    Enjoyed the information, while OWC was highlighted the info is universal and I wish to thank you all for the info.

    This video really got a lot of views.
    Michelle must of gone onto bigger and better things…Surely???
    Super slick production, bar the flashing/ flash up info graphics.
    That stuff isn’t good for some people.

    MacSales/OWC sells 2.5-inch 4TB NVMe U.2 SSD (Western Digital Ultrastar DC SN630) that are more cost effective than buying 4TB NVMe blades. They work in the U.2 enclosure but appear to have much slower write speeds. Are these older technology?

    • @poweredbyowc
      @poweredbyowc  Рік тому

      So there are different types of SSDs…there are 2.5 Sata SSDs, M.2s, U.2s, and others however each does have a different read and write as it serves a different purpose. They are a newer technology and drive, but again depending on the drive chosen, that will determine its speed.

      @@poweredbyowc So U.2 NVMe SSDs have much slower write times than M.2 NVMe SSDs but U.2 SSDs are also much less expensive, at least those sold by you.

      Generally the bigger and slower the drive, the cheaper it is….the smaller and faster the drive, the more expensive.

    First I thought this video was a bit dated. You completely forgot about PCIe 4.0 NVMe drives that can handle up to 7 GB/s.

    So, if I have an older motherboard that only supports Gen3 m.2. Would I benefit from having a 2nd PCIE slot that I can slot in a Gen4 or even Gen5 nvme via U.2?

      While we can't speak for all setups and all situations, chances are if you're currently working with SATA drives, installing some kind of NVME storage on a PCIE 3.0 x4 slot will result in a serious increase in overall read/write performance vs SATA SSDs and HDDs.

      There are adapters to connect M.2 drives to the regular add-in card slots, both are PCIe. Though depending on your exact system they may be different, like in which get dedicated PCIe lanes from the CPU, or whether using one will disable another or cut its bandwidth in half, so you should look in your motherboard's specs page or manual before deciding what to put where. I think U.2 drives are normally enterprise drives, designed with different considerations than consumer drives.
      If I understood correctly, a slot's PCIe generation often limits the top speeds of higher-gen drives, but their random performance is not so limited by bandwidth, so it may still be better than in older drives, depending on exact models.

      One should also be aware of the difference between adapters that are a simple electrical connections, and ones with their own controller.

      Check the controller type (generation) on the Adapter Card. Some can be Gen2, so faster SSDs cost more without performing better. Many PC Motherboards have 2, some have even 3 or 4 SSD m.2 connectors already built in.

    Does putting a nvme ssd in a sata adapter affect it’s performance or speed?

    Why didn't you just have the person who wrote the script do the video? Or let the actor look at the camera? This is just weird.

  • @mrfroopy
    @mrfroopy 2 роки тому +1

    Just fyi this paradigm of directing the actor to look off camera has been out of use for at least 15 years because it is super annoying to the viewer.

      I agree with Jason. Why is the speaker looking off into the distance? What purpose does that serve? Michele is a sharp presenter… she should be looking directly at the viewer. And slow her down a little. All these acronyms and jargon take a few seconds to digest.
