Excel VLookup Function Explained with Example | Microsoft Excel VLookup Function

In this tutorial, we will learn about Microsoft Excel VLookup function. VLOOKUP function is a premade function in Excel, which allows searches across columns. VLOOKUP stands for ‘Vertical Lookup’. It is a function that makes Excel search for a certain value in a column (the so called ‘table array’), in order to return a value from a different column in the same row.
Use VLOOKUP when you need to find things in a table or a range by row. For example, look up a price of an automotive part by the part number, or find an employee name based on their employee ID.
=VLOOKUP(What you want to look up, where you want to look for it, the column number in the range containing the value to return, return an Approximate or Exact match - indicated as 1/TRUE, or 0/FALSE).
VLOOKUP function exists of 4 components as shown above.
1. The value you want to look up;
2. The range in which you want to find the value and the return value;
3. The number of the column within your defined range, that contains the return value;
4. 0 or FALSE for an exact match with the value your are looking for; 1 or TRUE for an approximate match.
