Thanx for the series, hurt myself during training and this has been very helpful in helping me temper myself for the process.

Thank you so much for posting these! I’m less than a week out from ORIF surgery (3 tibia breaks for the price of 1 trip down the stairs!), and I can’t tell you how helpful all your info has been to me. I’m over twice your age - and not an athlete - so seeing that you had many of the same challenges and uncertainties helped me to feel less “alone” in all this. You’re right about surgeons absolutely knowing their jobs, but it’s more than a little daunting once they send you home and you’re left to just figure it out. Because of your generosity and willingness to share what you went through and continue to work on, you’ve been more helpful than you know. Thank you. 💜

Getting this surgery next month. You are such a lifesaver! I've been told for 10 years I needed this, my last sprain I finally bit the bullet and went in for the MRI. I've watched all your videos thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos!

Your videos are so helpful! I had my left ankle repaired when I was 39 and my right done 6 weeks ago, at age 58. It’s weird how much better I’m recovering this time. Your equipment recommendations helped A TON! As a runner, I also attribute my quicker recovery to an excellent surgeon who focuses on sports and fitness. Definitely agree with you about doing your research and interviewing multiple surgeons.

Going to be having repair of deltoid and lateral ligaments soon due to long-term chronic instability causing foot/ankle pain from many sprains over the years. Hope you're doing well! Your videos have been super helpful. Have had stability surgeries on both shoulders, so been down this road before.

Hi Denali, I watched this video multiple times. I have ankle instability for 2 years now and the Brostrom surgery was recommended by the OP surgeon. As long as I don't use my ankle a lot, like no long walking no running, it doesn't bother me too much except for the occasional Ouch and "S*** I got to get this surgery done" feeling. Well, I am in my fifties, I think it is common sense that getting the surgery and the subsequent recovery process is worth the pain considering the long term returns.
It would be nice to hear your thoughts, just to boost my morale.

hey! so glad you are happy with getting the surgery in the end, as i've followed your whole journey and was so upset when you were regretting gate surgery earlier on. I am about halfway through recovery from the same op and am just bored but coping! I was wondering if you still strap your ankle when playing? I am a netballer and would always tape my ankle before playing so am wondering what I am going to do when I get back to playing.

    • @denalimarie939
      @denalimarie939  2 роки тому

I will/do still tape my ankle when I play but a bit less tape than before. I am focusing a lot of strengthening because I now have ligaments that will work so strengthening is definitely important right now but making sure I don’t sprain it while competing is also very important and you can never be sure if someone is going to take your ankle out in a game or training so I think it’s always better safe than sorry. Hope this helps and hope your recovery is going well

Thanks a million for doing these vids, Denali. You said it at the end for me regarding how hard it is to find info on recovery timeline after surgery. All I've really been hearing from the doctors is 6-8 weeks before I can put pressure on my foot 😕???. I've watch all your ankle videos at this point and its provided me with so much more than the doctors have. Now at least I have a better idea of what to expect. Watching your videos has enlightened me about what to really expect after surgery and love how you shared your day to day experiences and must haves, as well as, keeping things honest and not sugarcoating the experience. My surgery is in two days and at least now I can try to map out a game plan before I go in for surgery. Seeing you in earlier videos going in and out of surgery and then get back to training in the gym and playing on the soccer field was very inspiring for me. Hopefully I can bounce back like you. I wish you the best of luck on your continued journey to get back to 100%, as well. I'll be rooting for you 🙏💗

How is it you have all these joint issues? Do you have Ehlers Danolos syndrome? I have very similar issues and i have been told i have hypermobility(never yet been diagnosed with Ehlers) . I am 5 days out from this same procedure. I already had an ankle joint replacement on the other leg with deltoid ligament repair after a car accident.

I have issues with continuous ankle sprains and what you describe with no swelling is what happens to me when I sprain my ankles. I’ve gone to see a an orthopedic surgeon, but after XRays and a very awful experience with an MRI. The MRI showed a stress fracture, so I’m currently in a walking boot. Even though it shows a stress fracture I still feel that there’s something more, but I don’t know what to do.

    I am Peruvian.
I had a question, I went through the same thing as you almost identically in the process of ignoring these sprains.
Have you had instability in your ankle and weakness when kicking a ball, were you tired when running and did your heel hurt?
I have all that :( I'm having surgery this next week
Greetings, I await your response, I am subscribed..

I rolled my ankle last year while running and just had ankle surgery (lateral ligament reconstruction..) on Sept 22.. I'm starting phys.therapy next Friday, but have been walking (very carefully!) since about 2 weeks ago..And while it has been a tough journey, it is certainly doable.. I had regrets at first bc I had an infection at the incision site due to me accidentally getting it wet and one of the sutures I guess got infected so I had to be put on Levaquin for a week.. It was scary bc I thought it would get worse and that I could've just ruined my life by choosing to have surgery..but it is almost completely healed thank god.. I cant turn my foot in or out yet and the swelling is pretty much all gone but my ankle feels stiff and tight.. I'm going to drive myself to therapy since I have no one to take me so hopefully I don't have anyone pull out in front of me bc I wont really be able to slam on the brakes lol

@@carlosperalta6392 I had my ligament surgery on Sept. 23 but actually had to have irrigation and debridement in October from a staple that became infected (surgeon's fault).. I don't know if that made it worse but there must still be a lot of scar tissue.. I went to therapy and did a bunch of crap, and they also did Astym but I always got a different person and only one person knew how to do it well but I only had him maybe twice.. So I stopped going to therapy bc it was pretty much a waste in gas and money ..I really don't feel like its ever going to improve, it sucks but not much I can really do now..

I ended up going with a podiatrist that specializes in surgery. I did consult with an orthopedic as well, but felt more comfort with the success rate and reputation of the podiatrist with brostrom procedure specifically. I think it really depends on your comfort with the specialist.
