    Glad to see Plasma 6 will be more of an evolution of Plasma 5 than KDE4 was to 3.5 way back in the day.
    Improvements all seem great and there's no forced Wayland session which makes me very happy as some of the tools I need daily still refuse to function properly with Wayland.
    The System Settings window looks like a mess tho.

    • @lltechview
      @lltechview  7 місяців тому +3

      The systemsettings are plenty and I think they made a good choice of reorganizing it. I would've placed customizability of the look and feel on top though. But I can live with it. It reminds me more of my smartphones and their menus there. Also cumbersome if you do not use the search and see it for the first time.

      @@lltechview I'm no huge fan of it but I think the GNOME team nailed it along with some other DE's like Budgie.
      For Plasma 5 I often find myself searching for 15 minutes before actually finding the settings I am interested in which too is the result of the devs often rearranging where things were.
      Hopefully Plasma 6 in that regard is more consistent and less experimental.

    I really liked the overview they had in the final 5 version, this one is a bit too gnome-like to my taste and just looks incoherent with the rest of the desktop. Tho I don't doubt the style of it is or will be fully configurable.

      I use dark mode in everyday use most of the time, but in UA-cam videos I much prefer when they show off the light mode. Even though actual light mode hurts my eyes, it's clearer in a video where the display might be smaller and blurrier than if it's on your actual computer.

    Linux distros will probably wait until the fall to bring it out because KDE 6 isn’t quite ready yet. That will coincide with the debut of Windows 24H2. Until then, expect everyone to reman on KDE 5.27.9 LTS.

      @aham4027Not working like that here. I created a few virtual desktops and the only gesture that worked was the one to switch to another virtual desktop. BUT ONLY with windows minimized and with TWO fingers.
      Overview isn't triggered no matter what or how many fingers I do, I ended instead creating a sticky note on the desktops.

    One thing I don't like about Breeze is that it never looked consistent. Even with this update: some elements are going into more flat, square, straight-edge direction, some elements stay a little bit rounded (like a classic plasma 5px border or so), and some new design elements going completely rounded gnome/mac style with very rounded corners. If just look at the default panel: the panel itself is a very rounded dock, it's applications use a sharp square border to identify opened apps, and dialogs have a slightly rounded border. Breeze always feels like it's in 3+ different design styles and in constant transition to some refreshment.

      I show in this video how to configure the size of the panel. I made it a big bigger. You can make it as small as you like as well.
      Memory usage on each system depends on what is running in the background. Like I have yakuake as terminal running in the background always.
      Some people have Telegram or other messaging apps running in the background.
      Keep that in mind. So if you configure your system you can save some memory.

    Tbh, I am a bit disappointed with Plasma 6. Yes it is nice that hopefully now Plasma works better on wayland, but 99% of the feature changes do not affect me and e.g. the changes in Dolphin are so minor that they don't change the experience you have on Dolphin. Anything you could say about "old" Dolphin (e.g. being overcrowded at first sight and so on) is still true for "new" Dolphin.
    So in the end, this feels very much like a small incremental feature update to me, all very conservative, nothing special, except the underlying update to Qt 6.

      Yeah user focused big new features are not prominently there. But I think thats what users wanted. A fast reliable desktop that does not do big changes like the switch from KDE SC 4 to Plasma 5 did or god forbid KDE 3 to KDE 4

      @nategraham4027 7 місяців тому +2

Originally I was expecting exactly that - „just“ a successful transition with everything working great, no fundamental feature updates. And yes, it honestly seems you have succeeded in that!
