Comedy has always been the way we all tell uncomfortable Truths about each other and ourselves in a way that makes us laugh which breaks down the walls and creates understanding.
It's why the people who want us fighting went after comedy right away.
There's really only two choices for a diverse country: we laugh at each other's and our own quirky cultural manifestations which creates understanding and cooperation between groups and challenge in our own or we're all in conflict because of them because each group holds on to the quirky cultural behavior like it's an Idol, a false god that we'll die to protect.
As a white kid from rural Michigan I watched "American Me", and a few months later we moved to southern Cali'. I think I cried the 1st time I was sent out to play. Happy to say that ignorance doesn't stand up to proximity. Great vids Shaq!

This was the first show of Burrs I saw about 15 years ago that turned me into a huge fan.
I listen to his podcast daily, it was much more entertaining years and years ago, but it's still
worth listening to especially if you go back to his older episodes before he blew up and got
a little too busy with his career and family to put as much effort into it.

Bill burr is one of the greatest standups of modern times. It's a shame so many guys from the era he started in have passed away because it really was an all star cast of characters. They're all so much funnier than the new guys that are big right now. Guys like Patrice oneal would dominate today. I've seen this bit a dozen times or so and this reaction was the most enjoyable. As a white kid who grew up in a small Utah town in the 80s and 90s, I can relate to the lack of understanding...that was until I watched Chris Rock stand-up for the first time. After that I started paying attention and found that Hip-Hop, BET, and other black culture were more relatable to me than white culture. Black culture resonated with me, and I never completely understood why.
Looking back, I think the reason I was drawn to black culture over my own was because we shared the same social class. We were so poor that we couldn't afford a Christmas tree when I was in highschool. Remember Fresh Prince's parents just don't understand? I know what it's like to really be hungry...
I couldn't relate to the violence, but I was 16 when my 14 year old sibling was in rehab for cocaine, my biological father bailed when I was born, and so many other black stereotypical jokes that you hear ring true to my past.
Anyways, when I hear someone say something racially ignorant, my advice is to watch a good stand-up comedian and pay attention. For example, if you want to know the truth about what it's like being black in the US, watch Katt Williams. He has huge audiences with maybe "three or four" white people attending.
When he tells a joke about how hard it is as a black man in America, you'll notice that the entire place erupts with laughter and acknowledgement. That's thousands of people verifying the truth. TRUTH
Dave Chappelle is a better story teller but he has a LOT of white people in his audiences and I feel like sometimes his audience laughs because he's funny, but a lot of things go over their heads. That being said, Dave Chappelle bases all of his comedy on truth and I watch every video I can get my hands on that has him in it.
This is a really long comment but I wanted to give some context before saying that I think this reaction is more powerful than anyone realizes. It exposes a lot of truth and brings people together, instead of fostering division like everything else does.

hey bro, that is great stuff. The best is your reaction, I am 50 but used to work in Harlem as a paramedic in NYFD for 6 yrs. The people there were some of the best I ever met. I saved a son from cot death one time in the '90s and mothers around the neighborhood brought me dinners for months. They were awesome cooks. I could of went to an easier station in 2.5 years but chose to stay until I made sergeant. I loved the people there. They were like family since I was single. They trusted me to come by the staion and help with there kids when I was off. I look back on it know as the best part of my life. so far.
