1. They don't practice what they preach
2. They don't back you up
3. They think you are responsible for them
4. They are a poor communicator
5. They are a persistent liar
6. They are lazy
7. They are in their role by politics, not merit
8. They favor "yes" people
9. They suppress talent that's a threat
10. They are power mad
11. they fail to give actionable feedback.
Mostly every reason why I quit my last job.
Plus have one person bounce between 3 jobs, and yelling at them if the first task was done yet. Meanwhile younger co worker us falling behind and only doing one job.
Scored 7. I despise the pr*ck
My ex boss was all these things. He also pitted people against each other, kept secrets/withheld information, gaslighted me, promised me falsehoods and put me down in private. He was the biggest ASSHOLE I've met... I'm so glad I quit in the most vengeful way and I hope he gets everything he deserves.
Thank you for posting each point!
I've experienced 9 out of 10 of these things. People keep leaving, but leadership never does anything because they want to be surrounded by"yes" people, too.
Giant red flag: nepotism arrangements. When the boss' wife/husband works in the office. Especially if they're not qualified for the role. Run far, far away and don't ever accept the job. Nothing good ever comes out of that. Or any form of nepotism really (friends, family members, etc). You, as the employee, will always be "wrong". Not to mention, if you have a legitimate complaint about a spouse, you can't exactly bring that up to the boss. Nepotism harms morale in the office and is a sure sign of a toxic place to work.
Unfortunately I fell into this pitfall. they favored each others priorities over the companies. Leading to a lot of messy schedules and unclear dates. I’m leaving soon and good riddance.
Spot On
From personal experience:
1. The manager is straight up rude to you. The guy was so out of line that I emailed his boss about it (I got the email address from the company's "leadership" page). He actually called me and we chatted for 10 minutes. He tries to gaslight me by saying it "I've known him for 9 years" and it was a "stress test". My response: "And I only need to know him for 15 minutes to know why the position is ALWAYS on Indeed and he called me to schedule an interview the same day I applied."
Within a couple of months the interviewing manager was no longer with the company.
2. They're rushing you to start earlier than two weeks when you have a job. You shouldn't have to explain to a manager that you need to give your current job a two weeks notice. Anytime a prospective tries to do that, rescind the job acceptance.
You’ve just described my ex manager. She got promoted to general manager and just hired all her friends and family into leadership roles. Set out rules that didn’t apply to her or her family just the rest of us. She briefly promoted me, demoted me after I made 1 mistake when I wasn’t given proper training, her family member made the exact same mistake as me a month later and I heard her say don’t worry about it mistakes happen.
She’s still in the job but she’s failing spectacularly with a staff retention rate of -30% 😅
She was sacked a month ago
@@matttv94 lol she was taken care of without you having to do a thing.
Well even if I was a family friend. They used it as leverage to dump a lot of responsibilities.
my manager is awkward. Inconsistent, doesn't communicate, forget things, unsupportive, random, has multiple personality, sometimes he's happy next he's mad and talks down to you.
It is the fault also of the person and company that allowed a bad supervisor be hired. I know one that says he can do the job but rather be on his desk doing NOTHING, I came by and clearly he was sleeping more than one time. A company that allows people like that to be in charge do NOT deserve respect because they themselves do NOT respect customers if they hire someone like that to be in charge.
I'm currently under a bad manager that fits most of your list. I was getting mobbed when I first arrived but noticed the signs and immediately started grayrocking. I survived through it because others became better targets. I'm currently watching people get thrown to the wolves and even starting to see glimpes of backbiting of the new employee that was being used and pit against me. The only way I survive is by laying low and acting like I don't have potential. What I do is just try to lazer sharpen my techniques on what my boss allows me to do. In the meanwhile picking up crumbs from co-workers to covertly learn new things
I was under a poor leader who exhibited all ten of these traits. My clout and intelligence were a threat to him, so I became a target. I left my 19-year career in 2022 and have been a lot happier since.
As a manager of a single medical Dr. office, I never wanted the role. But with people leaving, I was next up. I am trying to be the best I can be. Problem is, I often doubt my own abilities. I will be getting out of the job soon. Man do I hate being responsible for everything that happens. Don’t be a manager unless you can avoid doing the things in this video. So important.
What about mangers who have poor people management skills who cannot tell people off for making mistakes, not being good at their job, being lazy or resolving conflicts within the team
I really don't think people should be telling people off for not doing their job I think there are other methods of communication
Yeah, I remember when I saw the first sign of a bad manager to work for. I was once at a university's cafe where the manager was kind of rude. I threw a sandwich basket in the garbage, and the manager told me it wasn't disposable and took it out, explaining why it needed to be on the food conveyor belt. After I apologized, she said, "It's okay. Just don't let it happen again." Sure, it wasn't *exactly* a strict tone *...per se...* but I still thought that was kind of a rude way to reply to my apology. It was an honest mistake and obviously I understood right from wrong in that moment. She could've simply left it at "It's okay" and assumed I would never make that mistake again.
And if I'd have known it was _her_ catering company I was applying for, I wouldn't have applied. The irony is a potential employer has to make a good first impression on the employee as well as the other way around. I got a bad vibe in that cafe, and I was right about her personality all along.
Feel free to express your thoughts on the story
Every manager needs to be sat down and forced to watch this entire channel.
Well I couldnt agree more. 😃
They still wouldn’t care
well currently working for a multi-national waste compant and my depot's transport manager ticks all 10 of those traits and yes i am trying to leave
This is the first and only video that I have come across that describes my two faced boss.
The worst is most bosses don’t even understand their job ! I’ve seen managers also rewarding or talking highly of the worst employee of a team when they clearly aren’t working more than 2 hours a week and billing 40 hours
Great video, have seen so many of those incompetent managers.
Thank you
My current boss ticks off every one of the items on this list. I've been contemplating leaving for over a year, now I'm working to make that a reality. I've never worked for a worse company.
10% of ceo's meet the criteria for a psychopath. Many managers do too. That list basically ticks those boxes ironically
@@RevorecRecruitmentSolutions my boss could be a psychopath. He had a severe head injury a couple years back from what I understand. On another note, he's sleeping with his sister-in-law who is also our HR person.
He sounds like my old boss 🤣
Clearly you haven’t worked for Education Center of Australia which is owned by Indians and they keep a white faced management from Brazil. You will be suicidal after the bullying.
😂 my old boss too but I left for a better position HIS
My managers and boss are bad. Rediculous people!
My manager wants me to show up early morning while they get in sometime after noon. Hah! Indeed they dont practice what they preach🙌
I had 10 years in wholesale with booker. always sneak Pete the manager
Here is one, you never know what mood they are going to be in hour by hour. My manager has such severe mood swings that i ended up finding a different job because how he treats me. Its like walking on egg shells with my soon to be former manager. He is rude alot of the times and will let the other employees pile their work on me but he wont get me help and hr wont do anything. The funny part is in the past week the department lost a person this week they are losing me and the other two people are job searching because of him. When management asked people to transfer to the department im leaving the person said no not until that manager is gone because of how rude he is. Thing is the work itself isnt bad its just i get overworked and when i take a day off no one does my work on the shipping line. It doesnt make sense to me. If im out someone else should take that over for the day. The company shouldnt hit a standstill if someone takes a day off and other people have that happen to them too. Sorry for the ramble.
Good grief, the VP of our I.T. department checks at least 5 of these boxes.
I just quit the job where the manager was a control freak.
Managers could not do it themselves it would be too dangerous and uninsured too
😮 you is so right 😊thank you good message 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I would like everyone's advice on this. I work as cashier for b&m stores. I was badly verbally abused by my manger and ill treated. I know my challenge 25 and when a customer turns up at my till with no id and underage... I refused the sale as they were underage... I did nothing wrong...but my supervisor went and told my manger ive had a serious incident...and to my horror my manager pulled me aside and began shouting at me....he was not listening to me :-( his done this abruse before on my first few weeks at work where the area manager arranged a meeting... and my manager then apologised . Coming to here and now, I reported the incident to HR and sent my witness statement too alongside the mangers ill treatment to me and other staff too. He also called his hard working staff retards this hurts me so much as the staff work very hard i was horrified bern told this.... my team members are not retards:-( and work amazingly well...I have been waiting for HR to contact me and resolved my issue.. instead my letter was passed down to a team leader and no managers.... this team woman kellie calls me and tried to force words into my mouth to my horror and said i gave in my notice in and told my manger I'm leaving the b&m store and she has terminated me....
I never gave any written statement or verbally and it been disturbing how she tried to force words into my mouth and tried to fool me.
In my 9 letter page plus and statement I wrote to HR all thats been happening ij the store....not once did i write or mentioned about my termination of my contract or mentioned it at all...instead been pleading with them to resolve my issue as the manager has a bad behaviour and reeks of heavy alcohol at work. I have tried to find the directors details to email all letters and the log email dialogue from HR today to tell them what' HR has done and my store managers too... I feel betrayed HR have covered it up consideringi i also sent in a witness satement too... I am 55 year old and never had an experience such as this its left me mortified. I am very genuine and heal people and encourage people in life....and to experience evil people is a eye opener. Beautiful souls who reads this please give me advice what further I can do. B&M HR have terminated my contract without my consent and no reason as to why and have listened to the lies of a branch manager instead with jeckle and hyde traits...taking into note I did nothing wrong... its was a no id no sale... I couldn't sell acholol to underage but got punished instead of being praised for not selling to underage. He's shouts at you infront of everyone...its very humiliating. He has behaviour problems. I have won star performer certificates twice for outstanding customer communications and to be treated this way by a bad managers where HR agrees and supports a bad manager with behavioural problems. I have found it to be very shocking how HR handled it and shurved it under the carpet as if nothing happened. I'm deeply mortified how cunningly HR dealt with it... and to lie I handed in my notice of termination. When I never did. :-( B&M owners are not to blame but I strongly believe they need to be aware what's happening behind their back as they employ managers HR and unaware these people are treating employees in a bad way.
.
Firstly, sounds like an awful experience. Regarding management standards, and having worked in retail management in a past life you will get managers with the people skills of a rabid dog here and there. If they get results and have friends in the right places they'll be covered and issues brushed under the carpet. Plus HR are seen publicly to be in place as a kind of internal company police force. However in some companies theyre setup to be bias toward staff or management and the latter sounds true here. With respect, there are always two sides of the story. So either they're complete bellends or there is more to this than youre letting on. I only say this as obviously we only know your angle. But for the sake of argument if, presumably, what youre saying is true then I'd recommend an independent employment tribunal to resolve this and get yourself justice.
Hi again, thank you for your advice and I deeply appreciate it. HR cannot terminate a contract with a staff member's consent and especially when I did nothing wrong but had a strong letter of negligence. This is very wrong what they did.Everyone has a voice especially when I am innocent I have gotten punished for doing a good thing by not selling alcohol to a underage who had no ID as proof of her age.I could have easily sold the alcohol to underage and the company could have been fine as the customer was underage, the customer could also have been a mystery shopper. I cannot get it round my head how I was shouted at for doing the right things and how the HR have taken a lie from the manager saying I told him verbally I am never terminating my contract. This is a lie.The manager has lied so he doesn't get into trouble. This has revealed to me that a manager can abuse his staff and get away with it. No wonder he is very ego headed. I kid you not he is a jekyll and hyde character. No wonder bosses are getting away with this kind of behavior with HR back up support.... I even had a witness statement they have fobbed off too.....We the employees have no chance. So much happened in this store and even the talk of the town. I do strongly believe the universal law seeks justice for the innocent; it's only a matter of time. Thank you kindly for your support and apologies for the late reply. I am from the United kingdom. What I have said is true. I didn't do nothing wring and why I am standing my ground. Your feed back is something I too would have though as the saying goes two sides to a story....Anyway thank you so much for reaching out.. I had customers warning me to be careful because management is bad in the store. This was very concerning for me and as time unfolded here we are.Taking note also, we cannot blame the owners of the company because they think they have taken on good managers and HR team, little do they know whats happening behind the scenes. This are totally unaware what happened to me in their company. I hold nothing against the directors of the firm...it the HR staff and managers....
Is there no employee handbook where you work? I suspect you're working for a small business (under 50 people) and in the USA a small business management team can practically get by with murder, as the federal rules for larger organizations simply don't apply. This goes double if the small business is family owned. NO ONE in a respectable organization--I repeat--NO ONE--gets by with coming into the office drunk. If this is indeed happening, and it's a small business, and the drunken man is part of the inner circle, you're automatically on the outside looking in--which sounds like exactly what happened. The best you can hope for is to file a complaint with your state's labor board. You probably won't get anywhere by doing so, but at least there will be a piece of writing on-file in case bad conditions escalate to worse ones at that organization. Also, if the drunken man is responsible for potentially dangerous tasks and is putting himself and other workers at risk of harm, you can call the police and file a report. However, if this business has been around for a long time, the cops are probably aware of the situation already--again, emphasize the potential danger when you write to the labor board. Eventually the entire enterprise will come down in ruins over that company's heads. But it will almost certainly take a long time to do so.
nice video
Excellent list or reasons, all these reasons also create a hostile work environment. I have had 2 great managers in my career, the rest of got positions because of politics.
Had a manager tell me to start doing things my way and take initiative. So I would. Then the lead would get angry with me because I wasn't doing things exactly the leads way. So lead would go to manager and tell him I had an attitude. Then manager would lecture me because I wasn't doing it the leads way. 3 years of this, and I quit.
The lead would yell at the two of us under him. But was BFF with people from other departments
My husband’s manager and boss told staff they wanted more givers than takers. Meanwhile they increase service prices but cut budget, no salary raises, cut benefits….
Sitting in my cubicle nodding my head
I'm guessing the official policy about not accepting certain items for return has flexibility. The idea is all the frontline employees initial reject such returns and if the customer makes a big stink and asks for the manager, then they'll go ahead and accept the return. Getting an initial pushback from the employee will be sufficient for most customers, but for those very annoying ones, it's better to just take the item than to potentially lose a customer over a single return request. However, it sounds like frontline employees aren't made aware of such flexibility and so yeah, it does make you look like an idiot when the manager comes over and just accepts the return.
Go down the constructive dismissal route within 30 days? Or unfair dismissal.
I'm so glad I left that job... I was going to rot there, not blossom

Your job is always lying. Don't ever think any other way.
What if you got a manager got their favourite ppl?
Ive been on the receiving end. Being honest you have two options. 1-kiss ass or 2-leave
@@RevorecRecruitmentSolutions I not a kiss ass person sir. I looking to bounce anyway 😉
Good on you. I tried it but not great at it as I tend to speak my mind. So I left 🤣
@@RevorecRecruitmentSolutions The funny thing is nowadays jobs don't want you to speak your mind.
Very true. If you find one that does, stay
Companies are hiring too young kids that doesn’t know how to talk or treat you
That is facts ive worked at places like this they go around acting like its still school 🤦♂️ dont know what goes through some hiring managers heads sometimes
It’s not just that there are people who are just kids in adult bodies.

If you are fifty three you are too old to be manager.
My manager is number 9 to me. Andbits sad because she use to be a co-worker instead of a manager when i first started.
BE AWARE THAT THIS IS A LONG STORY.
It was only around when she hecame the manager where she ended up making my job harder and always getting in the way, saying that im being too slow for being a perfectionist (shes right for that before, but i later picked up my pace and was avle to go quicky as possible and as necessary AND get good results). She also then changes a rule that we have always been doing way before she became manager. We do resin 3D printing and we jave always used a metal scrapers to scrape the resin residue including any suports that may be left on it. I clean them realy quickly and it showed when i did ny first overtime work and have to possess 3 stupid fast printers and keep the production going by keeping the printer's always working and printing out whatever is on queue. My boss saw that and gave me a raise for it after only working for 3 months and jad me move to working with those printers. Around that time was the time my old manager got replaced with one of my co-workers that i and my job coach got along with. Everything is all good till she started to rush me and keep changing priority like cleaning the vats (which are infact the priority) whenever we change resin, or in most cases in that room or when a print has failed. I always folow that first so we can use it later incase another print has failed. But she ended up russing and telling me that getting the models out to match as the priority and that i need to dry them. But most of the times i be too busy possessing another printer as those things finish printing every 30 minutes. The models can dry on their own as i process everything else. She keeps going back and forth to the point i got depression and ended up getting what i call borderline suicidal. I dont want to die, but i defenitly felt like a lost soul roaming around the streets searching for something. Didnt jave the heart to tell her the reason what the cause was, or i cant fuigure out yet the exact reason at thay time. Ended up getting sick for 2 days from that and my manager decided to move me to the second floor as the pronters run slower there and there are only 2 printers. She didnt want me to be overwhelmed, even though she was the cause of it from pressuring me all the time and getting in the way and never listening to me.
Everything went nice and calm again until we now got a 3rd printer. We still only jave one extra vat to replace for the next job, but upstairs uses many kinds and shades of resin and would constantly jave to be cleaned and filtered. So having 3 printers and only one extra vat is such a hassle since sometimes 2 printers are finished printing and those models require brushing.
I folow the rules and clean the vats first keep production going and she gets upset when i dont clean the models first and clames that its my fualt for the printers backing up because i didnt clean the vat right away. People would try to help me and she ends up kicking them out and tell them not to help me. And later she also told me to stop using the metal scraper because it will damage the platform. She clames that all the big carbed out scratshes where cause by the scraping, when in reality they where caused by the hammers when we use to remove a certain kind of model of the platform. We don't printo those anymore in the second floor, instead we print dentures and nightguards. Those guys are nested differently with soft suports and yiu can easily push them off the platform without the hammer. Thay change happend around the same time we got the new printer and to this day, the platform looks flawless.
I try explaing to ther that it wont damage it and that the metal srcaper helps remove the suports that may get stuck and refuses to listen. Even tried to get the manufacturer of those printers to confirm to me if it will cause damage as they came in to fix something. I jave done that twice before and she dont like that im corecting her as it makes her look bad. Thats the complaint she told to my job coach, which sadly isnt always with me everyday and throughout the whole day. We now got a 4th printer and lucky that printer came with an extra one vat and the printer is only ised as back up. So in a way we jave 3 extra vats, vut i usualy only use 2. It worked so well till she threaghten to take the exta one away for a dumb reason i dont want to get into as its a whole story in itself. Vut basicly its a punishment for not cleaning them right away even though shes the one who told me to leave it alone a second ago.
I ended up having so much annoyance with her that i ended up challenging her at one point. She told me to not use the metal scraper and to only use alcohol and acetone to wipe the suports off and that she never had a problem with it and actively said to ask her for help if im having trouble with it. 3 minutes later dantures came up on the vrand new printer with the brand new platform and those guys wont come off just by tapping the dentures off. The suports are stuck on there realy good. So i tild her to clean it. It took her more than 5 minutes to clean the platform. But not even that will convince her to use the metal scraper and she said its fine and its vetter than damaging the platform. There are still some suports she missed, and if we use it as is, it will damage the vat and create dents.
I jave then proved her wrong right in her face that she cant clean nightguards in a few seconds, because i was cleaning them as fast as i can with good results, only for her to say that im taking too long and that i dont need to go thay crazy and only need to focus on the inside (which i am by the way). She then said she will help me out, cleaned the ones i didnt brush, put them on the second wash, and took them out to dry only to see the huge dofference between her brushing and my brushing. They where dirty as hell, so i cleaned those ones and she told me that i dont need to because she allready cleaned them. Told her they are dirty and showed it to her and compared hers to mine. She felt defeated. She still hasnt changed and now it seems shes coming at me or something and pourpously making my job harder as shes always getting in my way and cant stand being corrected
