I've been using it for about a month now, and I absolutely love it! It's just such a fun language to use, and I just feel compelled to tell people about it! Thank you so much for your support :)
Hey! Awesome to see a Zig channel. Not sure if you're taking requests at this point, but as a zig newbie the build system still is kind of a mystery to me. A video about basic usage/explanation of the build system would be super useful.
Yes I'm absolutely taking requests! :) Someone else suggested that too and I think it's a great idea! I also got super confused by build.zig and all of that
Great first video, but some constructive criticism as I'd love to see an even better video next time: Copy code snippets into clean text boxes in your presentation. Would be more readable, and have a consistent color scheme, font size, and not be stretched unevenly. The screenshots are also kind of blurry in this one, so zooming in before taking them to up the resolution would be a good step as well (would prefer text boxes, though).
Just saw the post on Reddit and glad I watched! I’m doing crafting interpreters with zig and wanted to use comptimestring map but couldn’t find that it was renamed.
That's the plan! I liked all the Zig content that was out there but thought there just wasn't enough. You can follow the playlist this is in if you want to see future release notes coverage :)
If only there were a good guide on how to use the most common zig build features. I always have to rummage through random repos and find their build file and hope that tgey needed everything I need.
Thank you so much! I would like to cover Zig news, new versions / release notes, and also have a series planned for those new to Zig! I have a GitHub repository set up for it now, and am making really good progress on it. Keep an eye out for it ;)
Good video. The listing of the upcoming categories at the start of the video isn’t necessary. You have chapters in the video so can skip telling us about them. Just an idea. Nice work.
i like how they are breaking things as they discover bad decisions reminds me of kotlin... more languages should do that assuming they instruct compiler to assist you with the solution.
@@ZigIsGreat cant wait for zig to hit the 1.0 one day, i'm gonna get everyone in the office and be like "find an excuse and use it for something, so we can try it out"... I did it with kotlin now everyone uses it.
A bit of feedback I was interested in watching because I follow zig from afar, it seems to me the video relies on familiarity with the language and it made it less accessible to me, perhaps keep people unfamiliar with the language in mind 😅
Find me a singular patch note related video (video game, software or otherwise) that’s not the first patch notes released for it, that caters to people that don’t understand the topic that said changelog is related to. I’ll wait 🤙
@Hellbending They were very constructive about it so I don't mind! @FelipeMendez thank you for that, it does actually help a lot to know that! I am definitely trying to reach more people like you so I'll keep that in mind. Thank you for watching still ❤️
first zig content creator?
Ahh what's this? A new Zig channel?!
Let me press that like and subscribe buttons!!
More of the Zig contents please ❤
Thank you so much!! I can definitely keep up the Zig content ❤️
This report is really nice to keep up with zig news. Thank you
That really does make me so happy to hear that!! Thank you so much :D

Same here... Subbed as well...
Zig < Rust.

I'm messing with zig for about... roughly 2 months, liking it since the beginning. Great to see another zig channel!

Not going to use Zig for a long time but I'm glad I found this channel.
That is exactly what I was hoping to get out of this channel! I'm glad you found me as well :)
inb4 this channel blows up! Yay zig content!

Lovin Zig. Found someone's Medium article about pushing to embedded, tiny boards like rp2040. This is such a natural evolution for me.
A high-quality Zig content creator, let's gooo! Going to watch your other videos right now :)
You're too kind ❤️ thank you
I love the slider effect and the concise listing of the changes. Good work!

I somehow didn't think about the screenshots standing out that bad, thank you!! That is an easy fix ☺️
Nice catch man! keep it going and thank you for sharing those news with us 🙂
You're very welcome!! Thank you for watching and letting me know!! 🥰
Cool to see more zig content
I love your intro haha "sorry not much to it"
Lmao thank you :D it really is just a ton of fun
What a great video with very good reference links ! Really good job
I really appreciate how kind you are ☺️ thank you so much for the support!!!

That's exactly what I love to hear! I'm glad I could be of help
Subscribed! I’m interested in learning zig starting later this year
Yess!! I was looking for a place for zig news! Are you planning on making more content like this?
That's the plan! I liked all the Zig content that was out there but thought there just wasn't enough.

Love zig
thanks for the overview, and memes :)
I'm glad you enjoyed it!! Thank you so much ☺️
>gets the video
>checks my version
>it is 0.13.0
>feels good (I don't use zig, I just used it for a build, frankly I have no idea why I am here)
That's what I love to hear! Glad to see you here 🥰
Lovely video!

Honestly, I did the same thing too!! I'll keep that in mind, keep an eye out for a video on that hopefully soon! 😁
I’d like to learn zig in my free time next year. I hope I have time for it. Too many other projects atm.
That's totally understandable!! I'll be here whenever you're ready :D good luck with your other stuff!!
Im the 1000th subscriber!!!!!! Heck yeah!!!!! Wooooo!!!!’
very gud, thanks 👍

@@ZigIsGreat sounds cool, especially the series for people new to zig, as those materials can be a bit scarce!
I agree absolutely! That's the whole reason I started this channel, and it seems like I was right in thinking that!
Nice zig channel.
Thank you very much ❤️❤️

Can't keep up with a pre1.0 yet but let's follow then 😹
hey was there any change of the std.process.getenv() to std.env.get() or something like that ??
Do you mean _std.posix.getenv()_ ? That is still the same.
There is also _std.process.getEnvVarOwned()_ if that's what you meant?
@@ZigIsGreat yep got it thanks

more languages should do that assuming they instruct compiler to assist you with the solution.
It's a very healthy part of any good language's lifecycle, and it brings a lot of cool features along the way! It's exciting, that's for sure!! ☺️

I did it with kotlin now everyone uses it.
I'm excited to see that happen!! I wish I would have had the chance to do it myself 😉
Average "we have few similar functions, so let's make one, and stuff it with flags" move.
We have reached peak flags
Thanks for your overview. This channel is gonna be successful. Hope for new future content :) Good luck, well presented!!!. Sub and Like

hey, why did you lose your reddit account ? got hacked ?
It got suspended for some reason?? I'm so confused :/
@@ZigIsGreat it's reddit you can get suspended for having the wrong opinion on the "beans and toast" situation i swear
@@gwentarinokripperinolkjdsf683 that's what it feels like, yeah! still no word back from support about getting it fixed either :/ what a joke lmao
Your dotfiles link please? Motivated me to write my dots from scratch in hyprland.
@ZigIsGreat would be great if you could share your dotfiles, if they are public.
I wish I could, but they're not public! I have secrets in there that I don't trust on GitHub at all 🤣
@@ZigIsGreat can you let me know the deets here? Wm, packages etc etc :)
Especially looks you use waybar, loved your status bar. Dots for them on a gist (without secrets maybe if possible haha)
len to cap wtf..
