience. I hope it's informative and useful.
I'm new to schmups and never realised the importance. I'd love to 1cc this game one day. Am only able to get to the start of level 4 so far on 9 coins (27 lives, lol) on the X-box s version at the mo. Bullet hell used to scare me off a bit but I have found if you just be stubborn and keep grinding you can see your improvements, a week ago I couldn't even get past the level 1 boss. Really helpful vid thanks.
@@BareKnuckleRoo I'm VERY slowly improving am getting towards the end of level 4 now. I'm taking some of Schmup Junkie's advice and trying to be a bit more aggressive when poss and trying to get kills before they start firing at me. I find the big helicopters in the middle of some levels are a bitch.
@@ianjacka469 The big helicopters that act as kind of minibosses can be troublesome for sure, learning the best way to handle them definitely takes some practice!
Im only seriously getting into shumps after over 30 year of gaming and kind of bouncing around as there's seems to lots happening at the moment between the switch and playstation. Dont think ive seen as well an explained video for scoring mechanics for a game as this tho. So thanks!
A great tutorial about this game ! Thanks a lot ! I buy it separetely on Capcom Arcade Stadium (on Xbox One) and your video will help me a lot ! Thank.

Thanks a bunch for this tutorial! Wasn't aware bullet sealing increased the rank. Overall a very clear and helpful guide

This is probably the best Progear scoring guide I've found online. Thanks very much!
High praise considering it's kinda half-assed :V

God tier tutorial.
I felt I half-assed it a bit (no real video editing skills here, sorry) but I'm glad it's helpful. :)
Thanks for this! I like this game but could 't figure out how the scoring works.
You're welcome! It's a tricky game for sure.
Thank you so much for this Roo! Super helpful tutorial!
You're welcome, I hope it helps you go for the 1cc :)

It's just a matter of playing until your reflexes can keep up with the action. It all eventually clicks! I'm glad it's helpful.

Don't forget to check out the JP exclusive game "Harmful Park" for the PS1. It's a lot of fun and has some of the nicest pixel art in any shmup!
Thanks a lot for this tutorial !
I hope it helps! Congrats again on your recent 1CC.

great thanks ;)
Let's go
Thanks for the tutorial, really hate the scoring in this game though, just find it over complicated and not very fun
