I was born & raised in Winston-Salem. I grew up in the 90's so a lot of this is just awesome to see. I do recognize some of the old buildings & some of the locations. One day I hope to move back to W~S & maybe one day be buried in Salem Cemetery. I love Winston-Salem NC & I'm so proud to call this place home.

Thanks for sharing Helmes.... I left in dec of 1999 to live on an island. Moved back in 2014 and in that time, Winston completely changed. Most of what I knew was GONE in that time frame Winston completely changed from Old winston I knew, to what it all is today. Sure do miss the wholesome secure city and people I grew up around. We were the last generation I guess to have lived also in our parent's era. Younger people have NO CLUE what life use to be like. It was great.

Born here in the '50s. Remember so much of it. My fondest memory is the Thruway Tower when lighted for Christmas. As a child, I could see it from my bedroom window. Does anyone remember Dick Bennick as Dr. Paul Bearer on Shock Theatre on WGHP?

Thank you Larry for this remarkable video. I am 81 years now, i lived in Easton in the 50's, what a wonderful place to be then, i went all over and knew many people. All the kids there were nice and stayed out of trouble. We shot hoops, played tin can hide, marbles and spin the bottle, what fun. I attended Easton Baptist Church as most of all the kids.We went to Union Cross School and to Robert B. Glenn High School, Red and White Bobcats ! I hope you see this. My name was Luanne McKinney then. I think i must be older than you, because i don't reconize your name. Once again thank you, you did agreat job and a good thing.

You may have know my Brother, Eddie, 1946-1996, or my good friends Dickie & Jimmy Pierce. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I miss those days very much

Sadly with the violence nowadays, it would be turned into a gang-bangers & drug dealer's parking lot.

Someone put a hateful remark on here, about there not being any black people in the video. I can't help that, I did not take most of these photos. To accuse me of racism, is ridiculous!

I enjoyed the video, but it does remind me that blacks were not present in these photos because of racism on YOUR part, but because of institutional racism that kept them from neighborhoods, restaurants, etc. back in the “good ole days.” (I’m white, tho’ it shouldn’t matter.)

@@lynnellis9068 ... I lived in Easton in the 1950's. A wonderful time to be a " teeney bopper " and a teen ager. Yes everything was segregated then so it was a different world. Our city is a wonderful place for me, i wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I suppose every generation thinks theirs was the best! But ,yes the 50's was as good as the media pictures it to me. I am old now (81 ) But there were many precious memories for me in this video.
