    Tony, I thoroughly enjoyed your amazing story! Thanks for sharing that. I lived in Chicago for 37 years but I was a Cardinal fan. I enjoyed many an afternoon in the bleachers watching the Cubs and Cards battle it out. Your story brought back some memories of my own! You are doing a great job with your channel.

    Great story!! I must have been 7 or 8 years old. I was in the Indian Guides, which was a prelude to the Boy Scouts. Our group went to a California Angels game. I think I may still have the ticket stub. I have no memories of the game itself or who played, but I do remember and still have a replica batting helmet!!

    I really enjoyed your story Tony, that must have been so cool!!! I once saw some big named athletes in the Atlanta Airport when I was there to pickup people, but I didn't want to bother them for a picture or an autograph (Dominique Wilkins, Michael Strahan, Dale Murphy). I was just blown away at how big those guys were; you see them in a game on tv and it doesn't really register until you see them walking through an airport and they look like giants 😲😲

    What a story, whata TRIP. People may wonder why we love the game so much? This is a prime example. These days this would never happen, except the auto snub by RHYNO. Sure he's not in your "Burrito",😍I've had so many trips in lifetime with my friends that continue today. Stops Wrigley & ND Football games have always been a favorite of ours. The pictures of the moment seem so unreal when you look back. It's the stories like this that will always live on. Thanks for sharing it.
    Remind me to tell you the "first time I saw Darryl Strawberry" when we meet in Strongsville.

    Enjoyed the story. Growing up in the near-West suburbs started taking the L to games with my buddies at 14 in ‘86. Grew up going to that neighborhood and learned a lot about life. Now I live in the neighborhood and have season tickets. That photo of Sandberg is amazing. Spent a good part of my summers in the bleachers. I was making $5 an hour washing dishes and a Bleacher seat was $4. Those Mets teams were lots of fun in the bleachers with the pass patterns and Roger McDowell turning a hose on everyone. He was the most fun of anyone to the bleachers fans. In 1988 I was 16 and spent much of my summers in the Bleachers.

    Great story and well said. My 1st game was at Yankee Stadium in 1985. I was 9. I accidentally grabbed the ticket receipt instead of the 2nd ticket, and we didn't realize it until we were in the city (2 hours from my home in Connecticut). My father went to the ticket office and explained the situation but they wouldn't let us in no matter what he said. A scalper overheard and when getting his stack of tickets yelled at the counter people that my dad was right and they were wrong and proceeded to give us 2 box seat tickets on the 1st baseline!!!!! A scalper. In the Bronx. In 1985. Remember, this was the old Bronx where burnt out cars sat on cinder blocks on the same street as the stadium. (I took photos of the cars).
    The only thing I remember about the actual game was Dave Winfield caught a fly to end an inning and while jogging in a kid had his hat out asking for the ball. Winfield took his hat into the dugout! When Winfield came back out he handed the kid back his hat with 2 signed baseballs in it. One of the very few good memories I have of my father.

    • @SouthernCollector14
      @SouthernCollector14  13 днів тому +1

      That’s a great story too!! Those ticket scalpers had a system didn’t they? Thats so cool they gave them to yall for free and were great seats! Winfield was a great guy. He signed a program for me when I was 11 years old. I know what you’re saying about the Bronx being rough back then. I went to a game there in 1990. It was kinda sketchy just outside the stadium. Thank you for watching and sharing your memory

      @@SouthernCollector14 The worst city today is like Maybury compared to the Bronx in the mid 80s. I still can't believe a scalper gave us free tickets.

Me and 3 of my groomsmen got bleacher seats and same as you, we could have had any seat in the house but we wanted the bleacher bum experience. Wrigley Field is the best ballpark to see a game. Great story, Great memories. Have you been there recently under the Tom Ricketts era. They have done a great job upgrading the park and have really embrassed the teams history. However he just stated that the Cubs "are just breaking even". What??? (Also hoping to catch a Smokies game this year in Knoxville in the new stadium.....)🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻 Eamus Catuli !

      @SouthernCollector14  13 днів тому

      Wrigley is the best. Yes. I have been there since the upgrades. I was fortunate enough to get tickets in the lower club level with access to the 1914 Club. It was incredible. It has changed so much since I went there that first time. Go Cubs Go! There is no way the Cubs are breaking even. Their payroll is pathetic. They know they can put a losing product on the field and still sell out. That is where Wrigley becomes a curse. I will be honest with you, when they sold off the championship team shortly following 1
      2016, I kinda lost my love for them. It was so hard going from crying when they finally got over the curse to seeing all those players we fell in love with during that period just traded away. Rizzo was the one that hurt the worst. 🥲 Thanks for watching and commenting!
