Steve I am 76 now by watching your videos I get chills up my spine you deserve every penny
Absolutely love your content, Steve!! Thanks for taking the time to record, edit, and upload your stuff!
Miss Molly is looking great! Those rubber coupling are the best, sure beats the old oakum, lead wool, and hot lead joints! Steve is working on a Saturday🎉.
Gotta love those Fernco couplings. They're a lifesaver when you own a 100+ year old house like I do....
I don't know maybe I'm a simpleton but seeing Steve cut that pipe perfectly square seems to be a reflection of four decades of experience.
Steve is amused with himself again. 😂
Belt and suspenders = next level pants retention method.
Hi Steve, Pain in the neck job. I use Diablo blades. They really cut cast iron quickly if you buy the ones for cast iron, They cut quick and you can cut several pipes with the same blade. I think you can buy 6 " or 8" blades. She's a leaker mama,
Those blades are very good cut through cast iron like butter
The best I've used so far. Great product 💯
THey are pricey but worth the money. Charge them to the job. They will save time with less labor@@veeko616
for some reason they can't cut through some cast iron pipes. I've only had trouble cutting through some from I believe was the 80s pipe called truspun. it has little goose bump looking surface. i used the 8tpi and 10 tpi blades and didn't do anything. worked great on all other cast-iron pipes
When you talk to yourself, you never lose an argument! Keep on keeping on Steve!
Definitely went next level on that pipe! Steve is a-workin' again, y'all!
People should clean up their basements and crawlspace. Why live over rotting debris?
No pride.
Perhaps there old ? Medical complications? Kids? Why the fuck do you care how others live? Do you pay there mortgages ? Mind your business
Great video! Why didn't you use PVC for the repair?
my exact thoughts.
I dont think local code allows it for some reason.
ITS NOT UP TO CODE IN THIS BUILDING
Use PVC and spray paint black.... job done! (Joe Homeowner)
ABS pipe black
Thank you Steve 👍
With 3 Jed Clampetts in a row, I thought you'd throw a hanger into the mix. Heard you mumble about it, but I guess you figured it'll hold up. Good enough for this neighborhood.
Steve that old iron pipe was rotten to core! What caused that rot? Acidic drain cleaner maybe for a few decades. Any reason you didn't use ABS pipe? Another fantastic job...
Never a dull moment!
Great Video. Thank you for sharing. That's big job
Another great fix and video Steve, I agree with the comments with the grinder, be safe and keep them video's coming 👍 ☝️💥
nice straight cut
Goofy question Steve. Why not use ABS pipe with replacement? Thank you and appreciate your channel
Actually a good question
Its has to keep it historic look
In my area abs is ok. But I know some areas, must replace with cast iron, union rules.
I saw parking lot lines outside, could be a commercial (or apartment) property. Here in MA cast iron is used on most commercial properties.
ppl that question steve's work ethics ,amaze me the man knows what he is doing. c'mon ppl.
Hey Steve and Miss Molly! Workin’ again y’all. 👍👍 😊. It ain’t easy being cheesy mama.
Pretty awesome video. You were smart to use a grinder to cut most of the pipe then cut the rest with the recip. That absolutely saved you some time. Good work.
Good job Steve, Those hose clamps beat lead and yokem, any day, Nothing wrong talking to yourself, as long as you don't answer all the questions.
Love your videos! You're the real deal, mister! Master plumber you are.
Nothing but quality in that guys place. Working there must be a real pleasure.
What?
@@sly5855 My comment is what some might refer to as " sarcasm "
Best videos on the internet! Waiting for more tractor repairs, and meal prep. Stay safe.
Steve, It looked like it was still leaking where you attached the first Jed Clampett.
We had some rotted cast iron pipe replaced. The pipe was light weight...the leaded joints were heavy! Cutting the cast iron took forever...until the special diamond blade arrived which cut like butter; the huge chain snapper was even more effective.
We replaced our old cast iron drain pipe with PVC
Why not replace it with pvc and a pvc dandy. Isn’t it 10 times cheaper?
@@demetriosa7646 Cast iron is quieter. And in some areas, one can not be alternating several times between PCV and cast iron.
We thought Cast Iron would last longer but my cousin is a plumber and he didn't think so...if the install is well done.
Not per code in some cities/states.
@dhenschel4
You are correct. No one else has mentioned this. It is odd to see the pipe cracked along the top. Perhaps this is where the seam is located during its manufacturing? Or its from resting heavy objects on top of the pipe for years. If the problem is endemic to the pipe then there could be leaks in other sections, places not visible, or places that require excavation.
I’d replace worn sections with solid type ABS DWV pipe and held up with pipe supports about every 4’ apart.
I find it amazing that everyone will wear gloves, face guards and glasses or goggles, but hardly ever see folks wearing a mask.Just blows my mind
You can get cast iron cutting blades for the Sawzall. A bit pricy but they cut cast like butter.
Steve doesn't seem to like spending on specialized tools.
Hi Stive, should pickup few off the Sawzall carbide blades.
I call them brown trout.
😂😂😂
Wrinkle neck brown trout
🤣
Great fish to catch on a fly rod in Vermont.
As always the G.O.A.T does not disappoint.
If only those old Cast Iron pipes could talk! The stories they could tell 😮😮😮. I have a house that was built in around 1870 , fortunately the sewer was upgraded by force before I purchased it when the city had a mandatory upgrade , all new to PVC to the street. The previous owner figured hey my basement is already dug up might as well do all of it.
Five hundred dollar job nice video keep em coming.
Hello Steven
You're a nice guy and you do your job very well
Please please please put a guard on your grinder and be careful because at this angle you almost cut your finger when the pipe fell down
GOD bless you
Hes done this so long and has control of the grinder, he knows what he's doing
you can't put a guard on the grinder when you use those big cutoff wheels like he does. When you know what you're doing you will be fine.
It was almost a painful oops. the wheel hit the rock right by his hand. That move was not intentional... 7:27
@@chrismallory3718
@@billibarouuntil you aren’t
@billibarou you are wrong because if your wheels break your hand ...
Why not replace all of that old cast iron with PVC
in mass you are suppose to replace with what was there....plus you cant use pvc in certain commercial buildings
All that work when all it needed was a good wrapping with flex seal tape.
Great video Steve ! Admired the work.
That’s right you want a intelligent conversation talk to your self that’s the ticket 😊
That stuff is brittle as orangeburg pipe
Miss Molly looks like she needs a trim! As always, as a landlord of many hats myself, I enjoy your adventures and the sh*tshows !
Could pvc pipe have been spliced in to the iron pipe ends instead.?😊
My thought exactly. I replaced part of my old house cast iron stack pipe with PVC.
Lol, the insurance guy again.
That place is a Dump with a capital D
Nice work Steve!
Thanks for the vide. Why not splice in PVC piping ?
How do people not go in there basements? I dont have a finished basement but i go down there at least once or twice a week & just look around & listen to make sure my basement isnt flooding or the beams r not cracking my house is from the 40s so everything is old but in good shape it just baffles me when people basement flood & they find out weeks later 😂
Stever, it’s okay to talk to yourself, it’s when you answer you got problem!!!😅😅
Howdy Steve and Molly
Tom Bodet here for motel 6 ,what a place don't forget to wash your hands and burn the clothing.
these new england basements look like dungeons
Will that replacement pipe sag over time?
Maybe some new blades for the sawzall there Steve.
"give'em the ole howya doin'" Steve!
quiet pipe, mama! xD
Love all your content. But wondering why you didn’t just shut the main off to stop whatever was leaking ??
No Horse Hair and lead to seal it up? Bet it was fun when that was how they connect the cast joints together.
Am amazed they don't get more drafts /heat cycles wow be safe
Great video! Question: do couplings like this make that section of a drain line more prone to hang-ups and clogs?
no
@@stevenlavimoniere thanks. Is it safe to assume the old and new line should be fit together without gap inside the coupler?
So every time he farts he says out loud “it’s a leaker”. 😂
I enjoy for some reason the black iron vids the best. Please get a mask. All that poop dust flying mama! Thanks Steven.
I'm amazed you can do these jobs without an extra hand.
Quick question - wondering why you replaced w/ cast iron rather than pvc? In the past I think I remember you replacing cast iron w/ pvc on occasion - Thanks. Ah, never mind - saw below, didn't realize it was a commercial building!
Probably code for commercial buildings?
Very possible it was code. commercial buildings follow different codes than residential, but it also depends on their size and use.
Curious, why not replace with PVC?
His code there requires cast
@@mph5896 thx. That explains it.
Hey Steve, Is that guy's office in a dungeon by any chance ?
Hey Steve, I see your new service vehicle is a Ford. I'm a Ford man myself. How do you like it? I've been thinking of upgrading my service truck to the transit 250. Great video!
👍 Wow, that's a hunk of pipe.
Nice
Hello Steve!
All these comments an no one asked, "Why do you wear gloves when you work?". Hope the bill of materials included a new pair of boots.
You know, God Bless those 'JED CLAMPS", Eh? I'm using my Yupper/Finnish accent. Fantastic job Steve, another day at the Paaark for you though. Back to my New England accent.
I love ❤️ miss Molly.
Alternative life for Bill Burr .
It has to be
Hey Steve curious why not use PVC?
PVC = ITS NOT UP TO CODE IN THIS BUILDING
The trusty Jed Clamp-it mama!!
Come on Steve, NO DUST MASK???? OMG! YOUR POOR LUNGS!!!
You can't have rocket science without plumbing.
No one can top the fake laugh like Steve can..hahahaha...haha...hahaha...😅😂
Just curious can you put PVC in instead of the cast iron?
Yes, you can put ABS or PVC in place of cast iron. It's actually cheaper and easier to do it that way. Cast iron was probably requested by the owner. The main reason is it's quieter.
17:45 got some leakage on the right joint. was it cracked?
why didn’t you solder those fittings together?? those clamps won’t last very long??
I knew you were going to go upstairs and fix the leaking toilets!
WOW! I could not believe the price of those iron replacements!
Holy crap, that's a bad pipe!
Nice clean old-school job, but definitely cant beat a diablo or better yet a snapper. Love the videos
A snapper wouldn’t make a clean cut on that rotted pipe. It would keep collapsing every cut until he’d reach a solid section and there wasn’t much open pipe to risk it.
@jr6547 Correct on the corroded pipe, it's on the new cast that the snapper should have been used. And on the old piping the diablo works flawless.
why you wear gloves ,i can't understand it Steve
why use iron pipe when your just replacing a section and making the connection with rubber couplings? why not use pvc? i have a rotted out pipe thats lead welded to the couplings and i was just going to do this same repair but with pvc in between. because i'm not ready to drill out the leaded couplings to replace it all with pvc.
Diamond grit blades go like butter.
Imagine what they'll do to a finger. I would've braced that thing before I cut, came awfully close to his hand at the end there
Always gotta wear a face shield using those because those blades break off man
Why didn't you use the epoxy? Lol. Just kidding. You're the best Steve!
Real shit show mama next level
laughing all the way to the bank !
$825 to work in filth for an 90 minutes.
Could be worse. Crawl space😉
I did a water heater today !!!!
Gotta watch out for them rim splashers
Would like to see how they that would be fixed without the new technology using the same methods as the the original installation. Probably would be three times the work.
What struck me as so odd - that the top of that pipe rotted out. Would have thought that only the bottom part, the trough, would decay soonest.
I'm wondering if multiple long term leaks kept that pipe humid for a long time. The bottom of the pipe, having water will prevent oxygen from getting to it, but the top will get a nice mix of moisture and oxygen to form rust.
It's most likely condensation collecting on the inside of the top.
You are fn boss, good shit.
Good job steve. i would have put a hanger on that pipe with that much weight.
Talking to yourself is ok Steve but be careful if you start arguing with yourself. Lol
