Great video. Thanks for sharing. I liked the Marshall tubes better by a mile. They were thicker sounding and warmer. The Tung Sols felt like the bottom and high end were both chopped off. Not a bad sound - but not my personal preference.
I bought mine used and it had tungsol tubes and they were set at 45. I dropped it down to 35 and it didn’t sound as full. I put a set of JJ el34 in set it to 38ma and it sounds wonderful now. It’s a badass little amp. One of my favorite combos. I dig the veteran 30 speaker too. Rock on brother.
I like the Marshall Tubes better. It kinda depends which Tungsol Tubes you get, and if you Biased the Tubes when you swapped them. You can get Tungsol Tubes that have a fuller Gain structure. I wonder how some Mesa Tubes would sound. I really don’t see a problem with the Marshall Tubes to where I would consider changing them. Make sure you Bias the Tubes even on a New DSL40CR. I set both Biases to 35mA
i prefer Ruby's Sounds like the Mars halls didn't need replacing, could have had a bad connection at the sockets like some oxidation and removing and replacing tubes made a better connection.
They are really close...marshall tubes sound fuller/more low end...tung-sol sounds brighter...but I’m listening on a phone..so theres that...rock on my brother!!!!
My DSL 40 CR has Factory Marshall branded JJ tubes in V1 and V2 and Marshall branded Shuguang 12ax7b tubes in V3 and V4 and I like the sound my amp is putting out. Granted I have only had it for a week. I was wondering where are you had the channel volumes and the master volumes set for this test.
I guess it depends on what sound you’re going for. The Marshall tubes definitely had a warmer sound and the Ting Sol pulled out the brights a lot more.
I'll go for marshall, more friendly sounds and details. Tungsol is good too, though the sounds for me are a bit giddy, well, it depends on the user or listener what is best and suits for them.

Great video! Thanks for taking the time for doing that comparison!
Difference for sure, the marshalls sound better. Do tubes have a break in period?

tube bias will drift over time and should be checked once a year minimum, if the amp sees daily use you should re-bias every other month or so.

Thank you for this test and more power to your channel.👋

Real cool info man, I definitely noticed a difference. I think it sounds good.

Great video! How have the tubes held up??

Marshall= meaty
TungSol= airy and open
Great to have choices.

Did you swap out pre-amp and power tubes?
Seems the Marshall tubes are a bit brighter. And a little more boosted than the tung sol tubes. I like the Marshall tubes better
How long did your amp go before the tubes went?
Way more bite on the Marshall ones. Or rather rebranded Marshall ones (I assume).
I liked the Tungsol better. By the way... Marshall tubes = JJ´s. At least my DSL 40cr came with JJ´s branded as Marshall.
No comparison, Marshall tubes, sound, way better Ting-Sol sound, tinny, weak and thin.
If I was in a country band I would go tungsol
I like the Marshall's much better myself...
Most of the time Marshall uses Chinese tubes and rebrand them. Tung-Sol ones are made in Russia. After that being said, it's just a matter of taste.
Marshall tubes million times better
