Try to find a popcorn vending machine that drops the cup,pops the popcorn,and then puts the topping on. I have only found one near Detroit MI,and have not ever seen one again. I figure if Japan doesn't have one I will never find one again.
The "nixi" tubes were used in the very first electronic calculators, way before lcd-screens somewhere at 70's. Those vending machines must be like 50 years old, and still functioning ! Quite impressive and a testament to japanese ability to maintenance their equipment and keep up traditions !

it is nice to see nixie tubes in there natural environment most tube now are repurposed into clocks there are several companies offering clock kits for nixie tubes i myself have a house full of clocks using nixie tubes and numitron tubes .
