I totally agree with Sarah, the walking shots were super great! It's interesting that Sony delivers rainbow flair and character? Very modern (vintage) and very good I think. Thanks for the video.
@@LeeZavitzI almost always use lens hood on my lenses unless I am deliberately interested in flair effects (but then it is important the flair looks good)
I think it's a great move by them. Add some character and vibes at your own risk (shoot without the lens hood) or keep it simple and shoot same as before.
Your photos are as top-notch as ever, Lee! I’m seriously considering bringing the Nikon Z8 back into my lineup just to get that 85mm 1.2 S in my hands again. I parted ways with both to fund the GFX 100 II, wanting to try something new. But even with the 110mm, I can’t help but miss those fast-paced fashion shoots, capturing models on the move without missing a beat. Right now, I’m working with the A9 III paired with the 50mm 1.2 GM and the GFX100 II with the best GF lenses for portraits. Among all the 85mm lenses out there, across all systems, I still feel the Nikkor 85mm 1.2 stands out with its rendering-it’s not just about the 1.2 aperture, either. Every time I look at the shots I’ve taken with that lens, it brings tears of joy to my eyes-it’s that good 😂. That said, this GM lens looks pretty solid too and the autofocus now looks great for fast pace street portraits . I’ll see where I end up in the next few weeks. Black Friday’s the prime time for picking up new gear around here, so I might hold off until then. Thanks for the quick, high-quality video showing the lens in action-though I have to admit, the flare is a bit of a letdown. I sometimes like to add it myself, and I’m not sure if the included lens hood will completely eliminate it. Let's see if one one day you can compare this 85mm 1.4 GM to the Nikkor 85mm S 1.2 🙏😎 in a battle of the best 85mm out there (at the moment).
I am sort of cheap holding onto my Sigma DN Art 85mm F1.4 and ART 105mm F1.4. Sigma just came out their 85mm F1.4 two or three years earlier that was something Sony should have done.
You know Sony only came out with this so they can overshadow sigma’s fantastic dg dn, which blew the old gm model out of the water. So I’m sure they’ll be coming out with the 1.2 soon to then compete with Canon’s. The only positives I see with this over sigma’s is the slightly better autofocus (although sigma just came out with an update), the slightly better sharpness, and the slightly better flare control due to the type of glass coating they use. So it’s all just a slightly better version of sigma with a heavy gm price tag.
Yay!..Finally! my older 85 1.4 GM just gave out on me, work horse since 217..lol ..this is a much needed upgrade!...8 years wait is crazy..I dont mind the 1.4...but to nit pick Sony had 8 years to come out with a 1.2!!!..come on!! certainly no excuses for it haha ..im sorry but fine tuning bokeh and slightly sharper and obviously quicker AF..yes thats all good but why couldn't you put that towards the 1.2!!..lol Yes Sony says the analytics, sales and price point from the example of the 50mm 1.4/1.2 is most likely behind their reasoning, to answer the question of why they chose 85 1.4 II not a 1.2... but for some of us a 1.2 would be nice. I hope that they will still consider a 1.2 in the future..like the 50mm 1.2/1.4...releases..at least give people an option to choose..lol Yes I will pick one up!..but if Sigma releases a new 85 1.2..and Viltrox is about to release the 85 1.2 LAB lens then I might have to certainly rethink and compare these lenses later on..lol
Higher end lenses are always expensive from every brand. It’s worth it if you do it for a living. But they also have budget versions that are also great as well
Imagine Lee getting invited to some Sony event. He‘s having dinner with the other content creators and Sony employees. Everybody wearing suits. Then he leaves his table, walks straight to one of the Sony employees and whispers into his ear „I want the option to upload shutter sounds for my Sony camera. GIMME THAT HAWK TUAH!“
I literally explained why. The camera only goes to 1/4000 of a shutter in mechanical but can go to 1/8000 in electronic. If I’m shooting wide open on a bright day with no ND filter I have to use electronic shutter which is silent
Thank you. Glad to see someone shoot a real live talking person. I have the version 1 but will look to buy the new version with fast AF. Take care.
Thanks for watching

It’s very rare to see that in a GM lens. The lens hood would have eliminated that

I love the 110mm F2 for the Fuji and it stands tall even against the best 85mm full frame glass in IQ.
Surprised by flare, when not using a Lens Hood !
Love the pictures Lee! great vid!

I just love the 80 iso and 8000 shutter speed 😁

Which is sharper? SONY GM 85MM 1.4 II or SONY GM 135MM 1.8?
Awesome

''I'm just shooting everything at 1.4 for the haters.' 😂
I did it for them
smallrig baseplate makes a7c ii/r so much more comfortable
It’s the best setup. It looks great too
Song glass is crazy good. Just also expensive

Waiting for pixel 9 pro xl review
I wish I had one to make a review on
You should of had a partner with you to hold a reflector if you were going to shoot with her facing away from the sun. or an off camera flash.
Shot the entire thing in silent shutter. Why?
I literally explained why. The camera only goes to 1/4000 of a shutter in mechanical but can go to 1/8000 in electronic. If I’m shooting wide open on a bright day with no ND filter I have to use electronic shutter which is silent
@@LeeZavitz Sony added electronic shutter sound in A9 III and A1 or some such. Hope it will be a standard option for new releases.
Another new 85mm and it still doesn't rival the old Fuji 56's beautiful non-cateye bokeh balls, how hard can it be
I'll stick with my Siggy!
I will as well, I’m cheap and I already own it. In terms of image quality it’s not far off. Obviously the autofocus is better on the GMII
€2100?? gotta be an april fool, or a piss take or a canon rf lens money grab
