I really admire your tenacity, just think how long that floor has been too difficult for anyone else to tackle, and there you are, working at it without complaining. You are doing what a few generations thought wasn't possible, or just too hard, love it. 👍❤
A lot of work went into this episode. You guys have come so far . Look forward to seeing more progress. Thanks for including us in your journey in Portugal.
You guys are lucky to have such plentiful water where you are. I love seeing that you took the dogs out for a walk. It was nice to see that you both got away from the house too. The dogs love it there.
What an epic week, you got through loads. It's amazing how much building materials went into two skips, and that's just on the surface of the walls mostly, huge. Great job, both of you put in an awesome push to get that skip full.👍❤
Thanks for your vid 😇💟💟💟 Love and bless you guys good work, next time you don't have to take out the water from the Skip it will go in between of the stones.
Blimey, you've shifted some stuff over the past couple of episodes, you're machines!! Bet it feels great to shift that rubble? If you're desperate to fill those sacks up, we've got plenty of stuff to go in them at ours 😜😆😆 although I might have to get the details of your skip company instead 👍 Keep up the good work - Stu
Thanks Stu 😊 you'll have to let me know if you do need their details...and you're more than welcome to some spare sacks! It feels great to have got rid of it all. Have a good one 😊
6.7 tonnes! Wow!! All loaded by hand by you two! Holy smokes, you guys rock. Geeeezzz... if you are rendering back, that's how much materials you will have to use. Plus all the other previous loads, of course. WoW!! How much do they charge for a load like that? Kudos! fantastic meticulous work, as always. What do the village people think of all your hard work?
Thanks so much 💛 it was around €370 with all the right paperwork. Wanted to make sure it was disposed of properly! A lot of the locals slow down and have a good look and wave. Our neighbours who used to own the house are here at the moment (live in Lisbon most of the time) and love catching up on what we're doing. A privilege to be bringing their family home back to life! 😊
My grandfather was a rock mason. The only time he used metal pipe or straps in a wall was to stabilize or bind rocks or sections of rock together, so they did not move. If he wanted to make sure plaster adhered, he used wire or bands that created a type of spike that connected rock/s to the plaster. Not sure how the builders of your wall typically incorporated metal, but I suspect the principles of use were generally the same.
Interesting. Thanks so much 😊 they don't seem to be providing any support to the walls (we do have ties in the walls elsewhere) so it would seem to be something to do with the plaster definitely. Thanks again!
When you started breaking up the rock with your pick I was waiting for you to stop and say this is too hard I need to hire a jackhammer - but you didn’t! You just kept going. This is a man who is not shy of hard work. I may have missed something, but have you explained why you are taking all the render off everywhere? It looks to me as though it’s an integral part of those walls and is helping to hold them up. Anyway all the best to you both and those lovely doggos.
Thanks so much 😊 I thought the same when I was editing the video! The render is old cement render so is trapping moisture in the walls. We will repoint all of the walls to stabilise them 😊💛
Greetings cousins! I’m sitting here relaxing in Palm Springs watching you guys bustin ass on your project and I’m thinking maybe I should get up and sweep the patio or something .I’m just kidding, it’s going to be 86 degrees here today so I won’t be sweeping anything 😂 Anyway, good video and great progress again this week. I don’t know if you have mentioned in the past, but are you going to put new render on all the walls, or point them? Keep up the great work, best wishes always, Moody😎
Moody! Always a pleasure 😊 Definitely don't be doing anything in that heat... I can recommend a cold beer though! It was supposed to be similar here today but we had sand blowing in from the Sahara which kept the sun out! 😅 We'll probably point a lot of the walls. Depends what we can do for the underground walls as well. Have a good weekend!
I think those iron rods were meant to keep the cement on the outside wall. I bet that floor is made out of granit,so hard to dig The dogs were happy to run Besides the river. I would have drilled a hole in the skip to drain the water. After filling the skip they won't see it...
Should have siphoned the water out of that skip with a bit of hose pipe. Fair play to the pair of you, you work like dogs, you have way, way more gumption than me.
You should change the channel name: Tenacity postcard from Portugal… Do you pay for the weight of the rubble you are evacuating or the volume? In that last case why bothering with the water? It will be absorbed by the rubble.
@@PortugalonaPostcard A tarp may be considered to protect the rubble from the rain. I enjoy your progress and I am surprised how the house (initially not my first choice...) is getting beautiful.
Absolutely! It's the bedrock so we'll still have a solid stone floor but as Michael said, we need to make it level mainly due to head height 😊 we also need to consider damp due to it being the bedrock 👍🏻
We will do where possible but we've been reluctant to use any around the walls/floor in case it destabilises or damages anything. There's also something about working with our hands like the original builders will have done 😊 thanks so much for watching!

Thanks so much. We are really lucky! 💛
I honestly don’t know what you have for breakfast to sustain such a work ethos 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 INCREDIBLE PROGRESS AND SO SO SO SO SO TIDY TOO ✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅
Thanks so much 💛💛💛
I'm really enjoying your videos! There is a poetic beauty to your property. Good luck with your works. I'll be following 😊

It's amazing isn't it! I'd have never thought there was so much 😅 thanks again 💛
So much work and progress once again in this video! Congrats on your inspiring positivity, patience and sense of humor!

Thanks so much 💛💛 have a wonderful weekend!!
Adorable le chat
😻
I gather I am way behind the times but it is still good to see all the areas getting cleaned up. Great effort. Hard yakka but well worth the result.
Thanks so much 😊

Michael - has anyone told you how much you look like Thomas Ramos - the French rugby star!? 😁
Haha 😅 not had that one before! The fact he's nearly half Michael's age has gone down well though 😉
You need a pump for that skip!!
We do!! 😅

Yeah I think you're right 😊 haha! Good idea... we'll remember that for next time. Thank you.

😅 thank you!! I am considering changing Michael's name to do Mike the Machine! 🤣 Yes we had to pay for the weight. 😊

Thank you 😊 that's lovely to hear!! It really is beautiful ❤️
Why would anyone want to remove a solid stone floor? That would be something to keep.
Absolutely! It's the bedrock so we'll still have a solid stone floor but as Michael said, we need to make it level mainly due to head height 😊 we also need to consider damp due to it being the bedrock 👍🏻
Um how about a Jackhammer?
We're having to be really careful not to disturb the stonework ☹️
You need safety glasses
Thank you 😊
You are doing and amazing job but Wouldn’t it be better if you were to invest in to power tools?! You are working yourself to the bone.
