Deep and Dangerous: Exploring a Massive, Multilevel Abandoned Mine From the Bottom

  • Bottom to top. We began this abandoned mine exploration from the bottommost level of a multilevel mine. Jeff from OTG Exploring (‪@otgexploring‬ ) and I estimated that we were approximately 600 feet below the surface with five or six levels above us. How did we end up starting on the lowest level of this particular mine? We entered it by making our way through two adjacent mines that amazingly were all connected underground.
This video begins with us facing a large ladder that we immediately climbed to the next highest level where we began exploring endless drifts and large stopes. Along the way we crossed over a pit by using a rickety plank and climbed up into some stopes using dilapidated ladders. We found much fracturing and some stunning collapses that had snapped 12 inch support timbers like they were toothpicks. At one unusual junction in the mine, we were presented with a tunnel going downward and a tunnel going upward. We checked out both! We did manage to find another exit from the mine but were unable to use it because it was barricaded.
Check out Jeff's OTG Exploring channel at ‪@otgexploring‬ . He's got some great videos of abandoned mines going back a few years! Support another fellow abandoned mine explorer by subscribing to Jeff’s channel. I'd appreciate that and so would he. Thank you!

DID YOU MISS IT? Last month’s video titled “Unbelievable! We Found Underground Connections to Three Abandoned Mines” featured our exploration of the two abandoned mines that led us to the bottom of the mine seen in this video. Interesting how you enter into a mine and come across two more mines deeper in! A lot of stopes and stulls in this last area here. Thank you, Frank! As always, stay safe!!!

Thanks for checking out this latest video! Always nice hearing from you. Yes, Jeff and I were surprised that these three mines were all connected underground. This last mine in this video was a pretty big producer back in the day. I guess that explains all the stopes! Haha

I wonder who Mr. Bill was? Haha. We never know what we’re going to find in these abandoned mines. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment - I appreciate it.

As a fellow fella that no longer feels the breeze in his hair, do you wear a helmet often? People underestimate the padding hair offers from impact…and the cold…

I was going to ask you about the body cam footage. Sorry to hear it didn’t come out as you had hoped. Might take a couple more trial runs before you get it all figured out.

The mine looks deep with so many Twists and turns. Those ladders at the start are fascinating.

Yes, many twists and turns! That first ladder was very securely nailed in place, so we weren’t too worried about climbing that one. Some of the other ones, though - a little more sketchy.

Not sure why someone named that area the way they did. LOL We ended up not exploring that particular tunnel because when we looked in there it looked like it was pretty much vertical. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Thanks for checking in! It was unusual to basically start at the bottom of an abandoned mine and work our way upward to the top. That doesn’t happen too often!

Frank, I know I have suggested it a few times, but I highly recommend an infrared nightvision camera.
Imagine your batteries of your flash lights drain out.
Also a thermal camera would be very interesting.
I mean these devices are not that expensive.
Also these devices may increase the chances to see things which your normal camera cant see.

All excellent ideas! I’ll have to check into some of those. Hopefully, as you mentioned, they aren’t too expensive. Thanks for the suggestions!
