I’m thrilled you finally got to ride the Slash! I’ve only been saying it since our Roscoe 8 days! I have an 8 with the SRAM GX setup. It’s basically the same bike except it’s SRAM and has a super deluxe ultimate for the rear suspension. You hit it on the head with a do it all bike. You can take it around town (though trail tires tend to wear quick on pavement in general). For local trails it’s rides well. You won’t beat an XC bike in a race and you may feel like you have to put in a little extra work to keep pace with a Fuel Ex type of bike. For smaller features to pop off of you have to preload a bit harder than a short suspension to really get a good pop but you get used to it and it’s not bad at all. Once you get to any of the fun trails with long descents, lots of tech, drops and jumps, that’s where the Slash really shines. You can bomb down everything with it. It climbs really well too! I’ve taken it on 2 hour climbs and it zips right up. The other huge perk is that you can easily take it to a bike park and not need to rent a Downhill bike. You can send the largest things to your hearts desire. To sum it up, enduro bikes like the Slash (slash from my exp) can do it all and it does best in the most adrenaline pumping type of riding. If you can wing it, I totally recommend it. I’ll be honest though, I don’t think it will be there come Spring. I bought my 2021 in Nov 2020 because a shop 2 hours away had it and I knew there was no way it would be in stock later. My local shop at the time had a 18month wait time. Lastly, if you find. An 8 which isn’t much more, it’s a better choice because the super deluxe ultimate has a lockout. If you have any questions, let me know. I’m more than happy to help based on my unbiased exp with it.
The Slash is a pretty sweet ride and in those colours it looks fantastic. You’re right though it’s a chunk of cheddar and for that money you would love some higher end cranks and shifters. This bike bug is nasty! I could easy drop 5k on a sweet ride if I had the money - they are like surfboards to me - functional fusions of technology and art that you can rip on and have a good time
I have an SLX drivetrain on my Commencal Meta. The shifter isn't bad, it's designed to be a little stiffer and it can down shift 2 gears at a time. I also have the XT on my hardtail. That shifter is stiff as well but you can up and down shift two gears at one time. It took a little time to get used it.
In 🇦🇺 the 2022 Slash 7 is $5,500 I had the Chance to ride on a 2021 Specialized StumpJumper EVO Comp in an S6 so Sick the Arctic Blue paintJob is Mint Bro definitely worth a purchase however the Front Fork here in Australia is $2,200 prices are Ridiculous but it’s the price we pay to have our Fun. Cheers 🍻
If you're wanting to demo the Ripmo both Pedal Pushers and Base Camp should have demo bikes available, though I'd wait until we get rideable trails closer than Co Springs or Pueblo. Right now Co springs, Canon City and Pueblo are the closest places to Denver with rideable trail. Denver, Boulder and anything north is just a sea of snow/mud right now.
When you're looking at the $4k price point, you can afford to be picky and shop around a little. Those don't just fly out of the store in minutes like the under $2k bikes do. That said, if it's what you really want, you should get it while it's there. My opinion is that any bike shop should have a few bikes in that range for you to try, I love Trek's colors and they make a good bike, but they tend to be a bit high on their pricing. You don't want to spend all that on a bike and not like the shifters, something you use all the time. The extra travel really just allows you to fine tune the suspension a little more, basically the "middle" is further away from the top and bottom so you can soften it a little and not worry about bottoming out. Otherwise, it's the same as any other amount of travel, but like I said you can afford to be more supple with it as it has further to go before running out of real estate.
Dude- just go get a Fuel EX model. You've been searching for that "right bike" for over a year. You test rode the 7 and 8, and you said your were sold on the 7 and ended up getting the Status (which wasn't efficient enough for what you wanted as a daily rider). Go. Get. A. Fuel EX. and call it a day.
I recently got a Rockshox Lyrik Select and it feels very plush. The Rockshox Lyrik Ultimate is the top tier lyric followed by the Lyric Select Plus which is OEM only.
I got the Lava color. It’s on its way. I couldn’t stand it. So I have this as my more aggressive ride and I go the Top Fuel XT for my trail riding. And my Farley 5 for winter with 4.5 studs. And I’m done buying for the next 20 years or until I hit the lotto. 😮 Matty, you’re a stud.
Man thats a nice ride. I'm with you though, thats alot. Waaaaaay out of my price range. I'm still saving my pennies for the last medium roscoe 6 at my lbs. Hope its there next month.
I have very mixed feelings about the slash. I rode a 2021 slash for a season and can say it is for sure a beast... sometimes too much of a beast. For those that live in gravity-focused areas (Cali), this bike is a dream. Get the suspension dialed and it's ready for whatever you throw at it. However, for those that live in areas with singletrack that requires you to sprint or pedal quite a bit (Texas), be warned that it's not intended for that. It's pretty sluggish out of corners with no gravity, and you WILL sacrifice plushness for a pedal platform. If you race an enduro race that has tons of sprints, make sure you have a rear shock with a pedal platform, otherwise, you won't have a snap when you need it, and will find yourself zapped for energy very quickly.
Nice bike but tooo expencive for the specs it has. Yeasterday in local bike shop saw BMC 2021 Speedfox Al two full suspension bike for 2200 Eur (green electric) looks sick (slx groupset + x-fussion rear and front suspension fork + drooper post). Rather take BMC and will safe money for future upgades :)

Yeah, the 8 comes with a lyrik and code R brakes, deluxe ultimate in addition to the gx drive train for like $400 more.

Just picked the same bike up yesterday, hope you managed to pick one up - it’s a beast!

I wish I lived nearby to you, you seem like such an awesome person, and I reckon you'd be great to go riding with!
I have a RS Lyrik on my Ragley Big Al and it's awesome.

Upgrade your polygon d6. Fork, wheels, tires, drivetrain.

Matty what do you think about the bike 2 years later? I’m looking at an enduro at the 3k range: thoughts?
Sick Bro 😎
There is a Specialized demo center in Boulder
That Slash is a tough Enduro bike! Great choice if you decide to get it. How much does it weigh?
It’s about 32 pounds I think they said at the store.

Wow really, would’ve never guessed
SICK bike! For the price though, I’d give the Santa Cruz Hightower a look. Juuuuuust slightly cheaper than the slash but such a sick bike!
Whyte are far better bikes for the money .
Just buy it my man.
Can you test the RockShox Zeb?
I'm riding tomorrow. Me and the wife. Marlin 6 for the win?
Nice! I love my Marlin 6
So you got the Remedy, Fuel EX and Slash to decide huh? Ha This is like a non stopping G.A.S.
For that price your closing in on a decent dual suspension e bike
Does it comme with the bottle cage
No it does not. Have to buy that separately unfortunately.
