yes and no.she originated the broadway role but wasnt meant to. she was cast as the understudy, but then a few days into rehearsal (as the casted millie) was out, sutton was covering, and they thought she was so good they just told the original millie not to come and cast sutton.
In simpler terms a understudy usually plays 4 other roles in the same show, thoroughly modern Millie wasn't on the broadway stage yet. Sutton was casted as Millie the same week for preview performances.
Holy...goddamn...shit...I won't even bother describing her talent. Talent is to Sutton Foster-do pardon me, what I meant was "gorgeous Sutton Foster"-as a grain of sand is to the Gobi Desert. Samesies with Gavin Creel and Sheryl Lee Ralph.
Look for a monologue that is past the submission date and then have a panic attack OR watch Sutton Foster be amazing......yeah I'm gonna watch Sutton for now!
What is up with those comments about Sutton sucking? get up on a fucking stage and be as fantastic. and next time you offend her, don't forget to put Dr. infront of Sutton. lol
5:35 I studied all the pictures in magazines and books 5:30 I memorized the subway map too 5:25 It's one block north to Macy's and two to Brothers Brooks 5:19 Manhattan, I prepared for you 5:13 You certainly are diff'rent from what they have back home 5:08 Where nothing's over three stories high 5:04 And no one's in a hurry or wants to roam 4:59 But I do, though they wonder why 4:52 They said I would soon be good and lonely 4:47 They said I would sing the homesick blues 4:41 So I always have this ticket in my pocket 4:37 A ticket home in my pocket 4:33 To do with as I choose (tearing the ticket in two) 4:28 Burn the bridge, 4:26 bet the store 4:55 Baby's coming home no more 4:22 Not for the life of me 4:17 Break the lock, post my bail Done my time, I'm out of jail 4:11 Not for the life of me 4:08 A life that's gotta be more than a one-light town Where the light is always red 4:01 Gotta be more than an old ghost town Where the ghost ain't even dead 3:55 Clap-a-your hands, just-a-because Don't you know that where I am ain't where I was 3:49 Not for the life of me 3:45 You see, I gotta be more than a country wife, making babies till I croak 3:39 Gotta be more than the leading role in the farmer's daughter's joke! 3:34 Days of yore, kind and gentle, as me if I'm sentimental, 3:28 Not for the life of meee 3:24 Boh-doh-dee-oh Not for the life of Not for the life of 3:18 Not for the life of 3:14 hold to 3:10 meeeee!
Sutton Foster is amazing! I performed this song, and it's on this channel, which is my mom's channel. It would mean the world to me if you checked it out! Sutton Foster is my role model, and I hope to perform like her someday. Feel free to comment and critique on my videos, but please no hate! Thank you, and have a great day!
The cast recording cuts out a little section that is present in the original sheet music “you see I gotta be more than a country wife....” however she adds a “bo-dee-oh” before that part which is not present in the original. It goes from the ghost town part to one “not for the Life of me” than right to the country part. Hope this helps!
I love how she chews the end of "MEEEEEE!!!" So old Broadway, so fabulous!
props to the announcer, he's really good. Of course so is Sutton.
Both Sutton and Gavin were wonderful in this. Sutton won the Tony, but Gavin was also nominated for best leading actor.
biancamilano Gavin also went on as Bert in mary Poppins on broadway, I'm sure he has earned awards by now.
silentsmurf I still recognized him, because I saw him in a you tube video in Book of Mormon.
@@benjamincollins8559 my bad! Didn’t realize he was a replacement Bert 😅
Auditioning with this song today :)
She was the understudy? That makes me so happy, I had to understudy for a part and it just proves that the understudy is just as important

She is so humble. She mentions her brother but not her Tony award
this song gets stuck in my head so much!
She's fabulous!
The wind makes this performance much more epic.
she is amazing.

she doesn't move around much, but I love her voice!!
Sutton is from Georgia, and so am I :)

5:35 I studied all the pictures in magazines and books
5:30 I memorized the subway map too
5:25 It's one block north to Macy's and two to Brothers
Brooks
5:19 Manhattan, I prepared for you
5:13 You certainly are diff'rent from what they have back
home
5:08 Where nothing's over three stories high
5:04 And no one's in a hurry or wants to roam
4:59 But I do, though they wonder why
4:52 They said I would soon be good and lonely
4:47 They said I would sing the homesick blues
4:41 So I always have this ticket in my pocket
4:37 A ticket home in my pocket
4:33 To do with as I choose
(tearing the ticket in two)
4:28 Burn the bridge,
4:26 bet the store
4:55 Baby's coming home no more
4:22 Not for the life of me
4:17 Break the lock, post my bail
Done my time, I'm out of jail
4:11 Not for the life of me
4:08 A life that's gotta be more than a one-light town
Where the light is always red
4:01 Gotta be more than an old ghost town
Where the ghost ain't even dead
3:55 Clap-a-your hands, just-a-because
Don't you know that where I am ain't where I was
3:49 Not for the life of me
3:45 You see, I gotta be more than a country wife, making
babies till I croak
3:39 Gotta be more than the leading role in the farmer's
daughter's joke!
3:34 Days of yore, kind and gentle, as me if I'm sentimental,
3:28 Not for the life of meee
3:24 Boh-doh-dee-oh
Not for the life of
Not for the life of
3:18 Not for the life of
3:14 hold to 3:10
meeeee!

you can still hear her accent a little... :)
Yeah :)
Why are the words different than the cast recording?
They often edit cast recordings for time, although there aren't any different words here, merely additional ones.
The cast recording cuts out a little section that is present in the original sheet music “you see I gotta be more than a country wife....” however she adds a “bo-dee-oh” before that part which is not present in the original. It goes from the ghost town part to one “not for the Life of me” than right to the country part. Hope this helps!
@kittynamiaimee15 the Jr. version is shorter and more for kids they cut a lot out but Jr. or original they are both great
Yah go me! Lol

Does any go to 3:34. Does it sound like he's showing off about going to broadway or is it just me?
