    I really miss my homers! Nice loft! I always went by the clean loft beliefs myself. I scraped and cleaned daily.

    I'm just starting into rollers I've 26 at the moment I love looking at your videos they are a great help, I've a loft but think a kit box is the way to go..

      Hi Joe thanks, If you can do it turn one side of the loft into kit boxes much better than these hanging outside in all weathers. I have not got the room to put up a loft here. I would have a set of kit boxes inside all sectioned off with an open walkway across the fronts and maybe a flight on the rear too so i could let individual kits out.

    That's a good tip to put the males in first to choose the box they want. I also put a divider in the box for a few days to separate the female from the male... so they don't fight as much when the divider is removed, as they will have pair bonded through the wire mesh.

    Absolutley right about small box breeding does bring about weakness. They need a continuing amount of exercise to keep their strength up. I have found that if they do have a way to fly them daily they can breed continually without any problems. For small box breederes this is a must to keep in mind to produce quaility birds. This is key for small box breederes: "quality over quanity is a must," Thanks for the pointers.

    I prefer to feed pellets and give my breeders as much as they will eat. The babies need as much food as possible. Makes the babies stronger.

    • @LozHarrop
      @LozHarrop  7 років тому +3

      yes your ok with pellets but with grains the birds get selective and throw the ones they dont want all over the box.

      ppotty1 So during these mating rituals they shouldn't have free access to food. Right now they all have 24 hour access to food. Thank you

    • @LozHarrop
      @LozHarrop  7 років тому

      It does not really matter but when breeding they should have food available but like i said they get selective and waste alot of it. I give a pair one of the pots a day about 5 spoon full of feed that way they tend to eat all of it.

    Hi nice video potty keep it up, can I ask wot kind of 'family of roller' u have (strain) are thy Deep roller?

    • @LozHarrop
      @LozHarrop  8 років тому

      Hi Rico, yes some of the birds are quite deep but as they get older they seem to control it more and shorten the depth. They are Birkett strain rollers.

    i got racers pigeon and they will not breed i wanna try to use the method at 5:40 but the problem is that i don't know between male and female if i put male and female together how long will it take for them to lay a egg and what is that method called at 5:40?

    • @LozHarrop
      @LozHarrop  8 років тому

      Your birds should breed its difficult to stop them, males are sometimes bigger than the hens they are also the ones you can hear in my videos they make all the noise constantly strutting around and arguing with other cocks. The hen will lay down for a cock like you see on this video, watch how he behaves when I put the hen in, your should behave the same. if he fights then its may be another cock you have put into the box, the cocks wont lay down for other cocks to mate with them.

      Early spring here in the UK, although some do start in January so the young birds are ready to fly in competition early in summer.

      My boxes are split in half with a divider, one half would be suitable for 8 birds so you only need to build one that size. Cheers.
