- I am continuing my Sussex Border Walk, and following on from the last episode at Pagham in West Sussex, I am walking across Pagham Harbour to Sidlesham Quay where there once stood a grand tide mill.
In 2017, I visited the area with Martin Snow. Here is that related video: • Walks in England: Expl...

Very enjoyable Richard, yet more lovely nature and history. I love the way you narrate and illustrate visually Sussex.
Lovely, peaceful location, Richard. Your excellent choice of music conveyed this tranquility very well.
The terrain on this walk was much different than I'm used to seeing on your excursions. It looked very much like a swamp you would see here In Florida. I was waiting for an alligator to pop out of the brush. Thanks for showing it Richard.
Very enjoyable Richard! It was really interesting hearing how the area has changed so much years from harbor to farmland to wetlands. Loved seeing the photos of the old Mill & hearing it's story. Thanks for showing us the old farmhouses & different buildings.
Btw...I know you were there before people woke, but it almost gave Sidlesham the feel of a ghost town!😅
Brilliant B.E thank you
Lovely! A multitude of shades of unsaturated colours...
Glorious morning walk. What a lovely village and park with the seats. Very informative. Thank you .
That made me want to spend the whole day there. That was glorious!
Beautiful scenery, loved the music xx
Thank you Richard for another interesting video. I know Pagham Harbour, Church Norton and Sidlesham Quay quite well as excellent birdwatching spots so it’s interesting to stop and see them in other ways, lovely houses and beautiful landscape.
Exceptional filming and the marriage between the music and the images from birds to the landscape was spot on. The Tide Mill would have been pretty spectacular too.
Nice video Richard i have been around that area been in the Crab & lobster Pub very nice it was too! very good all around that area for birds any time of the year ,maybe the other side towards Church Norton is better for birds with sightings of Redstart and Black Redstart often seen along with Short Eared Owls in the fields there i have even seen an Osprey perched in a tree there!! also last year was a good year for Cattle Egret as they had a large amount actually breeding there, a very important area for all types of wildlife it is a designated area of importance an SSI,RAMSER, and other designations. thanks Richard
A beautiful walk, the quiet time of day, your voice had a magical quality, I have so enjoyed this portion of the border walk👌👍👍👍👍👍🖖🖖🖖🖖🙋🏼♀️
Stunning views and photography and interesting to hear the history of the area that is now a beautiful backwater and haven for nature.
Another lovely walk and enjoyed the information and nature.Big 👍👍🙂
It's absolutely beautiful there Richard. Like you said, early morning is best as it does get very busy. If you are lucky enough to be there in summer as the tide is coming in, you can see shoals of large Mullet coming in with the tide.
Thank you Richard for another very lovely walk! I really enjoy hearing the history of where you walk. It is surprising that agriculture could take place there, but then of course the sea took over. I live near Cape Cod Massachusetts and the coastline is always changing due to the power of the Atlantic Ocean.
Terrific Scenery and a complete change of environment. My mother was born at Almodington/Sidlesham and would have known this area as a young girl.
Great Richard, I would like to go to this place looks lovely and peaceful, some lovely old buildings in the village, and it's great some of the old mill is still there, a good piece of old history, I do love reeds they come in many different colours and sizes and your right about the many animals in their natural habitats in there's frogs ect.
Thank you Richard, for such an interesting exploration of a part of West Sussex that I have never visited - it is now on my list of "Places to Visit"
Beautiful walk and filming, thanks Richard :)
Thank you again for getting more of the border walk done. Very interesting, with such good cinematography, editing, presenting, music: real quality.
Interesting walk today thanks
Another excellent video Richard. Thankyou for showing us around
Loverly peaceful place richard thanks again for doing to great videos.
Thanks 👍
That’s such a lovely walk. What beautiful area. 👍🏻
Beautiful in every respect Richard. Until the Epidemic I walked this area with our local group so am pleased to think it is still there patiently awaiting our return. Thank You.
When I lived in Guildford I visited Pagham on numerous occasions 'for the birds'. I managed to identify 70 species between 1988 and 2011. There was a visitor centre which told you about the history of the area and how it has changed over the centuries. It is an idyllic spot and doesn't seem to have changed in the last 10 years. Looking forward to following you on your walk around the Sussex border. You've taken on quite a challenge.
Thanks so much.
What a stunner! Beautiful filming, thank you Richard.
That was good interesting to watch and old village harbour like old mills factorys round place just hope start traveling more soon with new van thack you
This was excellent Richard! Wonderful photography and music, as well as being informative. Beautiful place. Thank you.
nice !
Always interesting, Richard
A breath of fresh air as always Richard, always look forward to watching you after my nightshift 😊
Terrific video Richard. The cinematic quality is appreciated. The bleak terrain is beautiful in the early light. I am really loving this series.
Many thanks!
Really enjoyable. I live north of the downs and must pass all this gorgeousness on my way to Bracklesham Bay. I obviously need to explore more, this area looks fabulous for my photography outings. Thank You Richard 👍😁
Black headed (Zit) gulls actually dark chocolate brown. Salt marsh is precious and needs protecting wherever it is. Great video as ever.
Another first class video Richard, thank you!
Absolutely wonderful, I know this area well and have walked there many times. Part of your walk was along the route of the old Selsey Tram, the dodgy old railway from Chichester to Selsey - another interesting investigation to be had! Pagham Harbour and Sidlesham are beautiful areas an on my doorstep, which is great.
Great video. Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
Very enjoyable, even felt tranquil and less rushed than some of your videos, well done.
What a great video Richard. Interesting to see what nature reclaimed and staying as a conservation area.
Very good Richard. Scenery reminds me very much of the Wash in East Anglia, totally different in another way as that was partly man made with the draining of the Fens.
That’s a beautiful place Richard. What a shame the old tide mill isn’t still there in a preserved state.
I have just read Tidelands by Phillipa Gregory set in Selsey, Sidles ham, Chi Chester in 1700s very interesting description of Seal Island as a marshy land.
Sounds like a great book.
We have a lot of black thorn and hawthorn kn the forest school sight we set up in our village. The blackthorn was beautiful yesterday. I just had to add it to the VLOG
Richard Keep up the good work
Richard, what an excellent video, this seems to me to be an ideal spot to carry out some sunrise photography. I have already noted a vantage point just to the right of the Sindlesham Mill Information board, so capturing the waterway flowing NNW to SE. I will be there in just 5 weeks time on one of my annual photo safaris.
David
You will love it there!
THIS SERIES IS GROWING IN STATURE RICHARD......
ON THE BORDER (verse 27 of ???)
Sparse' populated Sidlesham
leaves space for crops to grow
Its fertile flat lands under glass
producing row on row
That sense of rare tranquility
down by the water's edge
Allows for trusting wildlife
to multiply and fledge JB21
Nice one!
I'm late watching this. I was busy with with church yesterday.
Keep a note of the Blackthorn...they eventually produce sloe berries...for sloe gin!
Looks like a unique area with many natural points of interest. I also admired some very old buildings. Thanks for the video, very entertaining.
Superbly filmed - pagham harbour and the manhood peninsula are like another world aren’t they?
'Ne're cast a clout until the may be out', as in you will need your coat until the hawthorn is in bloom.
Lovely place, big skies, great for birding I guess.
Siddlesham to Selsea island had a ferry Sea archaic means Island as in Battersea/Chelsea
Beautifully shot, fascinating video Richard, don't you just love England!
I think you have hit a new high. The whole video was to the highest standards and enormously enhanced by the music. Very interesting and very nice viewing.
Thank you Richard for today's interesting walk and video. I wonder if the person who invested in and built the tide mill tried to stop the closing of the harbour, because it must have greatly affected his business and the local economy!
Hi Richard, I know it’s too late, but you did walk down some of the old Selsey Tramway. You might have mentioned that when you were with Martin but I lack in memory cells nowadays. Nice video though, thank you.
Thanks for the info!
Blackthorn still in bloom at Beltane indicates wet summer
Thank you - very nice scenery, do you retrace your walk back to the van or return a different way? Just wondered 🤔
I usually retrace my walk back in case there are extra shots to take that I missed the first time round.
🙂
