Makes me wanna go back if only for a day! I’d go ride out Titus ave n sit on the porch across from the grass n smoke an original Phillies blunt listening to nas and biggies first albums! Greatest days of my life
I was born in Trenton in October 1975 at the Mercer Medical Center (which is now closed). Would love to see footage or pictures of what it looked like then. I eventually worked at WPST for a time which of course was in Princeton, but the tower and transmitter were on W Ingham Ave in Trenton. Saw the abandoned building there over the summer and it was pretty heartbreaking. The Trenton Times printed newspapers there in the basement for years. Great footage!
I was there. Born in 1971. My father worked at Trenton High as a teacher. My grandparents lived on Laylor. We had a house out on River Rd. This is amazing! Thank you
Damn this is the year I was born. Still live in Trenton to this day lol. So many changes good and bad,but I will always love my city. To any of my Trenton people out there, love ya be safe and peaceful God bless all of you
Thank you so much for posting these transfers! I grew up in Trenton 1969-1982, and these capture the feel of the city perfectly. I belong to several Trenton, NJ Facebook Groups, and I hope it's OK to share these UA-cam links to your video pages (credit to Ear of Corn Productions). There are many people who would love to see these! Is there any possibility of a time coded clip ID listing for these two videos? Many of the scenes are recognizable, but some of the streets are less familiar. Many thanks again for sharing these precious memories!
Trenton was once a real nice city, good night life ,great pizza, good restaurants and no more crime than any other city, used to take the bus from Hamilton into the city never worried at all such ashamed to look at ut now
I worked in the Labor & Industry Building at the time of this video (around :09 ) My mother tried to hold onto our family home (ours since 1920) but the neighborhood got so bad that in the '90s she had to sell. Really cheap because things just went downhill. She never got over it. The house now looks like it should be bulldozed :(
Yes, it is. I still feel the hurt every day. If we had been able to keep the house I probably would be living in it now. If anyone is interested-when I'm feeling up to it I take a trip through Trenton on Google Earth street level. It's a real eye-opener. Thank you so much for this video. Sad but some good memories too.
Remember going to the Burg for dinner? Roman Hall, DeLorenzo's, and the rest? Chambersburg went to 100% shit in the mid 90's and now it's a gang infested shit hole.
DeLorenzo's still exist but they were forced to move to Robbinsville due to the neighborhood being so bad customers stopped coming. I am happy to report that their new location is doing fine and folks don't mind driving there because it is well worth it. I believe they are still the only place that call's the product "tomato pies" as opposed to "pizza". Roman Hall was very famous and it's a downright shame that they had to close, apparently replaced by "Infinity Lounge" that has drawn complaints as too noisy, public urination, etc. A terrible shame and echos what has happened to Trenton in general.
You can see the scars of the riots and then the "urban renewal" that tried to fix things, but only made it worse. Cleared out low-income housing and put poor people in the projects, as middle class moved to Hamilton and Bucks. Lots of government office buildings and seas of parking lots (empty 100/168 hours per week) where private river-side development could have been built. No shortage of government money to build/things and pay off builders and consultants. Capital Center Mall. Roebling "Plaza". Manex Film Studios. A hockey/basketball arena that is vacant 350 days/year. Baseball stadium worked for a while but private development nearby never materialized (regulation, high prices, taxes) and the area is unsafe and still, just as poor, so Yankees left for Somerset/Bridgewater. Trenton is a true dump that makes the people who have govt jobs better off.
@@JoseGonzalez-gg6rs That sounds like a great project but I'm now retired from the big projects. I stick to documenting my family now. But feel free to use any of my Trenton footage. Good luck!

Oh it was! Booming industry (my father worked at Kuhn & Jacobs Tool & Molding). The huge Roebling plant. Stokeleys, Champale (forgot spellings), E.L. Kerns Soda Company--on and on. Great shopping downtown with major retail stores. I was born and raised there and sometimes I go back in my mind just to remember.
I ws born at the mackindley hospital in 1938 - this Hospital now has a new name - Helene Fluld and by now may even has another name The old films send all the old memories into over drive for me - this city is NOT the good looking place that it was- just sad very disjointed and ravaged as I said very sad

Does anyone have footage of Trenton NJ during the 60s?

Born and raised in Trenton. Remember all those sights. Used to have lunch @ the colony when i worked for the State. Retired now.
They had good food I remember. And cute waitresses.
Man thats cool. Serious nostalgia.
Showed some of the old teenage beer drinking spots along the railroad tracks STRR2
The best thing in Trenton in the last 50 years was City Gardens on Calhoun Street--it put Trenton on the music map.

Like watching a chicken without a head. Trenton was killed in 1968, but it took until the '80s to realize it was dead.
