In this CK3 challenge video we will attempt to unite the Celtic kingdoms and revive the rarest religion in game by starting as an obscure Pictish cultured count. As an extinct religion, Paganism is insanely difficult to obtain, and this is even more punishing as one of the weakest starting rulers in Crusader Kings 3. Whether you’re looking for an insane challenge or an AlzaboHD style CK3 documentary, you’re in the right place, but is this even possible? Stay tuned this / next week for Fate of Iberia content - the next CK3 DLC is almost here!

I actually watched the ad because of your cats
Missed a great opportunity to say “this is AlzaBALLSHD”!

I love that its just called "Paganism"
Pagan literally just means non-Abrahamic religion.
hope they expand on that in the future
@@Wytsch well the weird thing is the game seems to name other pagan groups. Just not the celts I guess.
I believe pagan comes from “pagus” which meant “people who lived in villages” really roughly, used by the Christian romans to call the people living in secluded villages who still worshipped the old gods
@@filippolombardini8918 definitely
That's because it's a generic religion in the game (also why the holy sites are so spread out). Just like in CK2 it's a placeholder religion used to represent the native religions in Brittannia, as well as Arabia (and a few other areas I suspect). Hopefully they'll add in the last missing religions in the newar future and will be able to retire generic paganism.
I'm from Ireland, fun fact at 13:35 he highlights "Dundalk" as a tribal backwater.

I really hope we get an actual celtic/ Druidic religon in the game. I think a Celtic Flavor Pack is in order.
It would be very hard to implement such a thing in the game in a realistic way, considering celts were Christian since before the Anglo-Saxons even arrived.
A celtic flavour pack could expand things like the high kingship of Ireland and the clans of Scotland but a celtic/druidic religion overhaul would be pointless given that celtic indigenous religions were basically extinct by both start dates in ck3
I love how people are bitching about Celtic Paganism meanwhile we already have Zunism and Hellenism in the game both of which are already extinct by the start date. Not to mentiom we're getting Basque paganism in the Iberian flavor pack and we both know even less about Basque paganism the Celtic Paganism and it was likely extinct for much longer as well.
@@chaosmorris5865 are they actually implanting that? How? We know almost nothing about it, we barely even have deity names
@@monkeymoment6478 we have hellenic lol, which died even before celtic
Know what? Edgar Aetheling. In 1066 he starts as count of Warwick, and is the last male Cerdicing. He has a claim on England, and on Ruthenia. So an English-Russian Empire might be intriguing to see.
Rohan
New start idea! Thank you! Almost forgot about the House of Wessex
@@christophersalinas2722 Truthfully, my favorite 1066 start and my fourth favorite start.
England is a lot easier to do, but Ruthenia can be accomplished. Have not managed Ruthenia in Ironman yet. In part because the claim on England can be inherited, while Edgar is the end of the line for the Ruthenia claim.
Thanks, will try this!

8:35 The name of Paris is from the celtic tribe ot the Parisii that live there. It's in fact one of the oldest celtic tribe in gallica know by greeks and roman authors.
There are more mistakes like the Helvetii tribe holding land in northern france / belgium and the Belgae holding land in the Netherlands. This isnt meant as a educational video tho ^^

Seeing videos like these makes me want to play, feeling all inspired to make my own stories in this wacky game.
Which inevitably ends up with me conquered, cucked and castrated, followed by me ragequitting, enabling mods, and giving all my enemies gout and smallpox.
I find it ironic how everyone else I know always plays the game to make huge empires that conquer tons of land. Meanwhile I often end up playing as dukes and vassals, and not being as powerful but still being able to have my own power. I like it, honestly. For me I get more enjoyment from roleplaying my characters than taking over the world. I get the appeal behind it and have done it a couple times, but it's the roleplay I'm much more interested in.
@@lesigh3410 I get that. succession is always a pain in the ass as soon as you hold more than one major title. Takes ages to integrate titles. I rather build tall too

Ideas:
-Do a random ruler switch campaign
-Recreate the old saxons and conquer the germanic and british lands.
Custom designed rulers are perfect for that, and you can play those in ironman meaning they will be a good start without being completely op. I was playing campaign with a roman hellenic character in Italy, because that's the kind of thing that makes the game fun. Sadly it was just before the last update so I had to toss it midway, but it was being a fun save.
Anyone else love Alzabo's rhymes with his words? and his nonchalant tone of voice? it's hilarious
I swear I love map games but I mainly just like your poetic dialogue. It's very different from others
First time I have ever liked a video specifically for the transition into the sponsor. Here because I just started playing the game and without knowing what I was getting into I have been determined to revive Irish Paganism
The continuous rhyming throughout the video is just amazing, as is the entire video
Challenge Suggestion: Make Egypt Egyptian Again.
Starting as a sub-Saharan Kushite, work your way north to the Nile and restore the Empire of Ancient Egypt. I’m doing this challenge myself and it’s a tough one, since all your neighbors tend to hate you.
Requirements:
-Start as a Kushite of any rank or culture
-Eventually convert to Nubian or Egyptian culture
-Form a fusion culture of Egyptian and Nubian to better reflect the culture of Ancient Egypt
-Make Coptic your official language
-Eventually reform Kushitism to make it better reflect Ancient Egyptian religion
-Conquer all lands that were once part of the Egyptian Empire
If anyone can do this, it’s you!
I do Hellenism! Should totally try and remake Kemet. Love it.
Hmm, a reformed Kushitism should have Sun Worship, Ancestor Worship and Megalithic Construction as their tenets, right?
Ive done it. I made a custom Egyptian Coptic Duke in Ethiopia, worked my way up, United Christianity and locked the Mediterranean as my personal pool
this video made me remember that the mod that revives the actual celtic faith (and many others dead religions) hasnt been updated in such a long time, it was such a good mod too

I love the script for these videos, specially with the delivery, it's pleasantly different to any other content creator out there.
To be fair, Paris is already root for the Parisii tribe of Gaul. So renaming it Vercingetorix, a leader of the Arvernii tribe of southern Gaul is rather bizarre aha

The whole narration feels like an epic poem I love it
Very much enjoy the way you showcase your series; making it into one long story is pretty enjoyable and fresh to listen to.
Your videos are always a treat
Im really bad at this game and I’ve never done super well or gotten that far. But this motivates me to keep trying so I can have an amazing dynasty akin to this one
Form the Roman Empire as a custom character named "Caesarion II Philopator", starting in Alexandria as an Hellenic Egyptian count who claims to descend from the supposed son of Cleopatra and Julius Caesar.
the amount of effort you put into each without fail is so incredible
I love them all so much
I very much like how he says it like it's a documentary of something that actually happened
It's certainly a nifty alt history style and it does go well with CK. Very reminiscent of text based "after action reports".
I always like the insane things that happen in this game from the earlier start date as a "what could have been in another timeline", particularly how often Christendom ceases to be a thing beyond perhaps the Orthodox Byzantines, if the civil wars don't wreck them.
This is probably the best run I've seen in CK3, very cool idea, and of course well executed.
Great storytelling! Like an ancient saga.
The cadence and general way you speak makes it seem that every sentence is going to rhyme, in a good way, you have a very nice voice :)

probably a weird mixture between the people who were there before, like the settlements you see on orkney and the celts/indo-europeans. wish i knew more so my ancestry wasnt so mysterious
Eh, we're pretty confident they were a brittonic celtic people.
@@rueisblue
At the latter end of their existence, they were certainly speaking a Celtic language. There are still a number of Ogham inscriptions in areas that we think that they inhabited that still haven't been translated because (so far) they don't make any sense if you treat them as if they were Goidelic or Brythonic. At the same time there are a number of stones that pretty clearly are a Brythonic language that resembles an early form of Welsh, which has lead to some speculation as to the ethnic homogeneity of the "Picts" as early and modern historiographers know them. There are some second hand accounts that the Picts described themselves as invaders from (of all places) Scythia who ended up settling in the northeast of Scotland because the Irish wouldn't welcome them onto Ireland, and that they came into some kind of agreement with the neighboring Gaels to take wives from them in exchange for some kind of agreement about succession rules.
Personally this sounds a lot like some early medieval Romaboo was trying to give them a Trojan-like origin story a la The Aenead, but I would also not be surprised if there were indeed some remnants of old Europeans like the Basque or Etruscans still running about as late as the 4th century up there.
Tldr: Later Picts were definitely speaking a Celtic language, but it's much less clear that was uniformly the case earlier in their history given how diverse the material archeological culture is there.
Bew'kan, Peters'head; you've made my day - great videos as always
I’ve always wanted to do this, thank you
