  • SO WHAT DID I DO ABOUT MY TOOTH.
First off thank you everyone for you concern and sugestions about what to do with my tooth. I even had some dentists offer to see me when I get to Fort lauderdale. Amazing people out there. The good news is I'm doing much better today. The pain is gone and I'm back to enjoying the food on the Sun Princess.. I have already made an appointment with a dentist the day after I arrive back in Canada as well to have everything checked out :) Thank you everyone again.

Don. You still need antibiotics. The pain is the symptom of the deep seeded problem. You need to take antibiotics. Amoxicillin is preferred.

Agree 💯%. If tooth is absessed, he will need antibiotics. And based upon his previous health issues, he should seek medical attention. Tooth issues can lead to other health issues.

Don I'm glad you are feeling better but still go see your dentist when you get home. Do not wait for it to flare again. If it's infected, it might have found a way to drain and let the pressure out but it won't go away on its own. Just don't want you to have it spread into the lymph system. It can be dangerous and I h
ave known someone who almost died from a tooth infection that they did not have attended to.

Don, another voice here urging you to hie thee to the doctor as soon as possible and get professional help-in order to prevent sepsis and possible death. Several dentists and doctors gave you their best advice. One dentist wrote almost a twenty-sentence paragraph trying to convince you of the urgency of this matter. You are a cancer patient and no doubt have compromised health. You must get care immediately. This is no laughing matter.

Don, I am a retired nurse. Teeth infections can move to the brain. They are not something to mess with. You run the risk for a stroke. I have seen this happen. Just because it does not hurt does not mean it is gone. You may have a false sense of security. It is not worth the risk.

The throbbing pain you’ve just been through is nothing in comparison with the pain of the abscess that’s building up to explode in your tooth. Normal painkillers won’t even take the edge off of this pain, your face will resemble a soccer ball for days and there’ll be nothing can be done to the tooth other than have it extracted - but only after the the swelling has gone down. At least you have medical help a few minutes away. I went through this about 10 years ago, when I was 2 days away from medical care (yes, I’d also made an appointment with my own dentist for when I’d be home again). If you don’t want to learn the lesson from me, you’ll have learnt it for whenever the telltale throbbing pain happens you again with another tooth. The salt gargle is a temporary solution, but the infection is still bubbling away deep inside the tooth. I’d the impression that you’re a fairly intelligent person, but if you think that a salt gargle will get rid of an infection, I need to reassess that…

My husband had a severe toothache while travelling in Scotland . It died down for a couple of days then came back with a vengence when we were on the Isle of Skye . Luckily we could visit A&E for free as we are from the UK and the small hospital had a resident dentist but the hospital closed at midnight . He told my hubby that the infection was closing up his windpipe , he needed antibiotics fast and if they didn’t work within 24 hours it would be a heli medivac to get him to a bigger hospital... that was a scary 24 hours I don't need to go through again.. 😢.

It’s amazing that a man of your age and health problems thinks ignoring a tooth that sounds infected is a good idea. If it’s because of money then you need to not cruise as often or cut expenses somewhere.
Just because you have managed to get the swelling down & it isn’t giving you pains like before doesn’t mean it’s all ok. Infections do not clear up that quickly or completely, it’s more than likely very much still there. I saw doctors & dentists tell you to go & get it checked & get some Antibiotics yet you choose to ignore them. Not a good choice especially with your other health issues. If you get antibiotics now when you go to the dentist in Canada they will be able to do whatever is needed.
Get some antibiotics & always have some with you as you travel.

Don, the warm water swishing, etc might have helped drain any pus/pressure around the tooth so it feels better, but if it’s a tooth root that was the source, the root nerve might also have died out due to the infection!
You should still take a course of antibiotics!

Don , I have one more comment on the tooth! I still think you need some Penicillin to clean up,a potential infection. If the tooth is infected, the Canada dentist will not treat you due to,possible infection. With you going to Singapore, it’s a concern. If you get your 10: days of antibiotic, the Canada dentist can take care of your tooth immediately. I just do. It want you to loose precious time when you could be taking the meds to prevent any potential bacteria illnesses. Dentist out there, do you agree with this nurses plan of care? Susan RN

Yay! Glad your tooth is much better, Don. Please be sure to get it checked out once you're back home. Keep that appointment you made with your dentist so you can continue your travels with confidence that your tooth won't cause issues again.

Please see a doctor about this, people have died from untreated tooth abscess, they can spread in the body. Antibiotics can treat it.

Manuka honey mixed with water does the same thing. That is what I did with my bad tooth. You still need antibiotics though.

When I feel a sore throat or something coming on, I always gargle with warm salt water. Always does the trick. I've been doing this for over 50 years.

Don. you just need antibiotics. Shouldnt cost too much. You dont need "dental work" on a ship (maybe later). As so many have said, with your background you really should get the antibiotics before something really awful happens. PLEASE go to the doc on ship and get some antibiotics!!!

PS infections in one part of the body can become sepsis. If it gets really bad it may completely upend your future plans. What if it got bad and you had to stay home for IV abx? Sure... worst case scenario but trying to scare you into at least taking a trip to the medical center and getting their opinion! It wont hurt... take something to read in case you need to wait! JUST GO get their opinion, please!!!!!! Too bad Tony's not there - we'd get him to drag you down there!
