      I do not think there are numbers on this WR room. i think we should all look at them multiple. I think the best thing about these past 2 classes is no WR is locked into a type. Chis is a stud inside and out and probably the most dangerous slot wR in the NFL today when he lines up there. Just ask the Bears what they think of Chis in the slot for proof of that. Doubs is probably the most locked into the outside WR spots but he will slide inside a good amount moving forward. The best thing about this class is there are no sure things for defenses to lock into to defend us. I think Reed is not a slot. While he can and will play a lot of it he is a complete WR with outside dominance in his film study. Musgrave and Kraft can also play slot. This team is so much better at skills positions than it has been in decades. We have TEs who can play anywhere and all the WRs can play every spot.

    With as high as some analysts were on Anthony Johnson, I don't think many people would be upset if the Packers drafted him in the 5th instead of Clifford. And if we get Clifford in the 7th, then all is well. So at the end of the day, they got the players they needed.

    Great review! I agree with this as an A draft. Too many reviews don't take into account the average draft is 7 picks. Having 13 is great, so you can take some questionable picks like the QB and K. Most of the picks were solid value from the consensus board, so that was good to see, also. Ted Thompson had an ethos of leaving no stone unturned and finding guys no one else knew about, but Gutie seems to be more of a mainstream guy with a couple of hidden gems.

  • @gregginter5867
    @gregginter5867 Рік тому +2

    As a former teacher, I'm accustomed to grade values. Per your assessments, the numerical values of your individual grades totalled 38.25 pts ÷ 13 guys = 2.94 average. That equates to just under a 'B', so let's call it that! [key: A/4, B/3, C/2, D/1 n F/O]. Another GB podcaster assessed a similar A-grade but he only values R1-3 for roster building! I admired your grade break-outs for all 13 pics. Like you, I agreed, both the QB n K picks were UDFA values (I actually triggered back to the disasterous Will Harrel R1 pick yrs ago! Absolutely top-3 all-time worst R1 pick in GB hx!) Imo, Gutes was on his way to hitting a home run. All he had to do was fall back upon typical high-value/RAS OTs, OGs, WRs or even select all-world perfect RAS TE Kuntz n he'd of established an NFL top draft! Imo opinion (boosted by your detailed analyses), GB attained 38pts or 2.923 ave. Technically, a B- but we're now at the hand grenade/horse-show comparison. Just understand that your opined #'s = a B grade! Since Gutes' last 3 gradeable drafts post-3 yr reviews = D, D+ n C-, it's apparent that he's improving! And, except for S Vernon Scott, all 2022 picks remain on the team but have 2 more yrs to marinate into final grades. I suspect a few of the '22 picks will be let go this yr. Ty for your detailed analyses n I hope my rationale assists you in future grade assessments!

    • @s.strong4233
      @s.strong4233 Рік тому +1

      That would be correct on a grading scale where each pick is viewed as equal in determining the grade but that just isn’t how it works in an NFL draft. Your higher selections are weighted more. So your rationale doesn’t apply here.

    • @aaiirssjoy
      @aaiirssjoy Рік тому

      Carter would’ve been immense value. Yeah he would’ve been a project player but he’s an ARMY GUY and not just that but a TALENTED one with fluid movement skills. Of course he’s gonna put the work in to get stronger and put on weight - idk why so many teams passed on him when plenty of players in later rounds or even earlier are project players themselves that take a year or two to begin really producing.
      We could afford Carter too since we are in a rebuild anyway so we aren’t rushing for a SB this or next year anyway. He would’ve also complimented the huge height thresholds we have at EDGE but difference being that he would’ve been a speed rusher which is STILL an element we are missing.

    I'm not thrilled with the Van Ness pick. There were quality Edge prospects available into the 5th round. The Bengals got an identical quality player in the late 20s in Myles Murphy. I wish they would have traded up for one of the top T prospects or traded down for more quality picks. Edge was not the biggest need this year. The ammo could have been used elsewhere. Regarding QB, not thrilled with picking Clifford, but prior to #12's first year as a starter the Packers went with Brian Brohm in the 2nd and Matt Flynn in the 7th. So my problem isn't that they went QB, it is that they went with a QB that I don't think can be a quality NFL starter. But who knows.

    Sometimes I wonder if Brian Gutekunst would still have a job had Aaron Rodgers not carried the team those first three or four years of Gutekunst's tenure. He gets tremendous value in certain rounds yet has these complete brain farts in multiple rounds and picks almost every draft. When the Packers selected Sean Clifford in the fifth round and Carlson in the sixth, I was like pulling my eyebrows out because the selections made absolutely no sense from the perspective that they could have been acquired as undrafted free agents. They just weren’t that impressive, either.

  • @aaiirssjoy

    I think Colby has the ability to actually play the 5 tech position in ways Lowry couldn’t. He has long arms (Lowry didn’t) and has a quick first step along with lateral agility as well as violent striking hands. As long as they don’t ask him to take on double teams and play him with a guy like Slaton next to him, he could be played out wider which should help our pass rush get better while staying stout against the run as Colby gets stronger.
    As for Brooks, he should be a high end rotational player overtime that will probably be more of a rush specialist that will get more snaps against weaker running teams so he can just be let loose.
    I really just hope Slaton takes that leap as the go-to NT because he does offer pass rush ability too. He’s just a mammoth of a man. We could end up with a top 5 defensive line if these guys progress and realize their potential. Time for us to dominate the trenches !! 😤

    Your eval of Clifford is way off. You sound like you wanted them to try to draft another starting QB - that is not what they were doing. They were drafting a backup QB. These are two different things and its wonderful that the Packers have figured this out.
    What you want in a backup quarterback is someone who is 1) comfortable in the pocket 2) has a lot of experience 3) has played under pressure and taken hits 4) has experience leading players and, 5) has had reasonable success. This kid checks all those boxes. He will be ready to be a reasonable backup come week 1. I expect this to be one of the best picks of the Packer's draft.

This is a whole different year from those past. Love isn't pushing for vets and the Packers have no money so what you see is what you got. Sean Clifford over the likes of JK Skinner...only a true genius GM says I will take a guy that even Penn St fans don't want.....they were just preying for this guy to leave! But hey, once we sign 13 new players we are on our way! Only my fellow Packer fans are patient, loyal and trusting enough to love a GM who ran one of the greatest WR's in Packer history and one of the best QB's in NFL history out of town! And then flip that to an Inside LB an old average DT, & then yes Watson but we all would have taken him instead of Wyatt and still had 2 second picks! It is easy to be a GM when you inherit an NFL MVP at the most important position in football. I hate that he ruined our shot at an Lombardi and messed up with his arrogant "I am smarter then everyone" drafting and it will screw us for another 7-9 years. FIRE BG!!!

      Packer fans are weirdos on stuff. Packers take a QB in the 5th round, he was the last draft able QB on their board. He also plays the most important position on the team. He also beat out Wil Levis for the QB at Penn State. His 2021 tape is better. So if Love gets hurt, and the team has no QB Packer Weirdo fans will bitch, why didn't u draft one.

    I didn't like the picks too much. The Jayden Reed hype train has left the station for real tho. I would have rather seen the pack JSN in round 1 then D washington TE then Banks at safety in round 2. I think Reed would have fallen to round 3. idk I would give this overall draft a C+ score so its a pass but if these players dont pan out in major ways that score will drop fast.

      Apparently, TE Wash had some existent knee issues but am unclear why they didn't take him! Every team in the draft should've gobbled up perfect 10-RAS TE Kuntz since he was the 220th pick! Would you have been happier w/ Kuntz at 207 vs our UDFA kicker? I definitely would have...at that late in the draft, it'd have been a steal! Btw, K Carlson got benched mid-season last yr by an 18yo freshman due to erratic performance! I truly hope the K already buried on our depth chart beats him out!

    Clifford was the last "draftable" QB on GB's board according to Gutey. I'll take GB's track record on QBs over your's or any other laughingstock on the internet. PS, Gutey said they brought him in to help the QB room, not start, so the parameters that you and everyone else are judging this man on do not apply. You clearly did NOT listen to the press conferences. Your grade is "F"

    Kinda bias or homerish.
    Considering that two of the picks are already injury prone and limited play time.
    Honest grade:
    C+ at best.
    And a kicker at 6? Wtf? Pick them up undrafted not with a 6th round pick. Yet they waste that pick and still draft a pile of players undrafted…
    Make that make sense

      @@bandzdmv also a star player dexter Lawrence was on the board as well. He would have been a much better player for the last 4 years than Gary with the packers, imagine Clark, Lawrence, and the smith's rushing the passer. Instead it's freaking rashan Gary who hasn't had a 10 sack season and packers fans want to celebrate the pick. I like Gary but after this knee injury we really don't know what he is.

    “A little bit to develop” the Packers may have had some success as a draft and develop team early under TT but we need to stop with that right now. This team has struggled drafting, especially in the 1st round and especially on defense. They keep picking defense and they don’t have much to show for it.

      What are we supposed to do, trade all our picks away? If you search it up, we are on of the best 1st round drafters. Not having much to show for it can be for different reasons such as coaching. Many of the picks on defense were literal needs because of the lack of players on defense

    Packers making stupid drafts again. They already have a defense. Gary and the 2 Georgia guys from last year draft plus other veterans. They need other areas. Could have picked a top tier QB, TE, etc. But once again lets not go offense. Lets not help Jordan Love. One you did go all in for offense, you picked the dud Love instead of WR for Rodgers. Idiots!!!! Packers upstairs are creatures of habit. Im glad my guy Aaron went to Jets, Im glad few Packers followed him. Im glad Jets got the best TE draft for Rodgers. Thanks Packers. You finally unofficially helped draft a stud offensibe player for Rodgers.
