If you didn't read the book, know that Britney showed Justin a lot of grace and understanding throughout it. The media just likes to focus on the negative. But I'm so proud of Britney for finally being able to tell her story. She deserves all the success

He doesn't deserve that grace and understanding, he's a selfish, arrogant a-hole, who throws people under the bus to get ahead. Britney, his Nsync buddies, Janet Jackson, was disrespectful to Prince when he was alive & when he died, wanted to use a hologram even though that was against Prince's wishes & they were not friends. He sucks

She was always graceful and kind towards him, not just now. Because of him, she was painted as the town wh*re and got all of that nefarious press attention. She could have dragged him then, he deserved as much, but she kept quiet and lived her life. She even sent him gifts when his son was born! Thinking about how much he contributed to her downward spiral, how much he maligned her over the years, oh boy, she’s so much better than I would have been in her shoes. A true classy lady.
She really loved him and it breaks my heart that someone she so loved treated her so appallingly.

Exactly. She didn’t talk badly about his behavior. It wasn’t really about him. To me it was about her and how it made her feel. I actually thought he seemed really sweet and attentive during her passage about the abortion. The fact that she was in pain and he tried to sooth her was sweet to me. They both just seemed like 2 kids who were terrified.

So glad Britney is finally able to tell her side of things. Growing up in that era, I remember how popular it was to just insult her for no reason. Justin Timberlake is getting what he deserves. And he can keep that comeback, he owes his entire solo career to Pharrell and Timbaland anyway.

His acting in Reptile is miserable anyway. The whole movie was great except for literally him. His talents are in comedy and his singing vocals, which are really only successful when an excellent producer like Timbaland is doing all the heavy lifting or in the case of *NSYNC 4 other talented singers to harmonize with behind someone else’s carefully curated persona that relies heavily on gimmicks

I don't understand this narrative that Justin owes his entire solo career to his producers. Almost all artists use producers, Britney too. In fact, Justin is way more involved in writing and producing his own music than most artists are, including Britney. This is a cheap attack.

@@lelidawi2446 I'd hardly call a comment on a youtube video an attack, but ok. I'm not knocking him for using producers, but his most successful songs were when he worked with those producers, and the songs where he didn't people weren't really interested. Its very clear that the sound developed with those producers is what worked best for him. But also I think you just took this way too seriously.

There basically are no songs (at least no singles) where Justin didn't work with Pharell or Timbaland so I don't know what you're comparing to. He worked with Max Martin a few times though, but those songs were generally quite successful, like his arguably biggest hit - Can't stop the feeling.

This is an extreme take. The dehumanising culture that used to be directed at women needs to die, not just flipped to attack boys you dislike. You sound no different than the 2003 crazies now. What happened here is two 20 year olds suspected each other of cheating, broke up and one of them based music on it in the same way that Taylor Swift bases her music on her breakups. Ratcheting up the public rage when you know there are literal lunatics that could do something dangerous with it is silly. The tabloid culture of the early 2000s was horrendous but it is so overblown, it was ridiculous and is to this day. Britney Spears was my Queen growing up so I followed all of this more closely than a lot of other people but I would just roll my eyes when the music video with the Britney look like came on and bop to Cry Me A River, it's a good song. Ill admit, I was no fan of Britney during this time period. But I'm beginning to wonder if some of my perceptions were being colored by both what Justin Timberlake had said about her publicly, and how she was being put on display for mockery and ridicule by the press, especially gossip websites like TMZ and Perez Hilton. They made her an easy person to laugh at and gawk at because to the outside world, Justin seemed like a reasonable, likeable, and together kind of guy, while Britney's very visible breakdown was somehow proof of her mental inferiority. She was not someone to sympathize with, but to try and avoid becoming, like the crazy ex trope that was so prevalent during that time in pop culture. Looking back on this time is pretty shameful, given the amount of cultural cache they carried at the time. We saw so many starlettes of the 2000s have their careers dissolve due to drug dependency and body image problems thanks to the relentless scrutiny they were under to be thin, tanned, and camera ready. Truly ghoulish behavior by the paparazzi at the time to hound them for exploitative and damaging photos that would have caused any person to have generalized anxiety and body issues. Being aware of this 20 years after the fact is a sober reminder of how hostile the environment was to young celebrities, but also how detrimental it was to the fans of impressionable age who were absorbing all this as a distorted reality.

I really don’t remember exactly what it was something to do with his hair and it giving him “street cred”. It seemed desperate, cringey, and weirdly narcissistic(yes that word is overused but both super bragging while being deeply insecure). When cry me a river came out I knew for a fact he was a jerk. I've thought so for quite a while, too. The Cry Me a River video was in bad taste, and his notable silence regarding Janet was cowardly, obviously him allowing her to take the backlash alone. But there were other, littler things that I picked up on that nobody seem to talk about. I wondered why, in particular, others didn't seem to find his song Mirror to be subtly narcississtic. The lyrics "my mirror staring back at me... I couldn't get any bigger with anyone else beside of me" is very me-focused for a song supposedly meant to be an us-focused song. And "it was easy comin' back here to you once I figured it out" always sounded like he was playing off his cheating as nbd and it was necessary to play the field, and also saying that once he realized there weren't any better options -- because he wanted to and did in fact go and check that -- oh, *then* he was willing to go back to her. It left a bad taste in my mouth when others praised it as so sweet and romantic a song.

Reading these comments have me disgusted at how some of ya'll were raised. It seems that people just want to pile on the hate even if he apologizes or takes concrete steps to do better. What would you want him to do? Off himself? Will that make some of you feel better? I speak as a Britney fan through and through. I didn't see the appeal of him or their relationship but whatever made her happy right? Yeah what he did was messed up. Yes, he's a product of his time. I lived through those years, I know he wasn't the only one. Doesn't absolve him or the men that bought into that "norm". But if Brit and Janet could forgive him, I hope ya'll know that it's not up to you to fight him over something they've gotten over already. Yes, I hope he does them justice by genuinely doing something to atone for his shady behavior. But he's quiet because he's damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. Ya'll are not ready to hear his side and if he did speak up, I'm sure people would find a way to twist everything to fit their agenda. I agree with this take in the ways that he should take steps to fulfill his more recent apology, stay humbled and aware that his influence does impact the larger industry. But we should all take responsibility with how we react to this whole debacle and stop acting like we've never done shady shit ourselves. We're so quick to crucify him but would turn a blind eye if the opportunity arises where we could have been better people but weren't. This is one of those instances. You don't have to forgive him, but stop acting like he's the devil for being a flawed human being. I love Brit and only hope for her continued freedom and healing. And as an Nsync fan who also liked JT's solo music, I hope he does better as a person. But at the end of the day, this is their lives and they don't know us. Your outrage is only hurting your peace and nobody else's. So take it down 10 notches and think about how you'd talk to a friend if they did the things either Brit or Justin have done. Like a decent human being. Break the cycle and own up to your part in this ecosystem of idolatry and cancel culture.

Calling him and the system that enabled this out is important, yes, but in this discussion things can get even more complicated:
For starters, Janet herself said in her documentary that she asked Justin to not comment, as his career was just beggining (Showing the angel that she is), even though her experience and Britneys' with Justin are both proves of misoginy mixing both can be confusing as Both Janet and Justin are on good terms now and he admited his mistakes in 2009 regarding the matter.
On Britney, she shows a lot of class by not dragging Justin on the book, as cathartic and deserving it can be (as prove, there is the internet). Britney rages to the system that put her in the hellhole, and we should do the same, let the catharsys come and then reflect on our steps for healing.
At the end, we should all let go. Britney has a lot of people whom caused harm and are way worse (Her father for example), she needs healing now from her conservatorship, not being put on the limelight for a relationship 20 years past. Justin, on the other hand, can go and say anything, it wouldn't matter as people have already their minds made and no apologies, even though they are necesary, seem to be accepted (see comments on his 2021 letter). We should reflect on our mistakes and let them go, not to be jugded (and be judging them), 20 years onward, even more so as those mistakes are not that bad (like r@p3 or m*rd3r), and are caused, and affected by the system we should be raging.

The era that shaped Justin, or Justin a willing participant??? Even the headline is taking responsibility off of Justin.
No one forced Justin to behave this way. He chose too because he’s a jerk. Plain & simple. This has nothing to do with an “era.”

Justin by playing Victim Card, consciously exploited Britney's vulnerability to elevate his own standing. While projecting an image of heartbreak to the public, he simultaneously pursued other liaisons, capitalizing on Britney's innocence.
For decades, Justin has perpetuated a narrative that disparages Britney, be it through music videos, misleading interviews, & public performances. His actions appear calculated to paint himself in a favorable light, often at her expense.
Despite the numerous controversies surrounding him, Timberlake has remained largely unscathed, revealing a discrepancy in accountability.
The veneer of Timberlake as the beloved golden boy is misleading. One need only refer to Janet Jackson's experience post-Super Bowl to recognize the disparity in treatment.

I used to love Justin … until his true colors started coming out. He’s a big reason she ended up the way she did. He should be ashamed of himself. I can’t believe Jessica hasn’t divorced his ass

Do more research, Justin had to apologize before performing at that Grammy’s , Janet did not apologize. Also, Janet’s personal shopper stated that he bought a bedazzled jewelry piece to cover her n*pple, but the costume was designed to be torn away right at the lyrics “gonna have you naked by the end of this song “. Justin didn’t even have time to rehearse prior to the SuperBowl, he was just arriving from another country. People forget that Janet was an actress long before that incident, so it was not as shocking as she portrayed. It wouldn’t have even been a big deal if TiVo and DVRS weren’t all the rage so that perverted men could rewind and replay the moment over and over again. I’ve read Britney’s book twice and as a GenXer, who has seen Janet, Britney and Justin multiple times in concert, I can honestly say that I’m still a fan of all 3 of them. Why do we have to pick sides? Britney definitely hasn’t asked us to.

So, why hasn't Britney tried to say her side of the story during these past years until her memoir came out? I'm not trying to ask a loaded question, I'm genuinely curious as to why Britney hasn't said anything.

Haven’t had a chance to get my hands on her book yet, but I think it’s pretty objectively easy to say if someone who lived through the early 2000 who wasn’t that much younger than her Britney Spears got dragged through the mud for the same reason any woman who is in control of her sexuality, got dragged through the mud because men don’t like it men didn’t like that someone like Brittany, who was so beautiful and so talented Edd was so OK with her body and so OK with her sexuality it made them scared, so what did the tablets do? They ripped her apart, dragged through the mud and tried to destroy her her. But they didn’t count on that a few decades later after all that shit happened, he would get a freedom back get her voice back and put all of them on fucking not that it’s over we’re done taking the world crap as women we’re done being made to feel bad for who we are and Britney Spears is the first one of us to stand up and say you know what I regret what I did I would’ve never done it had the choice been mine alone been mine alone I think that’s the most important narrative that her book has gotten out is that I wouldn’t have killed my baby hadn’t been my choice alone. Yeah so often we’ve been taught that you know as women oh, we won’t regret abortions we’re doing the right thing yada yada yada when realistically no as a woman, you cannot inherently just kill your child and feel nothing for it because that was your child, I think that’s the most important thing that this is pointing out is that Brittany regrets her decision she never take it back and she knew that then when she did it objectively yes but she was somehow pressured by her dude society family her career whatever to do something, she inherently knew was wrong and I applaud her for having the balls to stand up and say that I regret it because too many women regret their abortions, and never get a chance to admit that to themselves, let alone in the world

This stuff is from twenty years ago. Justin doesn’t need to answer for any of this. Hollywood is clearly running low on scandal material.
