Making holes in Metall is boring but fastening two pieces of metal together is riveting

That young fella about 5:44 min mark ,really startled me for a bit, i'd originally thought that there was a lama looking in on things

What was used for the insulation between the barrel and carrying side of the walls?

It was vermiculite. Hope that helps 👍

What is the gap between the two barrels? How much vermiculite does it take to fill up?

really solid build, i saw a philipino doing the same and tryed this myself just 1hours ago. i had a little problem and had to cut it short because fire was entering my charcoal area. its cooling down right now but ill see what i got.
very nice family project. playing with fire and getting charcoal for the BBQ at the same time!

Thanks!! Yes you may have not sealed the charcoal area off enough allowing oxygen to get it hence why the charcoal will set alight. Its hard to do and we are still trying to find the perfect solution for it. It was really fun to make and hope yours works out.

@@carbonfarmers134 i did a total of 3batches. the first one i had to cut short because my inside pipe was sliding down (i riveted it after), the 2nd batch i stopped too soon, then i added some "insulation" in the form of two piece of sheet metal and it worked. the final drum was about 95% perfect charcoal. here is a picture i took yesterday:
      i.imgur.com/p56GEVo.jpg
mine is based on the design i saw on the philipino video (it was actually from thailand). the drum has a normal flue pipe doing down the middle inside of it. a big strong fire is build bellow it in a brick/cement block oven so the temperature are very high and it burn the smoke. the fire and heat go tru the center pipe inside the drum and heat the wood inside. the inside pipe has some hole drilled into it so the pyrolysis gas can enter the burn area and burn. it took maybe 3-4hours of burn time. here is some things i discovered:
-only use small piece of wood, not round logs
      -dry wood only
-must use insulation around the drum
-wind affect it (since i had no proper insulation)
      Thank you for your video!
after my successful batch i used some to do a BBQ and grill some sausages around midnight. after breathing all the burning paint and smoke it was a nice break.

Yes we found the same things out. We made a more recent video called charcoal retort re-fire which you can find on our channel page. It’s a much better burn and worth a watch!!

@@carbonfarmers134 Yeah I found it, great! Do you have anu possibility to shut off the pipe that collects wood gas, when the burn is finished, lik a valve?

@@goolgehatter1597 We just push a bit of rock wool in to seal it off once its burnt through to stop oxygen getting to the hot charcoal.
