A suggestion for anyone who doesn't have a large crochet hook is to use any kind of rigid smooth dowel or rod and attach a loop of string to one end with tape (or whittle a hook if you're ambitious). Make the loop just big enough to easily poke the next section through, without being long enough to interfere with the swoopy twisting motion.
Hi Rebecca, I was surprised at how many ways there are to twist and stretch plastic bags into rope/string. But I think this is the fastest way to spin bags into rope. Thanks for watching. 🙂
Thats so cool! I’m definitely trying this out! I love keeping lots of plastic bags and stuffs thinking or turning them into bags. Thanks for the tutorial ❤
This is the best video because you show how to easily hook it together, and your way is faster compared to other videos I’ve seen. Christmas is coming quicker than you think!
Wow!! Looks like a long, tedious undertaking but also looks like busy work that goes quickly!! Good idle work when watch tv or whatever, & if you have small people ...like 5-15, lol, that complain about being bored...everytime one of us said those words my mom jump up & say "I know the cure for that problem!!!" I swear she had a designated shelf in the closest for boredom, busy work for complaining kids...but an hour here & there when we'd slip & say those words didn't hurt us a bit, taught us several dying skills (like this) & twisted us just enough that when we became parents...darn tooting we all had a shelf/basket/box/list...of the cure for boredom blues!!! God forbid, BUT if we had a grid down, emp, war stuff...here...& We had to be survivalist again....how many people could even do this awesome repurpose but useful product?? Not many, especially when the panic a situation like that would possess a person with...no one can think straight in a panic mode but can do stuff that's like muscle memory like this tenuous, repetitive skill!! Better to have people wrapping twine than freaking out!!! Thanks for the video & ideas though!!! I've definitely got plans to use this method!! It's so simple. No extra steps, machines...wonderful!!!
Thanks for the comment Angie. I do like to keep my hands busy when I am watching TV. A thing I do way too much of probably. It sounds like your mom was a very clever woman. Cheers.
@@UpcycleDesignLab yes, indeed, she was wise beyond my understanding when I had her & a treasure not found easily anymore!!! I've had 16 surgeries that started when I was 14 & the last was 6 yrs ago. I'd have lost my mind if my hands couldn't have been busy when my body had to be still!! I treasure the things she taught me whether for practicality or sanity/coping skills!! I tried to pass some of that on to my kids but I don't hold a candle to her patient teaching ways!!! Most often when still, my hands are still busy but carpal tunnel is catching me fast!! I'm 46, & have no idea how my auntie's where still making tablecloth sized dollies & big quilts when my hands & wrists are feeling the wear & tear!!! I subbed & look forward to seeing all your projects new & old!!!
@@angiebaby1976 Hi Angie - Moms are amazing and I am so fortunate to still have mine. I sorry to hear about your health issues I hope you are able to continue creating. Thanks so much for watching and commenting 🙂
Hi thanks for your question. I would categorize it as very strong it does stretch however and yes you can make it heavier by cutting thicker widths of plastic loops. Thanks for watching 😊
Hi thanks for your question. It definitely depends on how thick you make the rope but I made a video to test this out if you want to check it out. ua-cam.com/video/HqoS5mcep1E/v-deo.htmlsi=TBW1HaHjNytsFKn9
Oh wow,the end result looks great & just like natural colored jute or hemp twine! I hope I can get mine to look this nice, but I ordered a drop spindle specifically to be able to make plarn,& maybe thought I could also try using it 2 twist 2 or more strands of yarn 2gether(to make some of the only kind of yarn in my supply which I prematurely bought & had accumulated a lot of 1st) of w.w.#4 yarn,b4 realizing it takes 2-4 strands of that held together to be thick enuf 4 using on the only looms I had bought at the same time(& they're large-xlg.guage,which I also didn't understand that they would require a #5 or #6 chunky type yarns when I got them too. All I knew was they were the only set for sale at 1 of the only 2 stores where I can afford to buy craft supplies. Plus I was determined to try loom knitting after I watched a few tutorials I learned basic stitches from, since I had already become discouraged when trying 2 learn how to knit or crochet by watching several tutorial videos b4 that 😢),lol...Thank you for showing us how to do this,& hopefully reduce some of the plastic bags going to the landfills or winding up in the oceans...
How fun to have a loom to work on. I hope you will enjoy using it. I learned to knit a little bit but never could figure out crochet. Thanks for watching 😊
A great way to make coiling core for coiled baskets! ❤
Thanks for watching 😊
I knew there was way of doing this without a spinner (I was thinking braiding), but I just needed to find you. Thank you, thank you ❤
Glad I could help! Thanks for watching 😊

I love this way. I’ve been searching for a long time and I think this method seems to be the strongest

Looks easy to make. Love the music!
Thanks for watching. It is really easy once you get the hang of it. It's a great way to keep your hands busy while you're watching TV. 🙂
You’re welcome. Busy hands are hands that can’t reach into the candy dish! 😉
Wow, very interesting! My great-grandmother used to make beautiful padded hangers using upcycled plastic bags like this. 😀

I wonder how much weight this twine could hold
Sorry I don't know the answer to that question but it is pretty strong it will stretch a little bit though
Supb idea I like it
Thank you 😊
Brilliant ❤👏👍
Thanks so much 😊
This is brilliant, thank you! (Seems a shame to use new bags though!)
Thanks 😊
If you don't mind me asking how strong is it and is it possible to make the rope thicker?

Why are you using a crochet hook?
Hi you could twist the bags on any stick but the hook on the crochet hook is used when adding the bag loops together the make the rope longer.
@@UpcycleDesignLab ok thank you
