Timberking 1220 Sawmill Log Stops Upgrades

It's no joke, I work this little Timberking way harder than it probably should be. Not to say that I use it all that often, but it seems like it's almost always with a log that's on the top end of what it can handle. That means I'm wrestling the log around with straps and chains, and frequently it gets hung up on the log stops, and then bends them. Ever since I've owned it I've been just "getting by" with one or two least-bent stops. It's to the point that it's dangerous and counterproductive. So now we are going through and repairing and replacing ALL the log stops! This will give me much more control of the log, and more options on how to position various odd pieces. I can't wait to throw another big monster on here and see how they do!

Just some thoughts on the Timber King 1220 log rests and clamps.
1. They are very poorly designed. Being made out of 1/4 x 2 bar stock makes them VERY weak.
2. The screw clamp could have been replaced with one with an Acme thread for quicker clamping.
3. The cam clamps are poorly designed and are difficult to use. I did the following to make the cam clamps work easier and better;
First I cut off the handle from the cam. Then I rotated the cam 90 degrees and welded the handle back on so that the handle is parallel to the bunks when the cam is fully extended toward the log. In welding the handle back on I also angled the handle away from the clamp support bar by about 15 degrees so that the handle isn't right up against the bar. It worked great.

Those are awesome tips on the cam clamps. It does aggravate me when I can’t clamp it because it’s flush against the brace.

Put a brick under each stop to lift out of the mud. I'm going to build some 6" stops to run inside the tall ones for smaller logs.

Yeah that makes good sense! I’m hoping to get mine mounted on top a trailer soon. This working bent over nonsense is for the birds!
