The heights are like the human names Himaruya chose. A lot of the names are not popular today but they used to be popular in the past. I think he wants to give the characters a displaced in time feeling to them. However I'm still laugh at them. Japan's so fucking short lmao. In real life Japanese men are some of the taller men in Asia. I wonder if Himaruya heard too many "lol Japanese people are short" jokes while living in America. It would explain a lot lmao. I remember being told that only in the last 100 years have kids begun overtaking their parents in height, and I'm sure by circa 1900 most of the nations in the show would have already been adults. I'm sure most of these heights would have been average or tall in Hetalia's original WW2 setting.
Was thinking that too, but Hima based them off of modern-day heights and then stretched a formerly starving agrarian nation like Russia. If it's historical height, that's fine, but at least be consistent about it. That's what bothers me.

Am I the only one who lowkey likes the canon heights? Like, sure, I think a lot of the tallest characters should be scaled up a bit, but I actually like the order they’re in and some characters being shorter/taller than the average fits with their personalities in my mind. Just my opinion, though.

Hetalia heights make as much sense as Pokemon heights. And I’ve personally gotta veto trans Egypt. The place is pretty conservative. And I tend to dislike HCs and elements of canon which involve angst for reasons unrelated to national issues, of which dysphoria is definitely one such personal issue. I know it happens in canon but I hate it when it happens there too. And IDK if Hima writes LGBT rep as much as he’s just a fudanshi. Functionally yeah that is LGB rep I guess, but it likely wasn’t intended to be taken that way as much as “Ooh look at the cute boys kissing!”. Actually, about Veneziano, didn't he express a little bit of embrassment regarding his height in one episode? There was an episode where he was running towards Germany to greet him. He intended to greet him with a kiss on each cheeck but when he got in front of Germany and tried to rise himself on his tip-toes he remained frozen in place because he couldn't reach close enought to his face no matter how hard he tried (there still was a 8 cm difference). From there the scene had gone like this: *Veneziano nervously and pathetically tries to get himself a little taller in order to reach Germany's face.* Germany: Oh! The tallest still be Netherlands, and then the average height of the citizens is another factor of the height of the character, or china should be bigger. In Russia they are not that high on average, so Russia is likely to exceed the average of citizens, but no more than that
Tbh they are fictional and are representant of THE Country not the actual people who live there, so really does it matter how tall they are not really, Marinette and Adrien are short as hell, Marinette is like 4 something and Adrien is the same height as me but I head cannon them as her being 5'4 and him being either 5'9 or 5'10 but that's MY headcannon I'm not judging them for their canon heights because even the creator has said they aren't real people so I don't see the big deal on why these canon height don't make sense to people 🤷♀️ just my opinion though
150 is short but not weird imo. Also 180 is tall tho. Then again afaik general averages globally are like 175 cm for men and 160 cm for women (some nations taller, some shorter). So I don't think Hetalia heights are so bad. Then again I am like 164 cm and above 170 feels tall to me while above 180 just feels gigantic. My internalized "normal height range" is 150-180 allowing for exceptions on both sides (especially on the tall side, 190 cm - 2 m area) (At 7:30 mark so far, I want to say that I like that Egypt theory) (Iceland does feel like he would be 170s range)

What are you talking about? Russia is literally twice the size of America. Not "slightly bigger." America is about 3.7 million square miles while Russia is 6.6 square miles. On a similar note, the second largest nation in the world, Canada, is only 3.8 million square miles. Russia is by far the largest country in the world and it isn't even remotely close. In fact, the surface area of Russia is greater than that of Pluto. He should be the tallest nation simply for that reason. So, as the video said, Hima either needs to make him the average height for his nation or fully lean into Russia being the biggest nation.

I've always hated giving the characters official heights, so yeah, I definately ignored them and pretended they weren't real and used my imagination instead. But I'm glad the height chart was reviewed and changed to correct some of the heights.

The tallest still be Netherlands, and then the average height of the citizens is another factor of the height of the character, or china should be bigger. In Russia they are not that high on average, so Russia is likely to exceed the average of citizens, but no more than that

What are you talking about? Russia is literally twice the size of America. Not "slightly bigger." America is about 3.7 million square miles while Russia is 6.6 square miles. On a similar note, the second largest nation in the world, Canada, is only 3.8 million square miles. Russia is by far the largest country in the world and it isn't even remotely close.
In fact, the surface area of Russia is greater than that of Pluto. He should be the tallest nation simply for that reason.
So, as the video said, Hima either needs to make him the average height for his nation or fully lean into Russia being the biggest nation.
