You know it's good narration when you feel a tingle everytime the narrator raises his voice. This is what a dark fantasy cinematic openening should feel like. I can say nothing else but superb.
2:29 is what gives me the most chills. How tf Godfrey/Hoorah Loux manage to not only get killed, but also crucified? What was in the Bad Lands that was powerful enough to kill Hoorah Loux? That’s what interests me the most. We definitely need a dlc that lets us live through the Long March.
Lord Reizart I feel like it's more of like the people outside the Lands Between gathered together and put a stop to him. I mean, he was banished, correct? Him and his men were war-hungry, and most likely terrorized the other lands, which would eventually result in his demise.
@@glovedgamer4982 I don’t think their need for war was directed towards innocents, or peaceful people/living beings. We can safely assume that Godfrey was open minded, as he doesn’t resent us tarnished, and loves his son Morgott, despite him being an omen. If I had to guess, he probably didn’t want to banish Morgott/Mohg, but Marika had more leverage/political power. Nepheli Loux also seems to have a strong moral compass, seeing as she shows regret towards the banished knight she killed, i.e. her saying something along the lines of “you were a fine warrior, but chose the wrong master to serve”. She definitely did not agree with Godrick’s rule. We also see that she heavily disdained the slaughtering of the albinaurics, enough for her to leave Gideon.
@Black Iron Tarkus While yes, he didn't war against those he wasn't told to, Marika specifically told him to wage war against those outside the Lands Between.
...well, To be fair, Hollow Knight _did_ have a "Dung Defender" of sorts. He was quite literal in what he did, and what he was. Elden Ring's "Dung Eater"...? The fact that the cutscene straight up tells us even DEAD Tarnished and THE #1 KING OF THE TARNISHED were brought back to life as a last ditch effort and some, if not most folks forgot until they finished the game is amazing.
And for some fracking reason we are the one dealing with it how ironic we have no claim to fame, we are just noone a body dead and yet grace decided that yes this unknown tarnished who has no great deeds is worthy to be risen makes ya think it was a bet between the gods themselves to see if you would join them and honestly that's scarier then anything else

Elden Ring story wise (to me) is the first time there's a genuine sense of hope for the world, if it was more Dark Souls I'd feel like the goal would be to stop the shattering from happening, but because it's already happened and it's actually been a very long time since, the world feels like it's between ages and you're coming into it to finally let things progress instead of everything being stagnant, it's even shown with how the stars aren't moving, people are trapped unable to die, and despite everything being in ruins nothing is able to be rebuilt

0:04 shows marika destroying the elden ring. However, in the next scene you can see radagan doing the same action. Because radagan in marika. 0:30 a normal scene from the lands between. 0:43 queen marika being punished and held captive for destroying the elden ring. 1:01 godwyn was the very first god to parish. He was killed by the black knife assassins who used the rune of death to kill him. This then caused marika to shatter the elden ring in grief of her loss. 1:11 ranni possibly holding an unalloyed needle. Unalloyed needles were originally made by miquella, in his attempt to stop any outer god (including the greater will) from being able to have any effect on the user. 1:19 i think thats mergit fighting the redmane soldiers (radhans army). But im not sure. 1:24 mohg (the lord of blood), carrying the body of miquella (the eternal child), after he kidnapped him from the haligtree. Hoping to help him ascend to godhood and become his consort, to then allow his god, the formless mother, to rule over the lands between 1:34 after the shattering, rykard wanted to be immortal. So, he allowed himself to be eaten by a serpent. In the years to come, rykard would consume many more. Obtaining their power and vitality in the process. 1:42 the battle of radhan and malenia. No one won this battle. Radhan and his land were infected by malenias scarlet rot, and malenia fell into a slumber. A slumber that lasted so long, mohg was able to steal miquella (the twin brother of malenia), right from under her nose. 2:07 i have no clue who these are. But yes he is also a tarnished. 2:40 fia, a lady who serves godwyn (the first god to die). Altho his mind died long ago, his body still lives. Making him somewhat of a zombie per se. She belives that the undead should be treated the same as the living, and she dreams of making that happen. 2:45 the dung eater is a psycho. He likes pain and suffering and illness. He was insane and hated before and he is insane and hated now. Thats also why we see him getting excuted. The mans a bad dude. 2:52 sir gideon, a tarnished who wished to learn about the truth. You can see hundreds of eyes in his coffin. Possibly a nice little mention to bloodborne and how eyes meant knowledge in that game. It looks like Ranni is holding one of Miquellas unalloyed gold needles at 1:11. Would make sense considering her intentions to get rid of the greater will.
Hey ! For the Rykard one im not so sure; it is said in the lore that when he claimed the shard of the Elden Ring, after the Shattering, Rykard committed the great blasphemy by allowing himself to be consumed by a giant serpent, so he might devour, grow, and live eternally.( yeah he literally fed himself to the serpent ) to be able to merge with him. that's why the serpent is quite small in this scene; cause it still has not become the boss we see in the game where he is absolutely gigantic. So right now that's the serpent eating Rykard 👍 Yum

I don't think Radagon was trying to repair the Elden Ring. **SPOILER** By following Gold Mask questline you discover Radagon's secret, that is "Radagon IS Marika". This is why we see both Marika and Radagon shattering the Ring. Why though? Don't know lul
@@luizpk22 No, in Marika's Hammer it quite literally says "The hammer used by Marika to shatter the Elden Ring, and the hammer Radagon used to try and repair it". He literally works for the Greater Will and the Elden Ring, of course he'd try to repair it if it broke.
so it seems Miquella wasn't asleep and already in the cocoon when he was kidnapped. idk why but i originally thought he was unconscious during the whole thing. lowkey i could see Malenias fight with Radahn being a effect of the kidnapping and not because Radahn just simply wanted her rune. if im not mistaken Mohgwhyns palace is under Caelid so it would make sense why she was there in the first place.
I like how they feel like renaissance era oil paintings from the world of these gods and beasts, made by artists who live in it, and actually I think you can find many of the art hanging on walls inside the game. It's less flashier than the common game cinematics that saved money on full animation and heavily treat and dress up still art with fancy effects and motion etc. but there is way more gravitas to this approach, and in a unique way it absorbs and immerses me into its world more effectively. Just like Souls games in general do vs. others.
Has anyone noticed how the first 2 frames have Marika (tank top, breasts) and Radagon (open chest, no top) switch places? because they are one in the same.
Hands down one of the best intros I've ever seen to a video game at 30 years old. I have an associates in video game design. My god what a piece of work....
In classic souls fashion, I was totally overwhelmed and confused by the opening when I first started the game, but now having gotten to know the characters, this is essential viewing and amazing.
Not Radahn though. Or a very young one. Radahn in his prime was considered the strongest demigod of all and had the upper hand against Malenia until she basically used a "suicide attack" all while he was maintaining the stars in place. And fighting great knights at the same time.
Probably when Morgott first escaped from the sewers and captured the city. The subsequent wars and battles after the shattering probably made Radahn a lot stronger.
First, no thats not true Radahn (and Malenia) is already stated several times in the Game itself to be the mightiest of all demigods, not just the story but also the gameplay too (Radahn is harder than Morgott lets be honest) We know this bcuz, when Radahn fought Malenia, which is his last fight, he looks very much in shape, no wounds or injuries any like that, and he fought Malenia, strongest of all Empyreans, to a stalemate If Morgott beats him, Radahn wouldve sustain injuries, physically weakened and would lose if he fought Malenia. Perhaps its his forces that won against Radahn and maybe Morgott ambush and caught Radahn by suprise but Radahn didn't suffer any serious injuries, if any

I wholeheartedly agree with this
Lord Reizart I feel like it's more of like the people outside the Lands Between gathered together and put a stop to him.

And the DLC
The fact that the cutscene straight up tells us even DEAD Tarnished and THE #1 KING OF THE TARNISHED were brought back to life as a last ditch effort and some, if not most folks forgot until they finished the game is amazing.
And for some fracking reason we are the one dealing with it how ironic we have no claim to fame, we are just noone a body dead and yet grace decided that yes this unknown tarnished who has no great deeds is worthy to be risen makes ya think it was a bet between the gods themselves to see if you would join them and honestly that's scarier then anything else
@@theenderdestruction2362the grace seems to bring back any tarnished that was part of or descendant of Godfrey's army though
D, Rogier, Patches, Boggart and Corhyn are all tarnished too and they don't seem to have any particular renown
What's different between most tarnished in the game and the ones we see in the intro (including our own character) is the ones in the intro never stopped seeing the light of grace.
So the question is: why does everyone but these six characters lose their ability to see the guidance of grace? (Seven characters if you include Vyke who almost managed to become Elden Lord/Lord of the Frenzied Flame)
@thiago292 im certain patches isnt even normal like at all, D was seemly a famous undead hunter, boggart was probably a criminal of royal decent or a magician that and he surived the damn dung eater and i have no idea who corhyn also no tarnished is really gunning for the elden ring really so i guess the grace just kinda fucks off that or the greater is playing favorites
Obviously the name "Dung Eater" us funny but I think it fits perfectly. They could have named him "The Defiler" or something else similar but the choice just really shows the filth and depravity of his character.

Fast forward to 1 month later and we all realize this game has less narrative than any of the previous FromSoft games
@@jakefoley9539 if by fromsoft you mean just the souls series then yeah its pretty slim narrative wise so maybe, but ever? lol not even close fromsoft made some really near 0 narrative games back in the day, even their story driven games had less narrative than souls they always were all about the gameplay
This hits different after the Game Awards
Yeah it was a fun journey the award was deserved
Still looking for Bill Clinton
Aaaaarise now, ye tarnished, ye Orthodox Rabbi named Bill Clinton
1:28 if im not mistaken the person in white is actually miquella, malenia’s brother and the person thats holding him is mohg, the lord of blood. Theres a lore behind this i dont wanna spoil but its very sad
You're right
I beat mogh today and I have no clue what is going on, am I just running by super important npcs?
@@mmsL125 You find a lot of info in item descriptions, in this case Mohg's remembrance
@@mmsL125 yes
He gets so hyped for the Dung eater

Thank you !
Radagon is the embodiment of the Golden Order inside Marika, hence his title "Radagon of the Golden Order".
I don't know if its a stupid question, but if the dungeater is hung in the cinematic why do we see him in the game ?
"A tarnished of no renown" felt that in my soul for some reason lol.. the real MVP though is THE LOATHSOME DUNG EATER!!!
FromSoftware never disappoints in their souls games, another badasss intro.
Man I wished they did Goldmask more justice. He deserves a side quest as big as Ranni yet all he gets is a simp with a wheel on his neck.
Not even a Bossfight
Even the dungeater had a few bossfights you had to do
Brother Corhyn: "This man is amazing, I would die for him, he's the best, all hail Goldmask, etc."
Goldmask: *Just stands there pointing*
Game of the decade 2010s - Dark Souls
Game of the decade 2020s - Elden Ring
Calling it now.
Na, GTA 6
I like how they feel like renaissance era oil paintings from the world of these gods and beasts, made by artists who live in it, and actually I think you can find many of the art hanging on walls inside the game. It's less flashier than the common game cinematics that saved money on full animation and heavily treat and dress up still art with fancy effects and motion etc. but there is way more gravitas to this approach, and in a unique way it absorbs and immerses me into its world more effectively. Just like Souls games in general do vs. others.
Me on Thursday/Friday exactly at midnight :

I don’t see why the other needed to be revived when you get the dung eater
Because Dung Eater's a psycho.
"the fallen leaves tell a story" causes me goosebumps everytime
This is one of, if not the best intro cinematic I've ever seen! Absolute chills!
Onimusha 3 would like a word
Has anyone noticed how the first 2 frames have Marika (tank top, breasts) and Radagon (open chest, no top) switch places? because they are one in the same.
Damn Good Eye
1:04 ranni is shown after the night of the black knives cuz she was the one who arranged it… wild little detail
Hands down one of the best intros I've ever seen to a video game at 30 years old. I have an associates in video game design. My god what a piece of work....
EPIC BRO EPIC
In classic souls fashion, I was totally overwhelmed and confused by the opening when I first started the game, but now having gotten to know the characters, this is essential viewing and amazing.
This hits different after you complete the story and understand more of it...what a brilliant game...truly a magnificent experience
Love how they show Morgot absolutely stomping Radahn it’s a fun way of showing that even though Radahn is strong he still gets destroyed by Morgott
@@massivecunt8263 suicide? Malenia is literally a goddess vessel, she is more OP than "Radahn in his prime"
First, no thats not true
Radahn (and Malenia) is already stated several times in the Game itself to be the mightiest of all demigods, not just the story but also the gameplay too (Radahn is harder than Morgott lets be honest)
We know this bcuz, when Radahn fought Malenia, which is his last fight, he looks very much in shape, no wounds or injuries any like that, and he fought Malenia, strongest of all Empyreans, to a stalemate
If Morgott beats him, Radahn wouldve sustain injuries, physically weakened and would lose if he fought Malenia. Perhaps its his forces that won against Radahn and maybe Morgott ambush and caught Radahn by suprise but Radahn didn't suffer any serious injuries, if any
@@elvisadika7458 average Radahn simp ignoring the intro to that game
This intro goes so hard. I thought when I started the game it was a bit much but after beating it I just love it so much
Not enough credit is given to the opening narrator, he really put a lot of passion into that line delivery
