    this is some serious hobby gear, would surely fill in some rainy days..if only real life was so precise.

    I was working on a millionaire client's custom railroad. He'd bought one of these for the container port we were modeling. Since I'd already laid an "asphalt" surface over the port area, I just wired up two 30" parallel rails to fit the crane's gauge, and away we went. I have to admit I was surprised when it all worked flawlessly. The only thing you may have to do is pry apart your existing container collection and add iron/steel strips so the electromagnet can pick them up.

    It looks very good I see Dyserth Road has one or two installed. They look really good on the videos from there as well. Bearing in mind at about 4:45 I think Health & Safety might have something to say about the speed of the lorries espcially going under a 40ft container at that speed!!! :)

    It would be cool to have it automated by having trains stop there automatically and have a sensor to detect a cargo container then take it off and load a new one in then the train starts up again

    this stuff is great!
    they say it's easy to control with up to 3 cranes which is usefull, if you forget that these cranes cost around €550,00 a piece.
    so having just one of them is allready quite something :P

    beneath the road deck there is a metal guide wire, in the container of the trucks there is motor, on the front axle is a magnet that allows the truck to follow the guide wire.

    It's a trick. It's not really grabbing the containers like the prototype. It uses electro magnets, so you can only pick up containers with weights in them. Still it is a pretty cool model and it's cool that it is DCC. I would want one except on my layout we use the other kind with the rubber wheels like our prototype, Santa Fe uses.

    Хороша игрушка!!!Были бы такие лет 30 назад в моём детстве!
    Только 20f спредером 40f контейнер не взять.
    Но для игрушки это не так важно.

    I've been a longshoreman for 3 years and I've never seen a transtainer with a spreader that rotates before. Seems like it wouldn't be very practical at a real terminal since it could knock down the 3 high stack of cans very easy if the operator was careless or if the spreader stopped too fast causing it to swing into the empty pile.

      i know this is old. but in Austria the cranes in Wolfurt, they actually do rotate. I was actually surprised when i saw this.

    We have morris cranes at work on the rail termanal and they rotate like this, and they must be over 15 years old now so it's no new design.

    These cranes are garbage. Yes, they look amazing and the lighting looks great at night but performance blows. We have one at the model railroad club i belong to and it's become a static display piece because it works for about an hour and then breaks down. We just got sick of fixing it.

      +geert goethals You say that because why?

    • @degust01
      @degust01 8 років тому

      +ZeldaTheSwordsman because it breaks a lot....the threads break often.....saw it happen on many occasions....

    • @ZeldaTheSwordsman
      @ZeldaTheSwordsman 8 років тому

      geert goethals Odd, I wonder why that is.,, are people trying to use it to lift containers they've added weights to? From the sound of the other comments it doesn't seem like an across-the-board issue,
      Still, it seems to me that the threads breaking would be easier to remedy than something like overly-fragile door hinges on an $80 freight car. Thin cable of decent strength may be had cheaply and in good quantity. Fishing wire might do the trick, as might the heavy-duty threads used in upholstery and leatherworking.

    • @ZeldaTheSwordsman
      @ZeldaTheSwordsman 8 років тому

      The Prussian
      That depends on the plastic, though, and can sometimes be prevented through careful use and lubrication.
      But geert specifically talked about the threads, by which I'm guessing they meant the cables of the lift mechanism, breaking.
