Honda Pilot O2 Sensor Connector Connection

  • After I spent way too long trying to disconnect an O2 sensor I could reach. Then one that I could barely reach, I had to figure it out.
The Honda Pilot sensor 1 on bank 1 and bank 2 are the same. Explained, bank 1 sensor 1 on this Honda is the upstream sensor above the cat in the front of the motor. Bank 2 sensor 1 is the same but on the back of the motor.
Here I explain how to disconnect it if you've never done it.

Scott, thank you so much for this video. I was replacing the O2 sensor in my Pilot this morning and could not get the plug disconnected. I was about to toss a match on the thing and walk away, but decided to search a bit on UA-cam first, so glad I did. Thanks again.

Thank you for posting this!!! We almost took a hammer to the same piece. You just saved us lots of time, broken parts, and many cuss words!

Thank you so much! I almost gave up disconnecting the plug for my Saturn Vue 2007 V6 which has Honda engine. I suspected there is something behind by looking at O2 sensor eBay pictures. There are two locking bumps on the male (O2 sensor end) plug. You saved my day! Very easy now. There is tab to push out by squeezing my finger into that slot. (Easy to use your finger to feel it. This tab can be pushed down and lifted up a little. Do not push down!) Then, VERY little force is needed to detach the male-female combo. After that, disconnect male plug from female plug by pushing that wrinkled tab or using a screw driver to pry the tab up from the male side (easy to see and understand because you now have the male-female right in front of your eye after the combo is detached from the metal bracket). I hated it when someone at another web site said no bracket detachment needed, while an earlier guy said he detached. I was misled by the later guy.

2:20 this red letter addition is critical !! Thanks so much for taking time to film and post. I used your information a few months ago to do the “easy” front side and today I’m tackling the “back” side or firewall side. BOTH sensors so I undid the bolt that holds the bracket but with a mirror I’m struggling to remember how to release these things from the clip bracket. Once I got the forwards disconnected the removal of each sensor from the manifolds were the easy part! 😅 Thanks for the information. I think the hardest part is going to be finding the 3 clips on the wire harness that goes to the last sensor above the converter.

To be honest I didn’t get all the clips back the way they were. Down side is after changing all the sensors I’m still getting bad sensor codes showing up. It’s very frustrating.

thank you! thank you! thank you! thank you! I was going crazy here trying to do this. Now ... I gotta figure out how to get that off the bracket because I you said push a tab, and then you annotated "pull not push", but that's a lot further than I was getting on my own.

Thank you! Hope this is the trick for my Toyota Tundra. It still connected to bracket. Will try that tomorrow morning. It seems so simple and it wouldn’t release.

I still had to take the bracket off to get it but at least I knew that would solve the problem. Thank you.

I went back looked at the original video I took. And looked for any other image I had and couldn’t find anything. I’ll look under the hood later this afternoon and see if I can get you an image or explanation.

See if this helps. Response to a question. Showing the bolt the holds the bracket on and where it’s located.
