Thanks for updating your video. I descend from Samuel Rigg's brother, Clisby Riggs, also of Jefferson/Hamblen County. My mother grew up in Lowland, Hamblen County.

Riggs is my ancestor. He is my link to Daughters of the American Revolution. I couldn't believe there was this video on his house! I live in Nashville, and have never been to Morristown. It's great to know some of his history! My ancestors founded Newark, NJ, which is where he came from.

I love hearing stories of when these old historic homes were lived in by families. I can almost hear all you children running up and down the stairs and your laughter.

MY husband and I saw a video about this gorgeous home so drove out yesterday to look at it. I heard there's a grave yard in back did you see one? I loved this video I liked and will subscribe.

There was a grave yard, with the remains of Col. Riggs and his wife (I believe) occupying them, however from what Ive researched, and concluded with the Hamblen Co. Genealogical Society, the remains were exhumed and re-interred elsewhere in the city of Morristown.

@@Oldhistory oh wow OK but considering he's important enough to move then it seems like his home would be important enough to save.. Sad I hate seeing old houses be left to the elements. If I had the money I would buy it and restore it. We only took pics but when we got out a door slammed upstairs. I like to think col riggs knew we were there to take pics and preserve the history of his house in pics anyway. Where was the graveyard do you know? A local told us that veterans were buried in that cemetery as well.. I imagine civil war soldiers that died there would have been buried there as well. Did you find the house on any old maps ? That could show where the cemetery was perhaps

@@kathleenarcher1233 I have found the house on old maps, it was a tavern, and the road infront of it was the old stage road. Samuel Riggs was re-interred into the Old Morristown Cemetery, which is located on E 6th North st. There are soldiers in that specific cemetery, but In regards to the one up behind the house, unless they are unmarked, or there are graves on a part of the property that is no longer with the house, I cant say that there are any.
None the less, the house is worth saving, but it would be a monstrous task to even begin stabilization work. this video was made a while ago, and the home has befallen on even harder times, is now no longer safe to walk inside of, or even be on the second floor, and it would now take quite a hefty sum of money to restore it to even a condition where it wont fall. Double that if the owner would want to live in it.

@@Oldhistory what interested me was the lack of a kitchen in the original house. Wonder where they prepared food? An outdoor kitchen maybe.

@@kathleenarcher1233 more than likely whichever room would have had the larger chimney in the original structure would have been used as a kitchen. But based off of what I seen, the current kitchen is original. It appeared that they built it with the house
