  • Tha Brigade - Mic-10 Mobstah (from 'The First Blood' EP, 1993)
    Background:
In 1991 a hip hop group from London, England called 'Gunshot' performed twice at a sold-out Kompaniet in Gothenburg, Sweden. Shocked by this response they hadn't got at home yet, the group wondered how it was possible at all.
They were one of the pioneers of the British hardcore style, and for some reason the sound had became the big thing for Gothenburg youth out of nowhere. It's important to note that just like in London, the rest of Sweden didn't
care much about rap from outside of the USA either. The Americans ruled the whole scene, except for in this one unique city on the Swedish west coast. And that's how Siege, DJ Upperkut and DJ Cymbeline became the first in the
country to release a project with the tempo and downrightness heard from the UK. 'Tha Brigade' was their name. After another album ('Northern Lightz' 1996) following this EP, their label dropped them and subsequently killed the group.
    Pictures:
The sleeve of the EP vinyl, followed by pictures from hip hop magazines in 1994. First the British 'Hip Hop Connection' and lastly the German 'Backspin'. Tha Brigade got a following in Europe (specifically Germany, Netherlands and Switzerland).
It has been rumored that when touring these countries, they partied and connected with underground people there too much for the liking of their Dutch label. Which probably was behind them losing the contract.
