Got a 75' lift, 1 large f800 dump 2 1ton dump trucks 1 chipper 2 stumpers and a large 6way wood splitter with conveyor belt, 2 tractors, all of its payed off. 4 full time employee's and a few extra when I need them. I'm on every job and work right beside my men. All the advice you have given is very solid. Also presentation matters, don't hire people that look like things, paint and keep your equipment clean, no cursing on the job, keep up the great info

All climbers are different. He is special and so are you Brian cash. You should give yourself a little more credit then that. The type of work you guys do is not something everyone can do. He's got as much experience as you. To do that type of work and still come home and take care of home makes me appreciate the type of work he does at home and away.
Is it possible to get jobs equipped with only a chainsaw, gas/oil, and a car? I'm sick of working for other people. I would like to find "no clean-up" jobs where I can just drop small trees and cut them up for the homeowner. If I could make just $600-$800 weekly I could still pay my bills and live comfortably. Does anyone have some advice?
A person has to develop the proper skills first, so 3 to 8 years working for another tree service is certainly a good thing to get really good experience.
Is it really that complicated? 8 years. You could become a doctor in that time. Maybe it's not as simple as I am thinking....with a busy and daily employer, I think I could figure it out in a few months.

Yeah, it can be more complex than I initially thought. There's a 25 foot oak tree across from me that is supposed to be removed. Hi, what if i just wanted to yank out and grind stumps and cut down small trees myself only. .. Leave tree in pile for garbage man or home owner to haul..or i guess hire and pay sub to haul away etc...no subs.... I did this type of work many years ago and even at 59 i am still pretty good shape...Any thoughts on type of stump grinder etc... thanks for your help.. ch
Small trees. A DR stump grinder has the best teeth. You can rotate them 3x and the local lawn care repair can sharpen them. Small enough to get in gates…. For small trees.
My name is Billy Garrett I own and operate All American Tree Service , been doing trees most of my life on and off , but only running my own business for 3 years. I do all the climbing (I'm 54 years old ) mainly because I don't trust anyone cutting near structures and i just don't want anyone getting hurt. It's very dangerous sense drout Texas has been experiencing. I could use some mentoring on the business side of this deal. I'd appreciate any advice
Depends on how hard the tree is rather it over top of your house or something else you don't want broken or if it not around anything where they can just drop it with out worrying about hitting anything . So it can be the same size tree but the tree that's in the open should cost a lot less then the tree that's next to your house. Because the tree next to house you most likely going have to boom the the tree down with a rope to make sure you house is safe so you going need at least one climber and one person who knows how to run the rope good to make sure to lower it down with out hitting anything including the climber because if you don't know when to let it drop some for ot don't swing back and hit the climber and when not to let it drop because you need it to come back and swing around the tree because it's not enough room to let it down on the side of tree you cut it from. Then you most likely going want at least one more person for labor this person dont need to know much about tree work unlike the climber and rope man. You want him around for when you lower the pieces of the tree you can hold it in air just off the ground and have him grab the tips of the bunches and walk it to where you want it before letting it down rest of the way other wise it will take a lot longer without that 3rd person because you end up with a hog pile of brush and wood witch will take 2 sometimes 3 times as long to sit it up and clean it all up then it would take to clean the same amount up that's not in a hog pile and that's not counting every time the climber have to wait for the rope man to clean everything off from there climbing rope which that other person could be doing for the climber and rope man can stay busy taking the tree down with out having to stop. Now that same tree is in the open then one person could do it without any help if he wanted and do it faster then him and 2 other guys could do the tree next to a house. Because could drop it in big pieces with out roping any of the tree.
A hard tree over a house would charge a lot more to do it then a bigger tree that takes 4 hours to do even if it only takes 1hour for them to take down the tree over your house. Because its lot more dangerous for the person and taking a lot bigger risks even know it dont take even half the time because you getting charged for how dangerous the tree is rather then how long it takes to do it. Don't know any tree company around me that charged by the hour rather they give you a price for the job not by the hour and if they get it done sooner but they thought it was going to take you still pay the set price and if it takes them even a week longer then they thought you still pay that same price. You need to be able to bid the job because if they give you a price that they figure it will take 3 days but it end up taking them 6 days then they just have to suck it up and get it done even if they end up losing money on the job. Because it's not like they can change their price after sign the contract with you unlike if they end up getting it done in 2 days instead of the 3 days they was planning on they going still get paid the same amount still.
You describe that perfect I can tell a hundred examples just like that I'm in Florida me and two workers that's me climbing just a truck and trailer average about 300 an hour in pocket

@@thegreatecb yes I know other people who started there business with only a chainsaw and a car . But i would recommend that as soon as you able to buy a cheap truck do it because %90 of people wants you to take the mess with you even if it costs them more.

I want to haul off the logs for tree service contractors. I have a small sawmill and can use most anything over 10 inches thick and 8 feet long. Any suggestions on how to approach my local service contractors so I can save them money and get paid for taking the logs too?
Bob Schwaller ,you should not have any trouble getting them to give you their logs in most cases, it saves them a lot of work, but you will have to do all the loading yourself with a tractor or skid steer

If I were just going to choose one item it would probably be a throw ball, there are a lot of trees you can just pull over if you can get a rope in the top,saves the climber a lot of work.

You can do a lot of work with a gas pole saw can cut brunches 25 feet or higher right from the job. It's not cheap to buy new it cost around 15 hundred but if you know how to find the work it will make you a lot of money
Very hard to find good help in tree work.. And I mean someone that knows how to sharpen a saw, not a drunk or druggie, child support, good license etc....

You're talking about equipment and insurance I suppose. A boom truck? Not cheap, and the insurance....I keep hearing it's so dangerous, so that's probably pricey.
You won't find a real tree company around here to charge by the hour instead they give you one set price for the job and that what you pay no matter how long it takes them to do. The only people that well do it by the hour are kids or people that haven't done to much tree work and don't know much about it just looking for a way to make some money I would only hire someone like that for a easy job that they can't hurt anything doing the job otherwise I would rather pay a real company that knows what they doing if its a job that's hard and dangerous or if they could hurt anything
Anyone wanting to start out keep in mind this video is 5 years old. You will not get a good climber to do anything for $100. Doesn't matter if it's 1 limb. Nobody is putting their gear on for that.

w8stral It depends where you live. It’s not as seasonal as lawn-care. Grass essentially stops growing during certain times of year whereas trees generally need cut down anytime of the year.
And if it is windy/rainy you are NOT working even above and beyond seasonal variation. Must be taken into consideration. THat is before one even considers that people will not call. It is all part of the business.... ANY business. Just more so when you are the one and only employee or maybe you have 2 or 3 employees. @@Painfulwhale360
Sounds like you need a tutor if you have that much downtime, There are ways to keep a full schedule, but then you sound like a know it all that cannot be taught anything shooting off your mouth like that.

Horrible advice. You barely said anything about how to start a business it should’ve started with what equipment you need to start a business. Obviously chainsaws but you could’ve went in depth a little bit about things that you don’t need right away when starting a business . a father and son charged me 700, and took them maybe 5 hours..just a pick up and ladders, and chainsaws..not bad

Nails are the biggest issues with urban logging I got 25xl most logs are 35" the 35xl is 25k.

You can do a lot of work with a gas pole saw can cut brunches 25 feet or higher right from the job. It's not cheap to buy new it cost around 15 hundred but if you know how to find the work it will make you a lot of money

Listening to your figures and “profit” doesn’t take into consideration ALL the business liabilities. You paint an inaccurate picture.
You're talking about equipment and insurance I suppose. A boom truck? Not cheap, and the insurance....I keep hearing it's so dangerous, so that's probably pricey.
You won't find a real tree company around here to charge by the hour instead they give you one set price for the job and that what you pay no matter how long it takes them to do. The only people that well do it by the hour are kids or people that haven't done to much tree work and don't know much about it just looking for a way to make some money I would only hire someone like that for a easy job that they can't hurt anything doing the job otherwise I would rather pay a real company that knows what they doing if its a job that's hard and dangerous or if they could hurt anything
Anyone wanting to start out keep in mind this video is 5 years old. You will not get a good climber to do anything for $100. Doesn't matter if it's 1 limb. Nobody is putting their gear on for that.

And during large portions of the year you have ZERO work. Never forget. Never forget enormous amounts of down time. Rattling off management numbers of a few jobs is frankly telling half lies.
w8stral It depends where you live. It’s not as seasonal as lawn-care. Grass essentially stops growing during certain times of year whereas trees generally need cut down anytime of the year.
And if it is windy/rainy you are NOT working even above and beyond seasonal variation. Must be taken into consideration. THat is before one even considers that people will not call. It is all part of the business.... ANY business. Just more so when you are the one and only employee or maybe you have 2 or 3 employees. @@Painfulwhale360
Sounds like you need a tutor if you have that much downtime, There are ways to keep a full schedule, but then you sound like a know it all that cannot be taught

w8stral no, what he was saying is you can start a business making a lot of money and if you can actually save money you will make enough to make it through the downtime easily. You make above average money to not only carry you through but keep you employees stable as well.

Horrible advice. You barely said anything about how to start a business it should’ve started with what equipment you need to start a business. Obviously chainsaws but you could’ve went in depth a little bit about things that you don’t need right away when starting a business . The title should have been what I made doing tree care because that’s all you talk about ha ha.
