The vibe you are feeling is Slim Shady, this was his comeback after he was in something he called like his Marshall Mathers "phase" which was a much darker, serious side of him, and people missed "Slim Shady".
Eminem, Marshall Mathers and Slim Shady are all separate personas, in a way. You can tell from the vibe sometimes which one you're listening to. Like, a lot of his silly songs (and violent songs) are "slim shady" I think.
yeah although his slim persona changed as time went by. It started more like an insane mindset, then it was like wack and goofy, then it was more horror/sarcastic/raw. Marshal is him, so anything where hes talking about feelings, his family, stories about his drug addictions etc. And his eminem style is more the rappity rap technical stuff.
All three songs you just did (Sing for the Moment, Cleaning Out My Closet and Without Me) are all from the same album The Eminem Show which was released in 2002.
Great reaction, this is a really fun track, can’t help but smile - and the rhyme schemes are insane!!! The making of this video is a really funny watch too - seeing Em dress up as all the characters! (That was him dressed up each time - Elvis, His ‘mum’ Debbie, the wrestler, Moby etc). There probably are a lot of pop Culture references in there that made more sense at the time. You caught the Dick C heart problem bar, the talk show scene was a parody of something like Sally Jesse, the woman in the talk show was Em dressed up as his mum and the ‘f*** you Debby’ was because he had just won his court case when his mum sued him for £10M for the lyrics that speak of her in a negative way. The scene with the blow up doll was from the reality tv show at the time and you got the survivor type ref. You were right about the Elvis bars too - he’s speaking on cultural appropriation and arguably Elvis was one of the first (and defo ‘biggest’ ) to do this. Moby (Em dressed as the bald guy) was quite a big artist at the time that did techno music and ‘Obie’ who picked him up (or ‘stomped him’) was Obie Trice, the rapper. There are loads more but my comment is long enough lol! Eminem made this beat himself - and the one for Sing for the Moment too! He’s mad under rated as a producer!
This song was released in 2002, part of the "The Eminem Show" album. The "F- you Debbie!" line is a reference to Eminem's mom, whose first name is Debbie. The late 90s and early 2000s was a period where fluffy pop music ruled, so there are references to Britney Spears, N Sync (that Chris Kirkpatrick line), and techno artist Moby. The first time I heard this song was in summer 2002, at my 10-year high school reunion, during the dance portion . Everyone from my class seemed to know and almost everyone was dancing. And we graduated seven years before we knew who Eminem is.
I was today years old when I realized the genius of the "feels so empty without me" line and how many layers it has. The word "empty" includes the word "me" and in turn "em" and without either, the word is meaningless.
Yeah this song has a lot of references. Basically to sum it up when he first came out people were blaming him for practically everything under the sun because of his "controversial" lyrics. So a lot of the songs back here are him addressing the hate. He had parents, politicians slamming him, congress, the media, had crazy people picketing his studio/concerts and of course people complaining because he was appropriating rap music alot of people got bent out of shape that he became really popular. So a lot of songs on this album and the next are him calling out the hypocrisy of all these people. He talks about the appropriation element in white America, ton of songs such as i never knew where he calls out politicians and parents for not looking after their own kids as it wasnt his job to, in this the whole thing is him again pointing out the kid shouldn't be listening to it. tbh theres too many to list lol. His most outrageous songs after this were in response to them calling him the devil so he tripled down and made them more controversial.
Hey Suffi, I'm really enjoying your channel. You are a thoughtful and articulate person. I would love to see your reactions to Em's White America and Bagpipes from Baghdad. Disclaimer: Don't let yourself get offended, just hear what he's saying. 😉
As some others mentioned, this is the “clean” version. You could try searching the song name, along with words like “explicit”, or “unedited”. Didn’t effect this one so much, but other songs really lose something with the “clean” version.
I was waiting for this!! 😂🔥 Whenever Em decides to get funny, be it this or any other bar or lyric... It's brilliant. One of the few funny rappers out there. XD 1. "Fuck you, Debbie" : He was talking about his mother. Haha. He even dressed up as her (That lady Em in the red top with the wig) when she appeared way back when on a TV show. Super iconic line among Stans. 2. Love his self-awareness. He accepts that just like Elvis, he too has used black music (rap essentially is black culture) to make himself wealthy. Was very very controversial at the time. Haha. 😂 Loving your reactions. Keep them coming. 🥃
The three songs u just did( cleaning out my closet, sing for the moment, and without me), the beats r all produced by Eminem, he really an underrated producer
You mentioned it but I thought for sure you was gonna stop the music on what I think is the hardest bar of the song which was, "...everybody only wants to discuss me. So this must mean I'm disgusting. But it's just me I'm just obscene. Hey!" That pun is FIRE. Keep it up my guy this is how reaction videos should be imvho. Subbed. Looking forward to more Em
When he references "I know that you got a job Miss Cheney" it's because this entire song is dedicated to her in a way. She was Dick Cheney's wife and a part of the FCC and was trying to get Eminem taken off TV (hence the mtv reference) and radio (airwaves reference) because she was launching an assault on violence in music (rap specifically) and video games as a part of her running platform. *Edit she got a lot of parents to buy into her campaign on said assault so the point of the song is he's gonna be himself and make the music that's therapeutic for him. It's up to parents to monitor their kids and be aware of what they're listening to not up to him to make clean music. Which is made clear at the ending with him and Dre.
I love your channel!! I think you're one of the very few reactors I've seen that enjoy disecting lyrics and finding the meaning/deeper that the artist is trying to display. Keep it up!! 💖💖💖
About the references… this video has parodies of several tv shows back from the 2000s, like “The real world” part. And you should check Rap God, there’s a part on that song where his rapping game is INSANE!
My recommended (there’s so many more but since you’re just starting out these are the earlier ones)… -“Headlights”, the sequel to Cleaning Out My Closet -“White America” -“The Way I Am” -“Toy Soldiers” -“Beautiful” -“Mockingbird” -“Till I Collapse” “Lose Yourself” “The Way I Am” “Not Afraid” (a little later, shows Em’s evolution & personal growth) At some point you should catch “Rap Devil” dis from MGK. Then listen to Em’s response “Killshot”
This song is old enough to have been made for MTV, hence trouble finding a regular version with the video. Same with My Name Is, Guilty Conscience, etc.The end of the first verse in this, for instance, is completely changed despite some curse words remaining.
you should react cleaning out my closet and headlights.. I don't know what to recommend you tbh all of his songs are masterpieces... just keep doing more eminem pleasee
i was born in 91 and knew all the references lol but i know maybe a little too much about pop culture and grew up with eminem so (like i didn't know everything when i was that young of course even though i knew most but i know now)
"Eminem - Stay Wide Awake" is a little on the darker side context wise, but it has an insane flow and one of the greatest rhyme schemes ever. It's more of a show of skill over substance.
Debbie: his mom who sued him for 10mil after Cleaning Out My Closet btw thats Em dressed like her on couch Eminem is played by younger brother Nathan Chris Kirpatrick: member of Nsync and we all know Em loves boy bands 🙄 The show: Real World on MTV Can I Bitch would be great song next Eminem will make you die laughing
Can you please do Eminem- Darkness Yellawolf ft Eminem- Best friend Both will blow your mind. He really shows a lot of skill but it’s the two songs who have the references you’ll get easily
Let me help school the youngbloods. "This looks like a job for ..." Old Superman catch phrase. "Nanananananananana" 1960's TV Batman music theme. Mask and Red/green costume was Batman's sidekick Robin. "Using Black music" was not an issue, he was produced by Dr. Dre, whereas Elvis simply took Black music, and got rich while not recognizing and paying royalties to the original creators.
You should look at "Kill at Will the Final Chapter". Joel Ortiz, Token, Chris Rivers, Big Daddy Kane and Snow the Product. A great Hip-Hop animation with 5 of today's greats. You won't be disappointed. 👍🏾
You really don't need the real music video. The lyrics are more important. And quite awkward with how many things were missed. It hasn't been that long for basic stuff.
I feel like I can see you pretending you’ve never heard it before. You rewound one part and reacted to an ad lib no first time listener would ever hit right in time. C’mon now. Also nobody knows he says ‘selfishly’ on the first listen to the Elvis part. There’s more examples of this on your real slim shady reaction. Also you started reacting to the splinter line right before he even said splinter. You ain’t slick.

This video is the definition of "you just had to be there" there's so many references in this video but I'm glad to see you enjoy it anyhow.
I was today years old when I realized the genius of the "feels so empty without me" line and how many layers it has. The word "empty" includes the word "me" and in turn "em" and without either, the word is meaningless.
Actually this is a censored version. Even though he said the B word other lines where changed into more “softer” lyrics.

I was born in 89, hearing a fully grown man say he was born in 95 makes me feel ancient

He's never read comment.. im write a lot. But never been liked or get an answer
Glad to hear it :)

seriously some of those clean edits are terrible lol

Eminem - lucky you, killshot, best friend.

Enjoyed this!! The word you were looking for like “his flow” would be “cadence”.. ❤
You should go to, Without Me live, so you can see 82k+ fans at a concert singing to this. Beyond impressive
this video is from early 2000s so yea most of the references are from that era, love your eminem reactions ❤️

Great reaction! ❤
Came out in 2002 off the Eminem show
One of the few rap singers I like 👍🏻
Debbie is his mom i think and the "girl" in video even has curly blond hair just like his mother
This song is old enough to have been made for MTV, hence trouble finding a regular version with the video. Same with My Name Is, Guilty Conscience, etc.The end of the first verse in this, for instance, is completely changed despite some curse words remaining.
You gotta do 'I am (whatever you say I am)'. It's legendary Em.
one of the good things to be at 48
is to watch next gen trying to discover wt heck Em is talking about. . .
you're amazing bro, I always crave watching music videos u somehow react to at the SAME TIME I want to see a reaction 👏👏👏
Great reaction!!
Debby is his mom. She sued him. The line said “just settled all my lawsuits, FU Debby” that’s the reference.

You should check out NF. He’s similar to Em because he grew up listening to him. His songs are personal, not gangster rap.
Parallel with Halseys without me and we really got something going

Another good rapper is NF; all his songs are clean, but they are really good
I didn't realize you already knew him; what I should've said is that you should react to more of him 🙂
This is from 13 of may 2002

It took me less than 10 seconds to find the explicit version, so I'm not sure where you're confused
