I'm 70. I can appreciate those tones. I grew up listening to surf music in Wisconsin. Thanks for another great GOTD!
I share your sentiments ❤🎸
Everyone can appreciate those tones ...such an influence over decades of guitar players
I’m not sure how well known the fact is that “Endless Summer” opened to “sold out standing room only” in Wichita, Kansas! Surf music has always been about the Vibe. This guitar has it. Nice playing Mike 🎉
My alltime favorite guitar think Nokie Edwards everytime i hear a Ventures record
That was fantastic Michael. Took me back to my youth.
Lemmo must be studying and practicing a lot for each guitar. I love it.
I would love to own a Moserite.
The only guy I ever heard that could make a Mosrite sound good is Charlie Hosoda. He is only UA-cam and has a number of fine guitars....plays fingerstyle.
You might want to look into a Hallmark instead. The necks on 1960s Mosrites aren't for everyone, and Hallmark models are supposed to be more user-friendly in general.
@@JackTheSkunk yes Charlie is a fine player and he gets great tone from his Mosrite.
Great demo Lemmo!
I gotta wax up my surfboard 😂
Bruh this guy is a legend on then strings ❤️🔥❤️🔥
THE NECKS ON THESE PLAY WELL, THE CRAFTSMANSHIP IS PERFECT
Totally awesome again Lemmo you are the Man.Guitar man.😊🤙
You must be high … lemmo is a horrible guitarist … wake up dude
Great job, Michael, you did that guitar Justice
I saw a photo of the Ventures in a recording session and they were playing these big Gibson jazz boxes. It was disturbing.
The legendary Dottie Rambo also played a Mosrite guitar.
Let’s not forget the double neck Mosrites made famous by Larry Collins from the rockabilly group the Collins Kids and the Country & Western guitar 🎸 slinger Joe Maphis, also known as the “King Of The Strings”. 😌
Beautiful guitar! Thanks folks, brought back a lot of solid memories for me....
Old as dirt lol
Very nice, I've seen four of these they all were 65s👍 kinda having tele with drawls ?
Comes a time that it’s more valuable because Lemmo played it.
Are you kidding?? 😂 please … lemmo a joke
Barry Williams used a Mosrite on an episode of the Brady Bunch. Wonder where that guitar is today.
That one was Green, which was either refinished (likely) or it was a rare custom finish.
As it turns out, that was a rare finish for the Ventures model. I've only heard of the Brady Bunch one, and maybe one other one (unless they're the same guitar.) I'm referring to a fan-made serial number list for the model, one that Max Katzenberger hosts at his site in Germany.
♥
That’s always excellent playing if I could play that good, I’d be famous
Are you serious?? I’ve had students that just picked up a guitar and 2 months in and most are way better than Mr lemmo
@@michbrace2029 not too many play two parts of the song at the same time on guitar
Oh, my gore...😮
I was a fan of The Ventures back in their Fender days but they lost me when they switched to Mosrites and broke out the fuzz boxes.
Don't forget the B-52's and the Ramones. I remember when these guitars were dirt cheap in pawn shops. Everybody wanted a Les Paul or a Strat, then the punk thing happened and they suddenly became the holy grail
In addition to Buck Owens & Presley owning the Ventures Mosrite. Buck had one in red, white & blue while Presley owned one in red sparkle.
Everyone at Norman's is losing weight and looking hot! Here in Canada we appreciate it, good looks and being fly is what Canada is all aboot!
Lemmo is so good! I loved that GOTD! Who’s with me?
He can playing anything and everything.
Lemmo is Norms cash machine. I hope, he pays him good commission.
These are "5 note" tunes and he couldn't even learn the 5 notes! 🙄
@@eddieholmes3236 He couldn't play these simple tunes!
@@shazam6274 It's called *"changing the approach on purpose"* to be different and not a carbon copy. He's *doing it on purpose* to avoid sounding boring to people who already know the original. He knows his way around a guitar well enough to play them, but a copy isn't bringing anything new to the table unless it's a precise tutorial, and this isn't a tutorial.
Very cool.
Part of my guitar 'upbringing' was my Sister buying The Colorful Ventures in '61 when i was 4.
I wasn't even in kindergarten but remember Bob Bogle with his SB JazzMaster and Don Wilson with a SB Strat. Knew i had to play guitar.
Rock ON!!
Another Pacific Northwesterner here. My Mom and her brother and Nokie were friends since they all were teenagers.
The signed pickguard gives this guitar that extra sound. For sure, lol.
That Sharpie tone.😂
@@joermnyc Yeah! That famous black Sharpie tone 🤣
I wanted one of these so bad. I have a play with the Ventures album. It’s how I learned my first songs. And Pipeline was the first. I always thought that the neck pickup was mounted correctly. I helped to balance the tone. What a great guitar.
Norman’s Surf Guitars.
This guitar makes me think of Kurt Cobain. He used to play Mosrites. I think Kurt was a Canadian at heart ❤️, a real Canadian like me. I'll go and listen to Bieber Justin now. Jere in Canada we love and adore Bieber Justin...
Did you comment this before or after playing hockey with a moose?
@@TylerJohnstonGuitar I am actually playing hockey right now, while typing this message. No problem for a real, authentic Canadian! Hockey, maple syrup and Justin Bieber is all I care about🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Kurt did not play Mosrites that much. He had 2, but the one that *could* have been on Nevermind (a Gospel variant of the Mosrite Ventures Mark V model) was supposedly stolen from him in February 1991. Kurt mostly played Univox Hi Flyers early on, which are Japanese semi-copies of Mosrite Ventures models that don't actually copy the tone - they're their own thing.
play some ramones 1234 ...oh and my shirt size is large
Hey Lemmo, give us a demo! 🤣
Johnny Ramone, Ricky Wilson
How many caught the 3 shades of black by hank William's 3rd?
Great guitar and great playing.
The first chord is a minor.
I have a Mosrite that I bought while in the Navy In San Diego in 1967. It plays incredibly well. I love it better than any of the 33 guitars that I own. Thanks for the video.
Only 33? 😂
Your looking great Norm 👍🏻👍🏻
❤
I listened to The Ventures growing up, my dad loved them. Pipeline was one of the first songs I learned to play. Sonic Smith of the MC5 played a Mosrite which I always thought was cool.
Underrated guitars, Made in Bakersfield California. The pickups are great.
Really nice looking and sounding instrument. They did a great job with that sunburst finish.
Love that guitar!!!! 😻😻😻 I really enjoyed hearing Michael play it as well. 👍👍👍
Somebody call the 🚒 to put out that 🎸 cause it's on 🔥!
Why doesn’t Lemmo do his homework and learn vintage guitar history?
Wow!
I've been in love with these things for a long time. I may have a Univox model soon but one of these originals would be so sweet.
King of the looper
On the 08/27/1960 Beech-Nut show with Dick Clark with the Ventures performing Walk don't Run were playing Fenders. Lead was on Lemo's fav guitar, vid on the tubes. Dubbed for tv ? maybe, Paid to endorse Fender ? maybe
Good call man … you are correct
I own a 1971 Mosrite Mark I. I think by 1971 they were not called Mark 1 anymore but it is essentially the same guitar.
LOL...as simple as that song is...he's..playing it wrong...Not talking about his ...improvisation part..
Is Michael doing ok? I know this is a yr old video but he just looks down. Hope all is well
THAT MOSY HAS A REAL STING IN ITS TAIL, BRILL VID GUYS A LORA MEMS THANKS.
“Whoever that was” lmao
I remember playing one of these in the 80s the action was not so good as compared to Fenders of the day.
Fun thing is, the action can always be tuned up on any git. I have a Teisco that was ready for the bin until I worked it, and now it's gonna be buried with me.
I get it, I have a Silvertone /Daneletrro masonite unit with amplifier case deal that someone previous to me did the best fret job imaginable and it plays like butter. Hard to keep tuned but fun as hell to play. I see tuner upgrade soon. @@kellygrant3074
How do you mean that the action "wasn't so good?" 1960s Mosrites are supposed to allow some of the lowest action any guitar can have, and I own a 66 model (not this model.) I can put the higher strings so ridiculously close to the fretboard, that it's a wonder why I can do it without fret buzz.
Glad to hear yours is a good player. The one I played back in the 80 probably needed a set up. Action was pretty high and could not bend notes very well and the sustain OK. Haven't played one in years since.
Good Day!@@101Volts
@@anthonyrichard461 If the one you played said "Avenger" on it anywhere, it wasn't a USA-Built model. But it may have not been that way, only jus tin need of a set-up. The note bending is kind of normally difficult on the 1960s spec models, being that those ones have low fretwire that's not very rounded (crowned) on the top. The 1960s spec fretwire is usually flat. They made the fretwire taller starting in the early 1970s.
Did you sell it?
Totally AWESOME Michael 💜 good JOB-- appreciate the Hendrix SONG freedom :re ; TRUE freedom is Liberty: Romans 10 9-13 ❤
Not only does the Mosrite have an incredibly awesome sound but looks darn sexy to boot. Another good thing it's got going for it is it's versatility. It's adaptable to a wide range of genres. Just can't say enough good things about it. If I could have only one guitar, the Mosrite would be THE ONE! 😂😅😅😅😅
Micheal is a bless !!!!
Made in a small factory in SoCal. in the 60's by Semie Moseley and Co.....Johnny Ramone had a few..
Who would let that car go for £1,800?? That’s nuts!
Run don’t walk to NRG’s. You know what you want but he has what you need.
Lemmo turned that thing into a "Shadowrite" 😏
The Mosrite has a special sound.
Surfer Michael!
6:27 Chocobo time !
👍✌❤😎
Lemmo you nailed it ! Fantastic job ! Thank you Norm and Jen !
Wow, every so often you guys do something that really touches my heart. Thanks Mike, Jen, and Norm. I’m sitting here on my couch playing the 60 Strat along with you and I’m 15 all over again dreaming of being a real Guitar Player. Thank Guys ! 🎸
I’ll never forget being ten years old and hearing these tunes for the first time! Which is when I new what I wanted too do in life! Thanks for bringing back old memories Lemmo! Awesome guitar work! Great video Jen!
Michael putting the guitar through its paces‼️ Nice job 👍✌️☮️
I’m 70 today... so that was Incredible 😁 because I can’t spell Orsum
Very cool guitar and very cool playing from Lemmo. 😀
Beautiful guitar, I adore Mosrite’s.
Lemmo as precise as always!❤
Norm, Mike, I hope to meet you sometime!
Nice good guitar, nice tone , love it and the channel, don’t have the money to pick up this caliber of guitars thuogh, lol maybe some day lol thanks lemo and Norman. Thanks BigAl California
Then check out Hallmark Guitars instead. $1,000 will get you a guitar close to this, including the case. Specifically the Hallmark 65 Custom model, which is a bolt on. If you want a Set Neck, go for the 60 Custom model instead. Both models are very close tonally, but they're not the exact same. (Potted Pickups vs. original non potted, 24.75 scale vs. 24.50", alder body instead of basswood body, etc.)
Yes, how did I miss this one yesterday?
Still prefer Chantays version, tho...
He doesn't play Ramones next, right?
I don't know how many people would want this just because it's signed and don't give a crap WHO the band is,
What’s that first song that Lemmo plays? I love it!
Something a beginner could come up with in 5 minutes
@@michbrace2029 That was not my question and your comment is simply rude.
It's "Walk, Don't Run" which was popularized by The Ventures in 1960. I don't think they wrote it, though.
@@101Volts Thank you so much 🙏🏼
@@matteospqr86 Sure thing. The Ventures were a popular *instrumental* group (not strictly a "surf music band") that formed in North America in the later 1950s. They had an incredible number of albums, but most of their popularity is in Japan. If I understand right, they were like The Beatles to Japan. Maybe that's not the best way to say it, but I can't imagine they're far off.
God BLESS You --- in your every endeavor "MICHAEL" ... Always give GOD the GLORY...pure guitar - playing -- thankyou 💜
I had one. My first electric guitar. A 65 sunburst like this one. Sold it for $200 to buy my 67 Gibson ES 345.
A real shame. These are very simple, yet iconic tunes with very few notes and Lemmo couldn't even learn and play them! Also don't know how he managed to make this thing sound so "tinny" and "janky". It may by a '65 guitar, but the signature near the neck is Gerry McGee, who took over for Nokie Edwards on lead in 1968. 😒
Play some Ramons
That would be cool too. 👍
Yep, the late Johnny Ramone played these.
It's definitely a great guitar for punk rock with its hot pick-ups. @@joermnyc
@@joermnyc Not this model, though. Johnny mostly played the 1965 Ventures II ("Slab Body" version) model, which was manufactured from May - August 1965 before being discontinued in early or mid August.
