Agree! --I have one from our local buy back/re-use center. Got it for $5. Had to redo the packing on the pump but that sort of fussing over it is what makes it fun. Also, though, I had to scrub off a lot of dust and soot. Did that and was all set to fire it up...but didn't really know what I was doing and kept trying to light it, and somehow pumped a bunch of fuel into the interior which FINALLY lit--so it was all sooty again. :-) But I was lucky not to get burned or have a worse outcome, so that was a cheap price for the lesson of READ THE DIRECTIONS and do it the right way (instead of just wining it).
I worked on the 288 yesterday. I need a new valve and generator; it was broken internally. I need to order a new one. Where do you like to get your parts from? It was a great day for a stove hunt! Thanks for watching.
We grew up using this stove my mom had all the parts ready. We traveled cross country by car..taught me how to rebut it once a year. At ten years of age. And swap out the lantern pump in emergency WI the lamp for the stove. She had to have her coffee. Cool tactical aprin
You'll need to start your coffee at midnight and it will be ready by 7 the next morning! 425 are slow but bulletproof, especially at 10k feet in snow.. You should try the propane conversion kit for them.
You're right! The Apex 2 Stove I just used would be perfect for that situation. I plan to pick up one of the conversion kits and create a video about it. Thanks so much for the tip and for watching-your support means a lot!
I apologize for missing the bar in this video; I realize that was an important detail to include. I will make sure to thoroughly discuss it in the upcoming Coleman session, so everyone has a clear understanding. Thank you for your feedback. Happy New Year.
Yah. Your wife totally did you good with that apron. I need to get one of those. Nice stove and lantern. God Bless You.
I agree! I love it. Thanks for stopping in. Happy New Year
Nice stove! Thank you for showing it to us. I find a few stoves and lanterns at yard sales. Stay safe and stay warm
I appreciate it, Thanks for watching! Happy new year.

They are fun to find. I've made some of those mistakes too, I'm glad you didn't get burned. Thanks for watching. Happy New Year.
Haven’t seen a gold colored collar and label on a 288 before. Nice clean stove for $20, good find!

Thanks for sharing your family's memories! I grew up watching my dad cook on these when we were camping. Thanks for watching I appreciate it.
Good looking stove for $20.00. I’m trying to reduce/stop using creamer in my coffee... it’s tough, but I’m getting there. Cheers!☕️
Thanks, I appreciate it. It is tough without creamer! I have the same problem. But I am getting there
Really nice stove... i found one too a while back same scenario just not the box
Thanks Krubby. They are out there. We just have to find them! Happy New Year.

@@ErikH86I'm curious why you recommend switching to propane in cold conditions?
@@billb3374 recommended? Cold conditions? You lost me
@@ErikH86 I replied to the wrong person. My apologies.
@@billb3374 no worries at all. Happy New Year.
If mom couldn't find Coleman gas she would siphon gas from the car
She got the job. That's good memories.
Would have more beneficial if you had explain how to tell when tank was primed and how it worked. I already know how to make camp coffee.

And if we ran on low on car gas she would use Colman fuel to get us to the next gas station
