    so many people don't understand the beauty of this show.

    To incorporate Swan Lake into the music is genius. Especially as (in the movie at least) Billy ends up dancing in Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake, I think. The dancing is brilliant.

    This kid killed the beginning, but I personally think Elliot Hannah was much more passionate through his dance. This boy was more controlled. Might just be his take on the dance or better technique, but I just love Elliot's version!

    • @DragonPrincessAoife
      @DragonPrincessAoife 3 роки тому +3

      He's not meant to be controlled at this point in the show, it's about his raw talent.

      @@DragonPrincessAoife Exactly, that was what I meant! Elliott is less controlled with his performance which is more true to the character I think

    Stop complaining about the sounds he's making! Don't you people understand it adds to the brilliance of the scene?

    You can look at the freeform dancing and the grunting and say WTF is this but the group section of the number has to be absolutely precise and on point which is very hard to do. It just shows what you can do in musical theater nowadays. I liked it a lot.

    The dancing is amazing. He is a great little dancer! As for the grunting I was annoyed the first time watching, but I think he will only get better as time goes on.

    The music they used for Angry Dance in the Australian productions is sooooo much better, much more passionate! Maybe I'm biased cause I was a ballet girl in the sydney season but still I stand by my opinion!

      was actually thinking the same. I remember seeing it in Melbourne and being totally amazed at this scene. Maybe its just more powerful in the theatre then on screen?

    lol, you can see his knee pads. He's so cute. And his grunting makes it all the more cuter. God i love this show and it's music.

    Incredible dancing, incredible energy and life. Well deserved award but honestly, not my cup of tea. Billy Elliot is a fantastic show nonetheless.

    @NinjaNutmeg27 It's actually a Geordie accent, and yes, all the boy's who've appeared on B'way have been coached to mimic that accent (some more successfully than others, of course).

    @theatredork4ever Not uh wow wtf... More like Wow that was amazing! You have to see the show to understand. He lost his mom, his community is on strike, he is poor, his family is fighting, and his father doesn't approve of him doing what he loves... The grunting and screaming is part of it all.

  • @goodyougetastar

    at 3:36, you can see people backstage. but why the hell am i paying attention to that when there is awesomeness going on on-stage?

  • @mrd4518
    @mrd4518 15 років тому

    it makes sense in the context of the show...billy is angry because he just missed his audition at the royal ballet school and the miners' strike riots are going on at the same time, and he dances his anger out. it is the most intense scene in the show and this performance is amazing but it wasn't a good choice. they were going to perform 'solidarity' which makes much more sense to promote the show, but there was some problem and the tony organisers made them change it last minute.

  • @britttaaannny

    if you freeze @ 3:37 you can see the backstage crew, haha

  • @PuppetDumbledore

    It's kind of hard not to. I mean, that's what people are going to remember about the performance because that particular element set it apart from the others. I just don't think that it was the best number to represent the musical.

    at the risk of offending by saying "wtf is with all the groaning" I'm just gonna say I've never seen the show. does billy have a sort of disease that makes him have extreme anger or is that just his natural reaction?

    • @EmmaCatherineL
      @EmmaCatherineL 9 років тому +12

      Let me see. His mom is dead. His dad and big brother lost their jobs in the mine. His dream of getting out of there has just been crushed through no fault of his own, and he can't do ANYTHING about it. All the adults are fighting around him, and how all world is crumbling. I've seen American boys shoot classmates for much less!

    This was my least favorite performance of the night. Random yelling and grunting just doesn't seem to make me interested in seeing the show. It's too bad they've done Electricity every other TV appearance, because that number would have been a lot better.
