Thank you very much sir. i tried to imagine 100 christians praying in a known language e.g English at the same time. It is going to be the same scenario as all 100 praying in the spirit at the same time because although it is English, nobody is really paying attention to what the next person is saying and everyone is carrying a different prayer point. There is no corporate edification per say but self-edification still exists.
This is the most sound teaching on edification I have seen. Also, while I was 1:05:00 through the video, the passage in Luke 22 where Jesus told Peter Satan desired to sift him as wheat, but he had prayed for him that his faith might not fail came to mind. Peter didn't even know Jesus had prayed for him, but he was edified (strengthened in faith) nevertheless. This is the exact same thing that happens when we pray in the Spirit, and apart from the edification that comes through answered prayers (whether in Spirit or in our own understanding), there's another type of edification that prayers (whether in Spirit or not) brings by bringing you into an atmosphere where you are more conscious of the realness of God. Over time, this atmosphere makes us more inclined towards the things of God. Thank you, Pastor Gideon. May you continue to grow in the wisdom of God.
I have always believed that edification comes through knowledge and instructions alone, I didn't know it isn't dependent on these alone. Thank you so much, Sir, for the clarification🙏🙇♀️
Thank you so much sir. I'll have a reservation though, does 'wordless groans' mean tongues? I'm struggling to accept that that's the case and I would appreciate if you can expand on that. Glod bless
Wordless groans means you don't KNOW what the Holy Spirit is saying through the groan. That's the point. No where is it said to mean tongues, in the video. Clear?
Thank you so much for taking this route to lay out the matter. The problem is, most people reach their positions in isolation of/from other aspects of scripture. And that's not the right way to make sense of the truths of scripture. God bless you sir. Btw, "brother John" made a great example sir😂😅
A quick question though. You presented "praying in tongues" as one of the gifts of the Spirit alongside "speaking in tongues" (in other words, they are the same, just the application of it; either to talk to men, or to God). If this is the case, there are a few implications to it where Paul said he wished "everyone of them spoke with tongues" as in, have the gift of tongues. Which will imply in part that not everyone "speaks in tongues", which in turn implies that not every believer's spirit will pray (1 Corinthians 14:14). So the question is, do we classify "praying in tongues" as/with the "gift of tongues"?
This is a good argument and I agree with you on the point of edification that happens with knowledge. The only place I differ with you is the Jude 20 you used. Building up yourselves was not an admonishment to personal usage of the plural pronoun (yourself). If we use a consistent hermeneutics of reading that passage in it's entirety. You'll see that Jude was admonishing them to build up on another and we can make a case for this from how he had referred to them in the previous verse, it'll be an inconsistent reading of the text to change the use of the pronoun in the middle of the text. A good exposition of Jude 20 tells us that He was referring to the believers in general which is a form of corporate edification. (If there's doubt on this you can approach it from the original greek text and it does show that he was referring to them as a people not personally "Ὑμεῖς" (You) is used to refer to the plural form of the singular form "σύ". So we can't make a case fin that scripture as a command for self edification rather it is for corporate edification. Again, I agree that edification can be done without knowledge of the person, however I've not seen a command from scripture that clearly tells individuals for personal edification (not one) But should you have, I'm open to hearing scriptures that commands us to. Great pod put together once again. Grace and Peace Brother.
You said "I've not seen a command from scripture that clearly tells individuals for personal edification" Do you agree there's something such as personal edification in the first place?
@farinuolaemmanuel I agree... 1 Corinthians 14 clearly talks about it. I, however, have not seen a passage in scripture that tells individual believers to edify themselves. All passages on edification that I have seen are always with others. Even 1 Corinthians 14 that talks about personal edification does not command them to do so, it however to them to edify the entire body. If you have passages that talks otherwise I'll love to hear them
@Olorun_Phemmy The greek study Bible I use had that. Also just checked the online greek bible now "ὑμεῖς" is used. All of which translates to the plural form of "you"....The progress of that text in English itself is referring to people (more than one) and not individual.
Thank you sir🎉❤
Very powerful and Expository!
Wow! Prayer does not occur in a vacuum! It cannot get clearer than this!
Thank you, sir.
Thank you sir

You are wrong, sir. The greek word for yourselves in that scripture is HEAUTOU, which means "himself, herself, or itself"
