No the pressure drop doesn’t increase. That’s where the taper in the flow tube comes into play. Lower part of the flow meter space between bobbin and wall of flowmeter is small. So the five flow causes pressure drop which will counter the effect of gravity. But as flow increase bobbin moves up, the space between bobbin and flow meter increases. So the higher flow still generates the same pressure drop just enough to counter gravity. That’s why the principle on which flowmeter works is called a “variable orifice fixed pressure drop principle”
